DSC-D770 vs F505v 3.3m

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I'm struggling between these two choices. I heard that the D770 is going to be discontinued which is why I'm reluctant to buy it. Sony came out with their upgrade on the f505, which is now the 505v. It has 3.3m over the 770 which is 1.5 I, however, really like the design of the 770. Is there another camera like the 770 with a higher resolution or is the 770 still ok. How about the new 505v?

I too hope Sony comes out with a replacement for the 770. 1.5 MP just doesn't cut it any more - but this camera was well designed and produced excellent results. One advantage is that you can get them now for well under $1000 US Dollars.
The current equivelent for it is in the Mavica line. Two models are the FD-95 (whcih I can't recommend for anyone doing any action photography - but is otherwise a very very nice camera) and the yet- to-be-released CD1000. The CD1000 is the same as the 95 (so it looks like it'll be a dog for action photography too) except that it records images on a 77mm CD.

Maybe - just maybe Sony will replace the 770 with an 880 CD model - here's to wishin'!

Why would it matter if the 770 got discontinued? Just wondering how that has anything to do with the camera itself. I've been trying to get a Nikon 990 for a few weeks now. No one has it in stock for a reasonable price. After looking at a few 770 reviews again, I think I'm swayed towards the Sony again. I like the manual focus and zoom rings, faster shot to shot times, info lithium battery system, histogram in record mode, great zoom range (can save $100 from not buying the nikon wide adapter), super f-stop range, option to use low cost memory sticks ($90 for 64MB), high shutter speed of 1/2000, big LCD, TTL viewfinder.... I've been keeping a list of my favorite features. If only Nikon would make something like this, but it appears the quality of the Sony isn't up to Nikon's standards.

I figure that, if I haven't made an 11x14 in years, why get a 3megapixel if the 1.5MP sony has more useful features? I'm probably only gonna make up to 7" prints and the Sony will do just fine for that.

About the comment on the "880." The removable storage media cameras are the Mavicas. The Cybershots will probably always be card based.
