It's my birthday ...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

tomorrow ... and I'll be spending it in the back of a van driving up to Scotland. No alcohol allowed until Friday evening when we should have finished the 3 Peaks event.

So... I'm off to top up with some beverages to celebrate my last day as a young 41 yr-old.

Quick weather check..... it's hot and sunny... that'll be the Thatchers cider I'll be drinking then!

I did this a couple of years ago Geordie, have you done it before?

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2000

Have a great one. Really jealous. Would much prefer to be doing something like that!

Cider? yeah .. many times! ;))

Been 42? Not yet!

3 Peaks, no. The team I'm going with did it last year. Looking forward to it a lot. A little worried about my fitness level but I should be OK. Target time is 20 hrs (including 11hrs fixed for driving).

Happy Birthday Geordie. Nice to see you're closing the gap on me!

Geordie, if you do 20 hours I'll eat my socks/shorts and owt else yer care to mention. The big time saver is if you can go up Sca Fell Pike via Wastwater side rather than from the other side (Borrowdale?. Most Charity events won't let you use it due to the traffic down that route. Our company had about three teams out this weekend so I assume it's the same. We did around 27 hours but hit V bad weather on Sca fell and Snowden, plus a mountain rescue incident on the latter. I doubt though whether we would have done it anyway. I also damaged my ankle of Ben Nevis but managed to finish.

The Very best of luck Geordie, I hope to be lunching on cotton mix come Monday, it's a fanastic experience. Stay safe, give 'em hell.

Hats off, bonny lad, TM

Happy Birthday for tomorrow Geordie! Have a great time!(:o)

Happy Birthday Geordie - enjoy yourself! The alcohol will taste even better at the end !

TM, Scafell Pike is from Wasdale Head.

Nevis is up and down in 4

Scafell up 2 down 1

Snowdon up 1:45 ... finish is at the top.

That's the plan anyway! The lads did in 23 last year taking 2 hrs to get down Scafell almost carrying a guy with a knackered ankle.

We have 2 drivers and six walkers so the drivers had bliddy well stay awake!!

Weather forecast is good. All the team have been training (except me as I knackered knee/achilles/calf... over the last few months). All bits working OK at the moment. I WILL do it!!

sounds about right then. Yep a little different to ours, we had to egt to a finish line a mile from the bottom of Snowden!

safe trip,

TM

Yep... We have to walk back down to Llanberis which is an extra 5 miles (1 1/2 hrs probably) but the actual time is taken at the final ascent. I'll let you know on Monday how we got on.

All the best, young'un. !! You're nowt but a lad.

Reckon you are quite incredible, people like you. A breed apart.

I love long walks but I don't do 'ups'. And I only do 'downs' when there is something else to take me back up again !!! (You probably don't know what I'm talking about !.)

Can only echo TM's great good wishes. Stay safe, give 'em hell and hats off to you, bonnie lad ! Happy Birthday !!!!!!

All the best Geordie both for the adventure and for the birthday.

Enjoy the climbs. I've done all 3 but never in the same year let alone the same day. You're a brave man.

Good Luck!

What a way to celebrate!

Good luck Geordie, I'm sure this will be a birthday you'll remember!!! But then again, with no alcohol, you'd remember any birthday!

Its sad b@st@rds like you that make me feel good sitting down and watching the telly;o) Safe in the knowledge that someone, somewhere is doing their bit and mine and several others bits as well!!!

Then again it is probably the exhuberance of youth that makes you do that.

All the best Geordie, do not do yourell any damage we all need you to run the selection comp next season!!!!
