Having had a major psychological disorder (D.I.D.) and been treated by a psychologist, I can only tell you how he treated me.

He taught me many things about the psyche and how it operates. He taught me about ego states. He used hypnosis to calm and cope. He used much of Carl Jung's methods with a little bit of cognitive thrown in. In my opinion, he used nearly every method of psychology around because different methods were better in different situations. Logic worked at times. At other times, simply being there worked. He used dream analysis and he used humanistic unconditional regard. He had been a therapist for about 25 years and he claimed he needed and used all of his experience and training.

Maybe this is not the answer you were looking for but I hope it helps
