If the Pacers had won the series, we would have had hayrides, square dancing and group sing-alongs. (I love the part in Old McDonald's Farm where there is an oink-oink here and an oink-oink there). Jim Nabors would sing "Back Home in Indiana" and David Letterman would do a guest appearance bagging groceries at Atlas Market. Sure, they'd be a few bad boys drinkin corn likker behind the barns but we'd put them to work detassling corn. (no fun).

Hello to anyone who may remember me. I spent a lot of time on greenspun a while back.

Quick thoughts regarding Los Angeles. I'm about 15 miles or so from Staples. I was born and raised in the basin. I had flashbacks last night I did not expect after the Lakers won. What stupid people those idiots were/are.

This is a perfect example of what an awful, shameful, few can do to rip headlines and focus away from what should have been a nice victory. Even Shaq had his SUV "disturbed" by the crowd who rocked it, etc.

Los Angeles is a county of almost TEN MILLION yet only a few hundred were responsible for what happened and it was all confined to within the area near Staples. Some actually decided to drive down to the area AFTER they saw the activity in the T.V. coverage so they could participate.

After what happened in Seattle recently I think the county is very worried about the DNC and the LAPD and other law enforcement did a great job last night in providing a professional and balanced response.

Even so, it's really only a matter of time before my city explodes again under far more disturbing circumstances with more destructive results. With the DNC coming and "anarchists" chomping at the bit for a repeat performace of the Seattle riots I think I feel a vacation is due.

The parade is tomorrow. Crowd "control" should be very interesting. These are the kind of times that make me very happy I spent time on Greenspun, learned many lessons and made certain investments for the sake of safety, etc.

I pray that tomorrow will be joyous and what ever the future brings will be bright. And remember that over 9 million people in Los Angeles stayed calm, cool and collected and celebrated responsibly.

My best to all.

Mike

"Civil unrest"??

Naah, this is clearly just a good-natured break from their normal activities, drive-by shootings and car-jackings. They were obviously in a good mood since they didn't kill anyone.

I take that back. Well, they only killed one person, so clearly they were in a much better mood than usual. Maybe the refs should let the Lakers win every game? :-)

another day in paradise

The article said,

Huntington Park Police Sgt. Ron Beason said. ``I don't know that anyone was necessarily shouting, 'Go Lakers' as they pulled the trigger, but they were, I guess, celebrating as this happened.''

You have to be pretty used to the harsh points of your job to get that cynical, and I for one am thankful that there are people out there who want to do it.

One Cheer here for the cops who have to put up with this crap.
