Introduce yourself!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Shih-Tzu Talkshop : One Thread

How about a quick introduction from anyone who checks out this site.

So far, I have only contacted the people I know, but I`m sure there will be new friends to be made on here. I`ll start:

I`m Roz Sears, a pretty small time breeder/exhibitor. My breeder`s affix is `Tsunami`. Six Shih-Tzu at home, and two cats. Love the breed, both sides of the Atlantic. Have visited several of the American Shih-Tzu Club Specialties, and can highly recommend them - great fun! I have just been voted on the the World Liason Committee of the American Shih-Tzu Club, and will be happy to answer any question you may have about it. I am also an agent for Galaxy Products - Californian coat-care products.

Welcome Pat! (:o)

It is so satisfying when someone new joins the party. I hope you will enjoy this forum, and look forward to your contributions.

As for nervous dogs - I sympathise! I had a delightful bitch puppy ruined for the ring when someone slammed a coolbox lid down so hard it made me jump let alone the puppy, who I had just that second lifted off the table to do our triangle. What infuriated me more was the fact that it was the ring steward who did it! I ask you!

Hi Roz, We are Jim and Kathy Culverhouse (Lykath). We have been showing Shih Tzus now for 5 years and have 4 at present. We have been showing dogs for 30+ years, starting with German Shepherds, Bearded Collies and a Shetland Sheepdog. We both wish we had started with Shih Tzus - they are delightful. 3 of ours were bred by Glenda Gilkes (Zeeva) and our black/white girl was bred by Georgina Moston. Bye for now, Jim and Kathy

Excellent! We have lift off!

I know this is going to be a little bit slow, just until we get a few regular contributors, but I`m sure it could become a very interesting discussion group. I was beginning to wonder if there would be any takers! (:o)

It`s actually 11.30 pm. I`ve just got in from the theatre, so I`m not very with it. I will have a longer chat tomorrow!(:o)

-- Anonymous, June 26, 2000

The only problem I am having with this set up is that I can`t understand why my postings are being put at the top, and not added to the bottom in sequence. However, carry on regardless!(:o)

Just experimenting!

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2000

Ah-ha! I`ve cracked it! If I use my daughter`s e mail address, my postings arrive in sequence. Good!(:o)

Hi my name is Fay Buchanan and my affix is Nachubans. I have had Shih Tzus for around fifteen years. I showed regularly until about four/five years ago. I have not shown since because of ill health, but have still kept a keen interest in the breed. Over the years I have owned and bred a few very nice dogs which mainly go back to the old Greenmoss lines. At present I have six Shih Tzus gold & white, solid gold and black & white. I also have two American Cockers - Buff & Black & Tan. One Parrot and my husband Ian. I am a long standing member of the Northern Counties Shih Tzu Club and Northern Counties American Cocker Club.

Hi , another person with Shih Tzu and American Cockers (don;t they get on well together!!) My name is Stephanie Walsh from Sligo in the west of Ireland and, along with my mother and occasionally my sister we have been showing Cockers & Americans for approx 18 years. I added Shih Tzus about 7 years ago, after a very long wait to get what I wanted, and now have a g/w champion dog that I got from Denise williams (Paliden) and a black champion bitch and her black daughter. At present I am also showing , for a friend, a g/w daughter of my dog. We have 1 buff American dog (also a CH) his black/tan daughter, two r/w bitches (mother and daughter) and a b/w bitch. Also two elderly cockers - tri and orange, and a mad Tibetan spaniel and an even worse veteran standard poodle!! We are involved with all levels of shows here in Ireland and on various committees of breed clubs and general clubs. I am hopefully going the the Canadian shih tzu specialty this year, along with a few friends, and I can;t wait!!!!! I love the breed and am looking forward to exchanging ideas etc. in the future

"response to introduce yourself!" from Stephanie Walsh

Hi Stephanie,

My Shiddies and Americans are fantastic together. In fact they seem to encourage each other into misbehaving. I got my black and tan dog from Mike Gadsby - Afterglow whose sire was Sh Ch.'Bodulf Pistols at Dawn with afterglow' my buff bitch was bought from Sheila Blackwell-Goulding sire SH CH Mygillies Red Hot'n Blue at Cosalto and Am,Can Ch Larmaros Robashan Jennifer with Mygillie.(she was a silver wedding present from my husband.) We originally were going to have a five day holiday in your part of the world but I plumped for a 'Yank'. My original shiddies are mainly Greenmoss. Through the years this has been diluted as I have been trying to breed that 'perfect dog'. What a statement! If only huh!! I would dearly love to breed a nice solid black bitch, but as it is in the lap of the Gods they seem to play tricks with me and I have only managed black dogs so far. Never mind theres always next time....

Welcome Stephanie!!

As you can see, we are a bit thin on the ground with contributors at the moment, but it is VERY early days, and I just mailed everyone in the UK that I could think of today!

So you are hoping to go to the Canadian Specialty? I am toying with the idea myself. Isabelle Beaulne is one of my very best Shih-Tzu friends over there! Did you go to the ASTC Specialty? I missed this year`s, and it left a BIG hole in my calendar!(:o)

Off to bed now! Been trimming my veterans tonight - and they weren`t very co-operative!

