A new name for this forum

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

It once was interesting and educational.....methinks it is now hitting "rock bottom".

It is S&M uncensored.

I have dropped by most every day for a couple of years but I now believe a weekly quick-check will suffice.

Best to one and all.

Answers

Any suggestions for a new name? Any point in discussing our "reason to be"?

-- (lars@indy.net), June 27, 2000.

I like S&M uncensored myself. Might bring a better class of poster in to the place.

-- Bingo1 (howe9@shentel.net), June 27, 2000.

You can thank the likes of Ceeper and Arrogant Andy for that. Anything they touch turns to shit.

-- (get@lost.scum), June 27, 2000.

Unfortunately, the name can't be changed on LUSENET. We went over this on TB I. [For the anal-retentive among you...yes it CAN be changed, but not unless Phil does it.]

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), June 27, 2000.

Hey SCUM,

The speed at which you all posted suggest that there are at most 2 of you. Good try. No sale.

If you are unhappy with Humble and Adorable MOI and The Andy Ray (one name each from the 2 biggest ASSHOLES Andy and Ray@toeJam.no-edu) then perhaps, I can arrange some of my more "technical friends" to show you the errors of your ways with enough posts to drown out all your REVISIONIST ATTEMPTS TO DENY RESPONSIBILITY FOR **MIS-LEADING INNOCENT AND NAIVE PEOPLE*** as North, Hyatt and Yourdon did for CASH.

IN SHORT ***SCUM*** : SWALLOW IT.

>> I can arrange some of my more "technical friends" to show you the errors of your ways with enough posts to drown out all your REVISIONIST ATTEMPTS TO DENY RESPONSIBILITY FOR **MIS-LEADING INNOCENT AND NAIVE PEOPLE*** as North, Hyatt and Yourdon did for CASH. <<

I admit it. I can't deny it longer. You caught me. I am responsible FOR **MIS-LEADING INNOCENT AND NAIVE PEOPLE***. Dozens of them. Maybe hundreds, or even thousands of them. I misled them all, except for the cash part. I can't remember that part any more. But, obviously, I am guilty, as cpr says.

So, I want to apologize:

I am sorry all you INNOCENT AND NAIVE PEOPLE I MISLEAD! Really sorry. You can't imagine how sorry. It was wrong of me to mislead you. You can all despise me now. I was wrong about Y2K.

Incidentally, cpr was right about Y2K, so you should not, under any circumstances despise him. That would be a big mistake. I would hate to mislead any innocent and naive people into thinking that cpr should be despised instead of me. That would be very wrong. Really.

-- Brian McLaughlin (brianm@ims.com), June 27, 2000.

cpr, I see that I have never thanked you in earnest for the hundreds, if not thousands of hours you spent telling everyone who would listen that you were right about Y2K, both before and after the non-event.

You could have chosen to let that cup pass from you. You could have hidden your light under a bushel. You could have spent fewer hours repeating your message of Y2K hope, writing things to post at Debunker's, repeating your message of Y2K hope, jousting with Gary North, calling Ed Yourdon a charlatan, disagreeing with the message of Y2K doom and gloom, and repeating your message of Y2K hope.

But you didn't. You gave it everything you had. You kept on repeating your message of Y2K hope to anyone who would listen. Even when they did not listen you kept it up. Even when they turned a deaf ear to you, called you names, spurned your message of Y2K hope and accused you of bad things. You kept on saying what you said through it all, right up to this day. Your message has stayed the same. It is a tribute to you.

If only the whole world had listened to you then and absorbed your message, maybe we wouldn't be in the mess we're in now. I thank you for trying to reach out to all the doomers who were wrong about Y2K, to turn them from their wrong path, to instill in them your message (the right message) about Y2K.

Thanks for being right about Y2K, cpr. We forever owe you a debt of gratitude. We can never thank you properly for all you did and tried to do.

Did I mention that you were right about Y2K, and I was wrong? That's the main thing, you know. We'll never forget you for it.

There now. If that doesn't turn the trick, Sadtosay, you're just going to have to thank cpr yourself, so I can watch and learn the right way to do it. (I fear I may have screwed it up, again.)

-- Bingo1 (howe9@shentel.net), June 27, 2000.

