Can't load the CoolPix 990 on my Mac

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I just bought a CoolPix 990 (my first digital camera). Managed to make nice pictures and see them in the camera viewer. I then installed the Nikon View 3.0 on both Mac's I own. On the labtop PowerBook G3, the loading viewing and downloding of the camera pictures works perfect. On the other Mac, a desktop Power Macintosh G3 with system 8.5.1 I simply can't load the camera (I use a serial cable to the printer port). When I press on Mount Camera Now, the dialog box appears saying that the Mac is reading the information from the camera, and shows the progression of the reading. About half the way the Mac stops reading, and a notice appears on the sreen saying that this is an error -49, and cannot read the information. The camera switches off then. I have tried increasing the memory of the Nikon View application, and even tried to install the serial 2.1 update (which the Mac refused, because it is obsolote in this system). Unfortunatelly we don't a support office in Nikon here in Israel.

Any suggestions on what to do will be highly welcomed.

Many thanks, Ariel

Two problems I've had mounting Nikon cameras on Mac desktops; sounds like the first one is your problem: Mounting my 950 via serial, the serial cable had to be plugged into the modem port, not the printer port, unless it was an old system (7.1).

Mounting my 990 on a G4 via USB, I had to remove the USB drivers for the Sandisk flash card reader before I could mount the camera.
