What nonverbal thing---a song, a piece of art, a look from a lover---stirred you lately?

Non human, the sprouting, budding, flowering and leafing out of Spring. That zephyr wafting the humid smell of growth and optomism. Human, My wife touches my heart deeply. Others who show decent and caring natures and act accordingly do too. I have not kept a list but there are many who show their love for each other and willingness to help.

Artistically, Steve Schalchlin's music moves me. His song, "Save Me a Seat," about his own memorial service, is one that I've heard many, many times and yet the other day it touched a cord and I found tears streaming down my cheeks. The man has power to change lives.

I was also stirred on Sunday when I marched in the Gay Pride parade with the group from PFLAG. I'd heard about the cheers that accompanied this group, but hearing it first hand was mind-blowing. As someone who was afraid I would not be able to walk the parade route completely, I found that the emotions those cheers stirred in me carried me all the way to the end of the parade.

On a day to day basis, one of the AIDS clients I drive to doctors' appointments and other appointments never fails to inspire me. A 52 year old woman, recovering drug addict, with AIDS and colon cancer and yet a smile for everyone, thankfulness in her heart to God for sun, for air, for anything anybody does for her. The time I spend with her is some of my favorite of the week.

The photography of Catherine Jamieson leaves me speechless- every shot, whether it is a portrait, a landscape, plants breaking through the earth surface, or "bugs." tells a story of its own. Okay, I guess this is verbal- but her writing is absolutely potent also- a trip through her new site is guaranteed to to leave you with no answers but more questions than are comfortable.

My husband is an artist/photographer. In Indiana, we drove deep into the country looking for old Amish barns to take pictures of. We were quiet while looking, but my heart soared at his ability to see beauty.

The look in my little girls eyes when she is just looking at my face, searching it with no 'alterior motives'. She holds my face in both her hands and just looks all over it. Is she memorizing it? Does she see how much I love her? Does she see all the hopes and dreams I have for her? Does she see herself reflected in my eyes?

Musically, the only piece that I can recall that ever took me away with it is "Picture This" by Jim Brickman. It remains very special to me. The whole album is wonderful.
I've purchased one or two of his other albums, but I think this is the best of the lot to date.

This picture of Marshall Ball..my favorite author. It is his eyes that just draw me in...knowing the depth of his thoughts and words. I can't really explain..but this picture just speaks to me...

My niece. The way she smiled up at me, lifted her little arms and snuggled her sweet little head into my shoulder. The pure joy in her eyes when I hold her always brings a tear to my eye.

The last look my husband gave me on his way out the door, the look that wraps around me and lets me know how very much he loves me.

The song "A Long Time Ago" by Jim Croce. This song was written and recorded before I was born, by a man who died before I was born, yet it touches my soul every time I hear it.

Our wedding pictures. Just looking at them makes my heart beat, my soul sing, it's the day my life became complete.

James Nachway's book "Inferno" Definitely not for the faint of heart. It is an unflinching photographic account of the effects of war, famine, and poverty.
