Valencia target versatile Domi By Bob Cass From Soccernet

Beaten European Cup finalists Valencia are ready to pounce for Newcastle United's former French Under-21 player Didier Domi.

The Spanish outfit have offered #4.5million for Domi, more than #1m more than former St James' Park boss Ruud Gullit paid Paris St-Germain for him 18 months ago.

Current Newcastle manager Bobby Robson, who is attempting to build a transfer kitty to finance his own buying, is likely to allow Domi to leave Tyneside, but only if Valencia increase their bid.

Domi, 22, has proved a useful member of Newcastle's first-team squad, with his effectiveness both as an orthodox left back and left-sided midfield player.

NNNOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooo!

Is any one else questioning whether Bobby has any money in his transfer kitty at all? All this talk about Bobby having to sell before he can buy.

O.K. so there might be a supposed hand-shake embargo on euro transfers while euro 2000 is on, but that shouldn't local or non-european players being looked at.

Domi's a player we need to keep, although it's apparent we do not have a lot of cash (or more likely we can't continue financing the salaries of such a big squad) makes you think how much the rebuilding & SOS is costing us in terms of the team.

we can't be that badly off if we have turned down #5 mill for Gary Speed (aged 30). Remember when we sold Sir Les for #6mill, reputedly behind Dalglish's back?

It looks like the Board are finally in tune with the needs of the manager when it comes to selling players.
