Sales or use tax on new and used vehicles.

Here is another idea to provide needed revenue for highway construction and maintenance. Why not earmark the sales tax on new and used vehicles for this purpose instead of having it all go into the general fund as it does now? I'm not sure how much money this would bring in, perhaps someone could provide an answer.

A new initiative, perhaps?

It is my understanding that the legislature already does this, to some extent. For example, I believe some of the money for ferries comes from the sales tax generated by sales of automobiles to people living in Kitsap County. So, if the government expects $10 million in such sales taxes from Kitsap County, then they dedicate $1 million to the ferries.