Gladtosay, surely we can all agree like gentlemen and ladies that cpr was right about Y2K.

In fact, cpr has a very long track record of being right about Y2K. That record only looks to be getting longer and longer all the time.

It seems safe to say that cpr will be right about y2K right up to the day he dies. And I, for one, will be cheerful to acknowedge that cpr died being right about Y2K, however long that day is from today.

I am glad that is finally settled.

Call it "" The CPR Rant Forum. ""

He is posting enugh miss information and BS to sink a ship of the size of the Titanic.

He must be bored maybe enugh people got pissed of about his mediocre business and service so it finally goes to hell.

Poor CPR... he will be homeless and beg on street-corners.

Until this happens i do propose the above mentioned ahh so fitting name.

Perhaps we should call it the People Who Keep Whining About How Bad This Forum Has Become And Create New Posts Just To Make Silly Idle Threats About Leaving The Forum Because They Are No Longer Entertained By What They Read Here And Are Too Lazy To Post Anything Of Their Own Forum.

Wait. . .add "Uncensored" to that.

Sometimes ya just can't paint a house to make it liveable, sometimes ya just gotta move.

We ditched the last shitty crowd, why is this so different? Plenty of people volunteered to open up a LUSENET forum last time.To tell ya the truth I wish OTFR would open up a new place and let this one go exactly where it is already headed......................................... (No offense Mr Poole but this format is comfy : )

Then again we are nomads aren't we?

The margarita buffett is now open!!!!!!

We ditched the last shitty crowd, why is this so different? Plenty of people volunteered to open up a LUSENET forum last time.To tell ya the truth I wish OTFR would open up a new place and let this one go exactly where it is already headed.

Why on Earth should OTFR or anyone have to open up a new forum, just because you don't like the people in this one? That's already been done, remember? It's called the EZ-Board. They didn't like LadyLogic, Y2KPro, Andy Ray, Flint, Hoffmeister, Latimer, Patricia, and any other "anthill kicker" so they ran away and created their own forum and blocked access so the scary people wouldn't post there.

If anyone creates a new forum, the people here will just move there. GI??? Unless, of course, you decide to lock out all the people you don't like, and then where would you be?

You'd be back on EZ-Board.

This place is called "Uncensored" for a reason, and it's more appropriate now than it ever was. LOL.

-- (hmm@hmm.hmm), June 27, 2000.

It would be kind of nice if CPR would let LadyLogic out from under his desk so she could post once in a while.

I actually kinda miss her, and she was more fun than the old goat CPR!

How about it CPR? Care to let her up for a breath of air? I'm sure she's tired of doing the Monica on you. And besides, what's the point? Unless you're sucking down Viagra...

hmmmmm,

I guess I like the people just fine,it's the record skipping and skipping and skipping that's irritating. And I don't think I'm the only one doomer/polly that thinks the same way.

So,if several people here decided to create a new forum called "the have a nice day cafe",you are threatening that you would follow and trash the place with with would obviously be off topic?

It is well established that I am not of the SLEZ ilk.

I will never and have never tried or implied to censor you or anyone else. How is moving an internet group to another BB an act of censorship? I call it turning a deaf ear!

The people you REALLY want to chatter to ARE allready on SLEZ!!!

-- capnfun (capnfun1@excite.com), June 27, 2000.

I guess I like the people just fine,it's the record skipping and skipping and skipping that's irritating. And I don't think I'm the only one doomer/polly that thinks the same way.

It shouldn't matter how many people think this way. The old TimeBomb was ruled by the majority. Their point of view was "I just find the pollys irritating and I don't think I'm the only person who thinks this way." And that's how it was run.

So,if several people here decided to create a new forum called "the have a nice day cafe",you are threatening that you would follow and trash the place with with would obviously be off topic?

I am not threatening anything. Cripes, man, put down the drink and go back and read what I wrote. You're reading Doomer Paranoid Fantasies into a simple statement. I said that the people here will move there whether you like it or not. It's not a threat, it's a fact.

If you want a place that's Uncensored, you sometimes have to put up with a lot of bullshit. That's the price you pay. We pay it with LL, we pay it with Andy Ray, and Heller, and CPR. If you want a place where everyone "had a nice day," that's fine, but it probably won't be Uncensored. And then you'd have to find ways to keep people out to make sure that everyone "had a nice day," wouldn't you?

