Boy Bands

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Xeney : One Thread

I am totally hooked on the abc show "The Making of the Band" - and I'm so out of the target audience. I'm almost 27 and my friend I watch it with is 29 and just had her first baby. But we were on the phone yesterday (me from work) discussing spoilers & the fact that they were on Regis & Kathie Lee! I felt like I was in middle school again....

And then last Sunday night on abc, the boys from MOTB were introducing the Sunday night movie which had the Timerberlake guy from N'Sync in it.... What a cutie! But he was born in like 1980!!!!

So, is anyone else as hooked as we are - to 'O-Town' (what a stupid name), or N'Sync or Back Street Boys.

Or Prince William for that matter.... I remember when he was born and I still think he's a cutie!

Oh hell no! Ack, boy bands are evil. I'm glad my kid listens to Korn and Marilyn Manson and not N'Sync and Back Street Boys. I pretty well hate that genre of music, though I must say that that Christina Aguilara person has a really great voice. I'd like to hear her doing R&B or Motown, though. I just don't care for that style of music.

Prince William is adorable. I'd have a huge crush on him if I were 16. I'm not, so I live vicariously through my daughter's dream that she will be the next queen of England.

mmmm boy bands. My friends and I love NSYNC and the BSB. We're all 20+. My reasoning is that when I was 15 I was too busy trying to be all edgy and into industrial music to appreciate the joy that is pop music. I'm compensating for it now :-)

There've been a couple of their songs I admit I liked, but generally I don't like boy bands. I just don't like the genre. I don't like do- wop or acapella either. I want rock to have guitars in it.

It doesnt' bother me if they were born in 1980, though.

RE: Prince William. We call all the covers of him that are around lately "Royal Porn."

I, for one, can't wait for Queen Britney Spears. Or Queen Alyssa Milano. It just doesn't have the same cachet as Grace Kelly, but I think it's just what the Royal Family needs.

"There will always be good looking boys with great haircuts in pop music", says Mick Jagger in a Stones documentary I bought ten years ago. While he says it, the viewer is treated to a collage of photographs from teenage heartthrobs from the 50's and 60's, like Frankie Avalon and Damian. Now this documentary was made well before the 90's onslaught of boybands, which just goes to show that this drivel has existed for ages and that very little has changed in the meantime. Sure, the sound is tailored to blend in with the flavor of the month, but in the end it's just the same kind of watered-down pop trash as always. Sometimes, when they get really successful, they even stick around, like Davy Jones, Cliff Richard or Donny Osmond.

Could somebody please pass me that sickbag?

Aside from 5ive and the occasional Backstreet Boys song, I'm not a big boy band fan. I prefer girl bands (Destiny's Child et al).

Prince William is very cute, and would you believe magazines like Tatler are already identifying prospective brides for him? Upper class 16 year old girls are getting touted as the possibles. Could be difficult, as the wife to the heir to the throne must be a virgin, and Upper class English girls usually live like complete slappers, from what I've known.

Having a preteen daughter in the house is my perfect excuse for listening to "boy bands!" Although they are frightful to look at, as one always looks like a primate, their singing abilities are not too shabby...I can sing along to N'Sync, Backstreet and our new Faves....2gether, from MTV! I am a 40 year old professional who can dance along to BYE BYE BYE with the tykes...

Brenna, my older sister is the same - she's got four daughters, the oldest one is 8, but she's only 27, and so can still enjoy Ricky Martin and co along with them all. She told me the other week that when the weather's grotty and she can't get outside to do some exercise, her and the girls just put on the Ricky Martin CD and all jump around in the living room instead!

I can't explain my fascination with boy bands. It's just so amazing to me how these poor unfortunates have been marketed into heartthrobs, when they are actually somewhat plain, to put things mildly. And their music is not my personal favorite genre either, but still I squeal and giggle and take over the remote whenever their videos come on. they're just so funny!

I can't even tell the difference between the bands (other than 98 Degrees having one less guy than usual) any more.

I loathe and despise both boybands (Backdoor Boys, In Sphincter)and teenslut bands, though Mandy Moore does majorly well for me in Lolita fantasies and will one day be majorly hot. I hate that the bands are all about doing these faux-hip-hop dance moves, which is one more nail in the coffin of the music video. Boybands and rap have ruined the world of the music video-- there's no room here for concepts, irony, film work. Think back-- Duran Duran was a band about pretty boys, but the lyrics were clever and the videos were brilliant. The current run of boybands exist as a cookie cutter profit centers carefully tailored to a demographic... There's no room for creativity, and their carefully blanded sexuality makes pre-teen girls feel safe (and makes elderly pedophiles drool).

Well... some times i like to say i don't like boy bands... you know around the hot boys, but i cannot LIE... almost every one know I LOVE ASHLEY PARKER ANGEL from O-town (in case you THINK its a stupid name its not it's where they are FROM)... If there wasn't any boys bands i wouldn't know and LOVE ashley ((hot name too)) i make graphics of him. And i spend alot of my time talking about him. People (like friends) say that i've "following the crowd" NOT SO, I really do like him... not in the fact that he's in o-town... but the fact that I LOVE HIM, i have a major crush on him... if i met him on the street ((before o-town)) i would fall in love to... I LOVE HIM AND I WANT THE WORLD TO KNOW I'M HIS NUMBER ONE FAN. Who cares if he makes sissy music... thats just what sells and at least he isn't talking about killing him self OR others... GET OVER IT BOY BANDS ARE HERE TO STAY... ever since the beatles.... so shut up and don't say "they suck" Just say... How long 'til the next boy band is out?!!!!!!
