Apricot poodle personality

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Poodle Support Group : One Thread

We had seen an Apricot toy in Pet Blitz, Montego Bay Center, Ocean City, Md. I had never seen a poodle this color and thought it beautiful. We have 3 children and have allergies so we had decided on a poodle. I special ordered an apricot female toy a week ago and then 2 people have told me that Apricot's are "skittish" and don't have good personalities. The store owner says there is no personality difference among the colors and that the Apricot's that are not show bred are fine. She doesn't think poodles are best for kids but recommends bichon. We would prefer a poodle. Should we proceed with the Apricot or order a toy white? The store owner thinks males are less skittish but we have heard females are less allergenic (our biggest concern). We appreciate any opinions. Many thanks.. Many thanks. Trish Vogel North Potomac, Md.

Hi Trish, Please, please run as fast as you can AWAY from Pet Blitz in Ocean City. These puppies come from questionable resources and checking the health of previous generations is impossible (an important step in dog ownership). There are many breeders in Maryland and surrounding states which can sell you a quality, health tested puppy. You will pay less in the long run. Buying a puppy from a reputable breeder will entitle you to a lifetime of help for your dog. Check out the Washington Poodle Club on the internet to find a breeder in your area. Also, join us on the PSG list for regular poodle discussions. You might ask for a puppy on our list and get some good connections. Good luck.

hi Tricia we have had poodles(toys) for 20 years, they are great dogs.white black and apricot. One poodle we had became jealous of my daughters baby and we had to find him a new home. However generally they are ok.You will wonder how you ever lived without one.I suffer from hayfever and these dogs are no problem in that way.Hope this is some use. hi,its true that females are more active and wild then males.i have an apricot toy poodle(male).he is no problem at all. My friend though has a female(apricot too),she is wild!she also likes to bite.My dog doesnt bite and never did, even when it was a puppy.incase your dog starts to bite furnature or people give it one of those little fake dog bones, they work!poodles do not shed, and if u are alergic to the fur,i dont think u should be worried.(poodles are extreamly smart!)
