Need recommendations for photo printing services.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I'm looking for recommendations for digital photo printing services. I've done some research online and would like to upload directly. However, it seems that most of the companies that do this will accept jpeg or lower resolution. Jpegs are fine for snapshots, but some of my work is art and should probably be printed from a tiff file. Anyone uploaded a tiff and got a print back of high quality? Any information on custom sizing with a printing service? Should I go to a more traditional lab? Thanks now for any advice I might receive later. C. Ripley

Does it have to be an on-line service? I have tried a local photo finishing service that can take TIF, BMP, JPG and several other formats. The output is incredible - I just have to bring them the pictures I want on CD or ZIP drive. Their prices compare to the on-line services as well. Scary huh?
Check your local camera stores and specialty photo finishers - I'll be you'd be surprized.

Some guys did an independant review of online photo processors. Maybe it'll help:

AT this time the site I happen to work for only accepts jpegs as well, but I have found that it is not necessarily the size of the file that would cause poor out put, but the resolution in which the picture is shot at. The site I work for is called dotPhoto. We can be found at www.dotphoto.com We differ from the other guys in the production process, in that we are using real photographic paper.etc ( but I don't want to give you a sales pitch, I'd rather you check us out your self. We are working on updates to the site all the time and we will soon have cropping options available for our customers. Hope this helps just a little.

Jen p.s. you can e-mail me at jen@dotphoto.com if there is anything I can do for you.
