For Pentax users--Pentax LX 2000

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

This is not a question, but something that may be of interest to enthusiasts of Pentax cameras, especially the LX. On p. 136 of the quarterly Japanese magazine, Classic Camera No. 8, there is an announcement about the Pentax LX 2000 camera, a limited production version of the classic LX. It's finished in chrome rather than black and comes with a SMC Pentax-A f/1.2 Special lens. It's probably meant for the Japanese market, and from what I can figure out, orders will be taken in August and delivery begins in October.

If you read Japanese, here it is: LX 2000

If they plan to continue having some influence in the 35mm market, Pentax really should consider releasing a modern top-line camera in the class of F-100 and EOS-3.

Chuck is right. It would even be sensible for Pentax to abandon their SLR system completely and to specialise in what their doing right: Medium Format and point and shoot cameras. I don't see any reason anymore to invest in a new Pentax SLR (35mm)system.

I think that Pentax should merely merge its activities with Nikon ! Both companies have a great tradition in optical activities as well as 'classical' SLR cameras (i.e cameras being capable of functioning without battery). I have a dream: a combination of Nikon FM3A & Pentax LX2000 ! For what concerns the lenses Pentax should in such a scenario produce its major ones (for example 15 mm) with the Nikon bayonet. Nikon & Pentax could even think of producing a full line of non-AF lenses with integrated CPU. I would appreciate an answer from Pentax / Nikon representatives ! -- Gilbert Vissio