-- Anonymous, July 05, 2000

Hi Fay!

Two new contributors in one evening - brilliant. You realise that you, Stephanie, Brenda and the Culverhouses are now founder members of the Shih-Tzu Talkshop - how `bout that!

Feel free to pass the password on to interested parties - the more the merrier.

The number of people in the UK who are on line (in Shih-Tzu`s that is) seems to be increasing daily. I keep checking Sue Thatcher`s list - and it`s definately growing. I`m hoping we will be able to persuade some of the people overseas to contribute, I know some wonderful people who could really brighten up anyone`s day!(:o)

-- Anonymous, July 05, 2000

BTW Fay, I have a secret desire to own a particular parrot which I see every time I visit PetSmart in Christchurch! He`s wonderful, and we are very definately on speaking terms!! Husband, however, does not share my enthusiasm, but I`m working on it!!!(:o)

-- Anonymous, July 05, 2000

BTW Fay, I have a secret desire to own a parrot

If you ever seriously think of owning a parrot dont make the same mistake I did. Although they are so tempting in pet shops be patient. Treat it as though you were going to buy a puppy. Go direct to a breeder. There are loads of weekly and monthly papers and mags all about birds. When you do go to a breeder make sufe it is hand reared (not just hand fed... You will soon feel the difference, believe me) Never consider buying one that is over 14 weeks as by that time they are there own masters and terrible to train. Parrots do treat their favourite human as a boy/girlfriend so make sure you buy the opposit sex to yourself. If you want to know anything else I may be able to help you by relating my mistakes. Done wisely they are superb companions and extremely clever and entertaining even if they do say the wrong thing in the middle of a 'phone conversation. Good luck.

-- Anonymous, July 06, 2000

Thanks for the warning and the advice Fay! It is really just a passing fancy - I feel that our home is congested enough with animals as it is! Maybe when I am an older lady I will indulge that particular yen - but I shall bear your words in mind!(:o)

Hi - as a member of other Shih Tzu discussion groups I will be interested to see how this one goes with more UK contributors. I serve on the committee of The Shih Tzu Club and have owned the breed for 11-12 years showing for 10 of them. I have from the beginning shown my own breeding affix Redhall making up a male Ch. Redhall Harvey Moon a couple of years ago, he was in my second litter - I also have two Hashanah bred Shih Tzu - presently showing Hashanah Another Level for Redhall, Redhall Trade Secret, Redhall With One Look and Redhall Faith in the Future. These have a base in Greenmoss lines although some of it a generation or two back.

-- Anonymous, July 13, 2000

Hi Gloria! And welcome!

I also post on another US generated noticeboard. It is proving quite hard work to get a good UK involvement going - partly I think because there are fewer people on-line, but the numbers are slowly increasing! Spread the word, and the password! I am mailing a few more people outside the UK today, and we`ll see where it goes from there.

Looking forward to hearing your opinions!(:o)

Hi from a german Shih Tzu fancier. My name is Elisabeth and I own Shih Tzu since 9 years and have 5 at the moment. I started showing my first Shih Tzu when she was 7 month old and still enjoy showing and since 6 years breeding. My kennel name is "Mandarin Gardens". Thank you for letting me know the passwort. Very interesting to read the sites.

-- Anonymous, July 31, 2000

Hi Elisabeth - and welcome. I had the pleasure of meeting Elisabeth at Crufts. Elisabeth has the litter sister to the little red and white bitch that I am showing at the minute. I look forward to learning something about the German show scene. I have lots of questions to ask you! (:o)

-- Anonymous, July 31, 2000

Hi,go a head and ask. Maybe somebody is interested in the show system of germany. (Which seems much more easy to me then yours) But hopefully you do not mind my mistakes in writing.

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

Hello Elizabeth. I wonder if you know Brigitte Huch and if you are entered at the show she is running, Pat Lord from England is the judge. I e-mail Brigitte occasionally and met her at Crufts, we contribute to an American based Shih Tzu handlers list. I show my dogs and have made up a Champion Dog, my affix is Redhall. Hope to hear more about your dogs and showing in Germany.

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

Your English is very good Elisabeth - so there is no need for you to worry about that! I shall start a new thread about the show scene in different countries.(:o)

-- Anonymous, August 02, 2000

Gloria - is that One-list.com that you subscribe to? I know Stephanie Walsh and Yvonne Cannon from Ireland subcribe to that one, as do I. They sound like a great bunch on there, and in fact Molly is a dear friend of mine, but I do find that one a wee bit bland.(:o)

-- Anonymous, August 02, 2000

Hello Gloria, yes I know Brigitte Huch very well. She is organizing the show at the 6 of August where Pat Lord is the judge. I will be there and let you know how it was.