And really, do you think that would be any fun, Capnfun?

It is well established that I am not of the SLEZ ilk.

I realize that, but what you're proposing is exactly of the SLEZ ilk. Perhaps you just don't see it.

I will never and have never tried or implied to censor you or anyone else. How is moving an internet group to another BB an act of censorship? I call it turning a deaf ear!

Where did I say it was an act of censorship? I said that it was exactly what has already been done by Yourdon and Co. with EZ-Board. They ran to another BB and locked the doors behind them, just as you appear to be proposing. Do you not see this? Or am I missing a difference between your idea and theirs?

The people you REALLY want to chatter to ARE allready on SLEZ!!!

Indeed. Who do I supposedly want to chatter with?

-- (hmm@hmm.hmm), June 28, 2000.

New forum name? What would really be kewl is if PhilG could put an additional "new answers" link above, specifically named, "new answers by Brian". You the man Brian!!!!cpr is too!!!

Save me a hell of alot of time, ya know having a link to Brian. Ya I know, he was wrong about y2k, but he clearly understands that cpr was right about y2k, and that's what matters.

Hmmm,

"Indeed. Who do I supposedly want to chatter with?"

If you read what I said it says "chatter to" not with and I am referring to the need to drill it into our heads how wrong we were, even though most of US were not the ones with the mega-doomer,die polly die, mantra.

When I speak of another board it means a non time bomb, non y2k BB.What is wrong with that?

I never proposed anyone lock the doors behind them, just set up a venue that is not y2k centered, such as the "Cheers" thread suggested. Why anyone would go to a general BB and rant about y2k seems questionable.

"If you want a place that's Uncensored, you sometimes have to put up with a lot of bullshit. That's the price you pay. We pay it with LL, we pay it with Andy Ray, and Heller, and CPR. I will agree for the most part with this statement Hmmm, with the exception that there would be no reason to lock anyone out,as y2k related subject matter would not be the thrust of that fora.If I wanted to mull over y2k I would go to the TIME BOMB.

You are absolutely correct that diversity does make for more FUN,and I guess there is a price for everything, just my 2".

If you read what I said it says "chatter to" not with and I am referring to the need to drill it into our heads how wrong we were, even though most of US were not the ones with the mega- doomer, die polly die, mantra.

I understand now. However, the problem is that the people that do want to keep bringing up Y2K are the very ones who aren't allowed to post over there.

When I speak of another board it means a non time bomb, non y2k BB.What is wrong with that?

Nothing at all. But you can have that without going anywhere. I never proposed anyone lock the doors behind them, just set up a venue that is not y2k centered, such as the "Cheers" thread suggested. Why anyone would go to a general BB and rant about y2k seems questionable.

The only thing that's really Y2K-centered here is the title. I really don't understand what the big deal is about the title. There's no law that says we can't just ignore it. We won't all spontaneously combust if we keep posting non-Y2K related stuff. Indeed, the "About" section of the forum states:

This forum is an attempt to recapture the free flowing discussions that used to take place on Ed Yourdon's original forum. Everyone is welcome to post. All that is asked is to refrain from spamming and use basic Netiquette.

Nothing about Y2K there at all. Heck, look at the EZ-Board forum. That place is actually called "TimeBomb 2000" and they specifically and intentionally avoid talking about Y2K! LOL.

I will agree for the most part with this statement Hmmm, with the exception that there would be no reason to lock anyone out,as y2k related subject matter would not be the thrust of that fora.If I wanted to mull over y2k I would go to the TIME BOMB.

As I said, I don't see any reason why the "thrust" of this forum need to be Y2K just because there's a "2K" in the title. We are mostly former posters or lurkers from "TimeBomb 2000" and, to me, that's all the title really reflects. Since it's Uncensored, there's no need to have a "thrust" to the forum. Some people will post endlessly about Y2K, other people will talk about their powdered butts, some will serve drinks, others will ask us to identify strange photos, some people still want to talk about "preps", a few will give us news (as opposed to "news" LOL), and you'll even get some philosophy too.

In truth, there's no reason you can't have it all here. You just need to use your imagination. Don't let a silly little forum title stop you.

