Young star rejected Magpies

West Ham United's young superstar Michael Carrick has revealed that he turned down the chance to join his home town club Newcastle. Carrick decided not to begin his career in the North East and opted for Upton Park as a teenager.

Carrick has been widely tipped for greatness by pundits and has represented the England under-18 side. He spent the majority of last season on loan at First Division Birmingham City before breaking into the West Ham first team in the run in to the season.

Carrick says he now feels at home in London and is not considering moving back to Newcastle in the near future.
