Problems using memory stick

Does this sound like my memory stick has been wasted? I just purchased a Sony D770, love it, works great. While waiting on larger compact flash I've been testing shots on the supplied 8meg memory stick, transfering images to PC with supplied pc card reader. First thing that I noticed is no images are available to view on camera after card has been read in card reader. Camera shows no images but not all memory is available. After a few shots my memory card is full. Reading on pc I see garbage files on the card. I've made sure that plenty of time has passed since accessing and no light flashing before removing card from reader or camera. For awhile I could recover by initing card in camera but now both camera and pc think memory stick is write protected. I've changed from write enabled to protected and back but no change. Is it toast?

Bob: Most likely your memory stick is already corrupted (not toasted), just reformat and start all over again.