-- Anonymous, August 03, 2000

Gloria - how about you sending Brigitte the password for the this BBS? It`s always nice to be invited by someone you know!(:o)

-- Anonymous, August 03, 2000

Since you said people from overseas are welcome. I decided to join in the fun. I have been exhibiting Shih Tzu in America since 1983 and have been fortunate to have Best in Specialty Show winners, Group winners. and many American champions. Our shows, points etc, are different and it's very interesting to learn how Championships are achieved in other countries. I will read and I'm sure enjoy this forum.

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2000

Patricia - Wecome aboard! How great to have our first posting from the US of A! As you can see, it is very early days yet, but already there have been some very interest discussions beginning. Would you be so kind as to describe the American system for us? I will ask a question to start it off.

Also, please feel free to pass on the information and password to anyone you feel may be interested. (:o)

Hello and Welcome Brigitte! Another new addition to our happy band. I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts and opinions. Hope you enjoy joining in! (:o)

-- Anonymous, August 16, 2000

Brigitte, by the way, I am sure we must have met a one of the Specialties. Were you in New Jersey? (:o)

-- Anonymous, August 16, 2000

Yes i was at the Nationals in New Jeresy with my husband and my friend of South Africa Wendy Watts(Shihzam). This national was one which i wipe out of my memory as it hold sad memories for me personally.I was most of the time with Luke and his wife and a couple of others and a couple from Italy. If i remember strong,we all are introduced at the diner bankquet. Are you going next year to Florida? As i said i miss it this year as i was not ready to go.I usually enjoy nationals with all the flair.By the way welcome on board of the World Liason Commitee.I start to ask around for people in different countries to write about the shih tzu in their country.Sweden and Finnland started and now i set my hope's for netherland, what about the different parts in the UK.

-- Anonymous, August 17, 2000

You are correct Brigitte - I believe we were introduced. I also remember you having to leave that particular National early due to very sad circumstances.

I shall most definately be attending the Florida National! I too missed last year`s - and it left a big hole in my social calendar!(:o)

-- Anonymous, August 17, 2000

Hi Brigitte welcome to another Shih Tzu list!!! good to talk to you again...... For the other members of this list - Brigitte seems to be one of the busiest peple I have ever met!! How did your club show go? What are you getting ready for now? Or should I say how many other shows are you getting ready for? Stephanie

-- Anonymous, August 21, 2000

Stephanie! Howdy! Okay let's start it this way.I soon ready to start my new business (that was topsecret),celebrate and organisze my husbands birthday yesterday with 35 people.Went to the Expo to travel around the world in one day.LOL.Oops forget to mention groomed all my dogs.Hurray. Went to the goverment as we are working to do something against the Kampfhund problem. There are several dogs on the list that is not fair.I have no idear if you have hear that breeding Bull Terrier and some others is forbidden in germany since the 1.7.00.Not easy for the breeders to handle the situation.Ooh,and in between this is just show my shih tzu abit for sample at Elisabeths show and went Best Bitch ,BOB ,BIS with Skunny(Phildore Stolen Memories) and her son the Allmighty Buddha went V2.he is still not matured enough for open. If than some time is left i write on the list.but not much on the shih tzu list.So Stephanie you are now up to date.Wrong i will be out the next weekend to another show. And i plan to show in some other countries,if time is left.Probably Amsterdam.

-- Anonymous, August 22, 2000

Brigitte - you sound like a veritable whirlwind of activity!(:o)

-- Anonymous, August 22, 2000

I can't sit and wait what happend.LOL. Live to short to stay at one place.

-- Anonymous, August 22, 2000

Brigitte - my vet gave me a paper to read the other day that the Staffie people (I think it is - haven't had time to read it fully yet) have published on the problem that you are having with the breeding of the Bull Terrier breeds. The danger is that in time these kind of regulations could pass to other breeds that might be considered a problem, obviously you cannot have breeds that are a danger to people, but unfortunately as so often happens the innocent get dragged into matters as well.

-- Anonymous, August 22, 2000

Gloria ! The Am.Staffs are forbidden to bred and own. Those who live here had to pass a Wesentest(behaviortest). If they did not make this positive they went to shelter and will be put down. The Miniature Bull Terrier are not on the list.Bull Terrier are on the debanning list. Finally last statement is that they can be bred, but only if the breeder breed commercial like a business. The can't be sold to people in country.

Hi, Im Pat Ritchie, I Have been showing my shih tzu for almost 7 years now, I have had dogs all my life and my mother used to breed pembrokshire corgi's I currently have 4 shih tzu and a bearded collie, and show under the Laurmerand affix. I have 2 boys i have bred myself, their mother was sired by Ch. Greenmoss Praise bee. She is a solid Black and absolutely gorgeous. She didnt like the show ring, Her first son Dream Maker is a solid Gold sired by Ch Santosha Red October and whilst initially he did quite well in the show ring he became ring shy after a fright at a show and never holds on to any weight and really prefers to be left at home. My current show dog is a black and white sired by Camglia Heaeaus Highlight, and at the moment hes one little tough cookie he's scared of nothing, unfortunately because of the foot and mouth outbreak he missed most of his puppy classes, but is doing quite well in junior classes, lets hope it continues. His name is By Design perhaps you have seen him, if not, dont worry you will >G< coz i shall be back lol. Pat
