from planet football AMBRUNO MOVING TO NEWCASTLE by Jamie Dixon

EXCLUSIVE CS MARITIMO midfielder 'Bruno' Marcelo Pereira Fernandes is set to join Newcastle this week, pending a medical, according to the Portuguese club's president Carlos Pereira. Pereira has revealed that the club have agreed a deal with The Magpies for the 25-year-old midfielder, and that Bruno will arrive at St James' Park early next month to discuss terms and undergo a medical, before completing the proposed transfer.

Bruno has also attracted attention from a number of clubs in Spain, but he is believed to be encouraged by the prospect of forming part of Bobby Robson's revolution at St James' Park.

Robson knows there are bargains to be found in the Portuguese league, following his time in management there with Sporting Lisbon and FC Porto.

Meanwhile, Argentinian target Daniel Cordone is still wanted by his club, Racing. Technical secretary Agustin Mario Cejas has confirmed that Racing would like both Cordone and Sixto Peralta to play for them next term, although both look likely to depart.

With Cordone, nicknamed 'Wolf', already travelling to Tyneside, Racing are resigned to losing their colourful attacker, and a successful medical would seal a year's loan deal worth around $750,000 - money that the Argentinian club are in need of, despite their wishes on the field.

'Wolf'??? That's a crap name. I suggest he seriously reconsiders his label unless he plans on wearing lycra bodysuits, ageing himself to 40+ and growling at the kids in the Family Enclosure...

And Bruno??? At least Beardsley will have someone to talk to next time he does panto :-)

Bruno deal imminent

Bobby Robson is set to complete the signing of Portugese midfielder Marcelo Pereira Fernandez within the next few days.

Robson set to seal deal CS Maritimo president Carlos Periera has revealed that a deal for the player, nicknamed 'Bruno', has been agreed with the fee believed to be approximately #2million. Fernandez has attracted interest from several Spanish clubs but is said to favour a move to England. Toon boss Robson has strong contacts in Portugal following his time as manager of FC Porto and Sporting Lisbon and seems to have put them to good effect.

Fernandez is expected to be on Tyneside this weekend to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical. If the 25-year-old is given the all clear, he is set to be the second midfielder signed by Bobby Robson this summer following the #4million signing of Argentine Christian Bassedas from Velez Sarsfield.

If we get Bruno and play him against the Makems on 18th November, and they play their new ankle biter (Tyson) - will Don King be brought it to promote the match?

We need to know
