Film Scanners

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I am on the point of wanting to buy a film scanner and have probably chosen the LS2000. First any comments on this, have i chosen wisely.

Secondly, I've just noticed that one supplier has dropped the price some 10 percent. As usual anyone heard of any thing about a new and better model on its way from Nikon.

The Nikon LS-2000 was the best home scanner around......up to now. Read the new review on the Minolta Dimage Scan Elite. It is on imaging-resource. When reading between the lines I think they like the Minolta better than the Nikon. What do you think? It's also cheaper.

Fine scanner but don't discount the Epson Expression 1600 series. I just took delivery and it is GREAT! It will scan four 4x5 negs or chromes as well as medium format and 35. I have been using the HP PhotoSmart (another fine unit) but don't get the "newton ring" problem with the EPSON. 1600x3200 DPI, 36 bit and FAST. Base SE model about $800-$900 and $300 for the transparency unit. I read directly into PhotoShop 5.5 Upgrades have more software, like PhotoShop LE. Check it out. Any others have experience with this unit?

The LS2000 is great if money's no object, but IMHO it's well overpriced. Check out Steve Hoffman's review of the HP S20 which gives you a chance to see it up against the LS2000. Personally I prefer some of the HP scans. Then there's the Acer 2720s, reviewed p.l.andrews@bham.ac.uk), June 26, 2000.

......Then there's the Acer 2720s reviewed here.

Apologies for that hiccup.
