Mystery Striker?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

From the Ronnie:

Robson is still in for a top quality European striker to give much needed support to Alan Shearer.

Discussions on his top secret move are progressing slowly but will continue this week.

I hope this is true but who is this man? (Not Bobby!!)

Dunno - wish I did. Where is YBR right now? Is he out in Holland/Belgium or watching videos at home?

Top European could cover a lot. Does it mean somebody from the continent or might it include the likes of Carl Cort? And by top do they mean an international or an up and coming? Gawd knows. The sooner the Euro-ban ends the better, Then we might know what's going on.

"Is he out in Holland/Belgium or watching videos at home?"

As Dougal will remind you, libel is a serious offence ;-)

Still hoping the Recoba rumour has some truth in it. Any other speculation ?

I'm still hoping it might be Luis Enrique, although they probably wouldn't describe him as a striker. Left-sided, versatile and class.

I heard it was Robbie Fowler. Oops, what have I just said?

From a taxi-driver no doubt, Screacher?

-- Anonymous, June 26, 2000

Screacher - go wait outside in the corridor until the headmaster comes. Now !

I heard it was a French Air Traffic Controller!

If he is at home watching video's.....do you think YKD and Rio boy will be in them?

Come on Ken,

haven't you got some whisper of who we're after?

Mind you, after you're "Makem defender to cross the water" rumour I suppose I shouldn't be asking. :o))

I haven't heard a dicky bird......everyone seems to be playing things very close to their chest at the moment.

BTW. I don't know what happened to the Helmer move,....it was supposed to be a done deal.

A wild guess - it might be Mpenza. (Don't check the date of this posting.)

Some of the Sunday rags confirm the Mpenza guess Barton - and suggest the fee will be payable in bits starting with #3.5 mill.