You could change the name to something like "Hysterium 2," if you like - but I like the current name.

That,IS hillarious.(Wouldn' know,don't visit)

I suppose that in the end, this place is much like a TV guide,ya click on the shows that may appeal to you and the rest go by the wayside.

I would also bring this thought to the table; For a group of people who got y2k so right, how can they now be so one dimensional,to be so smart yet so narrowly minded in the aftermath.Being consumed with the past isn't logical and seems to go against the thinking "grain" of those who got it right.I would like to see what such minds have to say,on a myriad of topics.Just MHO.

I don't really have a huge desire to board hop,just my offhand thoughts.I can get along with anyone,Hell's fire I'm a Libertarian surrounded by Dem's and Repub's : |

Good volley Hmmm.

I would like to make it clear that I am in no way trying to impune the many that got it right,in fact, most and even the lead optimists now see y2k fading into the oblivion it is destined to become, for that I am impressed by Kens and Flints observations and impressions.

I'll still buy the 1st round of libations, who knows maybe the 2cnd and the 3rd!

Cap, that is a question, the ONLY question I would really like answered regarding you know who & you know who. Well stated.

Well, if you insist. But I don't think you're going to like the answer.

Way back when (this would be about a year ago), I distinctly remember Andy Ray saying that, upon rollover, he was going to create a website filled with various doomer quotes, threats, and wildly incorrect predictions. I recall him making this promise more than once, but unfortunately, I don't have any of the threads where he actually made them.

The purpose of his website, as I recall, would be as a "teaching tool" or some such for future generations. The hope was that, by recalling the past doomer predictions that never came to pass based on what he felt was completely incorrect analysis, we could possibly avoid such mistakes in the future.

Indeed, one look at EZ-Board demonstrates that some will simply never give up their expectations of doom. In a recent thread asking whether or not they believe Clinton will give up his power as President, the vast majority stated that they believe he will find a way to stay in power, regardless of the elections in November.

In point of fact, Andy Ray never did create that website. I looked forward to seeing it, but perhaps he changed his mind. In any case, it appears that his Quotably Quoted series is his substitute. He is posting quotes, and this forum is a website, so it pretty much qualifies.

Of course, keep in mind that when Andy made these "threats" way back when, those who didn't simply shout DELETE were quick to tell him how glad they would be to be wrong and read his "inane drivel" since at least it would mean that the infrastructure was in place and civilization didn't end.

So here we are, infrastructure and all. No dead pollies littering the streets. No need to shoot our neighbors. Plenty of food at the supermarket and lots of that freaky fiat money in the bank. And along comes Andy Ray, to tell the doomers how wrong they were.

Just as he'd promised.

You see, his plan wasn't to rehash the past, but to protect the future. Surely, you're familiar with the phrase about forgetting the past?

Now, you may find that reasoning to be about as sane as flapping your arms and trying to fly, but remember. . .

you did ask.

Hmm,

My big beef with AR was that he was preaching to the wrong audience, that the people he really needed to keep dumping his load on were on EZ. But then I saw a post or two from Rienzoo & a few others that suggest people really *do* lurk here from time to time.

Between him and cpr it does seem a bit like spamming though, other threads go down, down, down, when ahh who cares anyhow.

How true. How true. And, by being right about Y2K Andy Ray has earned every right to post as much "inane drivel" as he wants up until the moment he gets tired of posting "inane drivel". It's his call. Andy Ray can post as much "inane drivel" as he feels like and I won't complain. Nope. You won't hear the first word of complaint out of Brian McLaughlin when Andy Ray posts "inane drivel".

It is his right. He can go on as long as he wants. I endorse his endeavor to repost as much "inane drivel" as he can stand to post for as long as he gets satisfaction out of it. I, ofr one, am thankful for the electricity being on so this "inane drivel" can be accessed today and every day.

Let me shout from the rooftops and echo it from the highest hills... "Civilization continues apace. Andy Ray is posting inane drivel, and I'm glad to let him do it! Damned glad!"

It warms my heart to be able to say it on this electronic forum. Andy Ray, thanks for showing all of us that -- YES! -- we do still have electricity and we canread all the inane drivel you care to post! Even the drivel we wrote last year!

I thank you. Keep up the good work. It works for me.
