Superb comments from Keegan after the game on Al's behalf...I'm sure they'll be in the papers tomorrow. Lineker's reaction in the studio to Al's goal was brilliant!

Shearer answered the critics the best way possible - by putting the round thing in the back of the net.

For those of us in the hinterlands - what was Lineker's reaction to Big Al's goal?

right up Mellor and Littletjohns ass Proud. Ten e-mails from the bahamas already if shearer wants a second home he should think about abaco

Great match - great result - brilliant goal. Took me all the way back to a wonderful day in 1966...

Also very nice to hear the name of SHEARER being chanted here in the streets of Islington.

Lineker was going mental in the studio, Southpaw. :-) I also liked his "Yes!" to close out the broadcast.

Did anyone see ITV's build up to the game? Lynam interviewed Keegan and each time the criticisms agains Keegan or the team were brought up, Keegan happened to have an itch which he scratched with his middle finger. Coincidental? ;-) I'm a little bummed that Setanta switched over to BBC cause I wanted to hear Bobby's comments. Oh well.

So pleased for KK - he's such a nice bloke.
So utterly thrilled for Wor Alan - such a great player for so many years; so mercilessly and unfairly hammered by unthinking, unknowledgable morons when his powers dip to 95% of his peak; yet he gives so much for Club and Country. I just don't understand it - the man is a genuine hero.

yeah!!!!!!!!!!

Isn't it such a lovely feeling that it's only about 20 hours since we beat the Jormans. And that OUR captain, a Geordie, made that piece of history. It was nice that the other players rushed to celevrate with him. According to Holt, the truth is that the rest of the team hate him... Looks like it.

I was SO interested to see what arch-critic Hugh McIlvanney would say about AS's goal, and performance, against the Gormans. Well like all gutless cowards do he simply ducked the issue -
"After the week he has had, it was fitting that David Beckham should contribute substantially to the decisive goal. His free-kick from deep on the right slipped through several bodies near the six-yard line before it bounced conveniently for Shearer's header."

So, credit all around to DAVID Beckham for his part, but no credit whatsoever - even when it's due - to SHEARER, the man who just happened to put the ball into the net enabling England to win the game, eh Hugh? TOSSER, 1st Class!!!

According to Holt, the truth is that the rest of the team hate him... Looks like it.

You mean you thought they were congratulating him in that mob? Actually they were trying to suffocate him cause they all hate him for denying YMO his rightful goal. Probably. BTW, Dougal, did you see Shearer's interview on BBC today? All smiles, watched the game again when he got back to the hotel and didn't get to bed until 5am. Great to see him looking so happy. He's relishing sticking it to any media he can find today! Perhaps he should send McIl-tosser a big bouquet of flowers and a smarmy note thanking him for all his support. ;-))

Jonno, The Esteemed Jonno, Nah that was a imposter above, must be LR stirring the sh--e, great result agree, great match , shades of 66!!!, get a pass out from Islington my son, you have been compromised, abort the South, return north, Softie will show you the escape route, your football brain has become befuddled, If you require an op on your return, so be it, auction your SJH shirt and book in private. Is the Buff becoming a cynical old fart I ask?, No way the reply, stick to your guns Bill, the game was crap, Ingerland are u/s,more enjoyment at the 10th time of watching was Billy Connelly, these guys cannot play football, Im sorry.

After seeing the tape of the game. Great goal by Shearer. Shit game over all. Can't waite for World Cup 2006 when all the present EPL youngsters will make Ingerlund squad. Before 2006, they'll slowly be brough in as the present buggers retire.

After watching footage of the riots, I now know why you all type Ingerlund.

From soccerage the following is quite amusing:

Alan Shearer has received a major boost from a fellow team mate who feels that he is capable of winning the Golden Boot in Euro 2000.

Kevin Phillips has yet to get a chance in the opening two games for England, but says that despite all the knocks he gets from so called fans wanting him out of the team he'll go on to prove them wrong.

"I said before the tournament that it would not surprise me if Alan went on to finish as top scorer," said Phillips. England are one point away from a mouthwatering quarter final against Italy and Phillips feels that Shearer is still the right man for the job.

"There's a rivalry between us, it does exist and there's no point denying it. But England without Shearer at the moment would be like a football stadium without a crowd," says Phillips, "Before the Portugal game I was the same as the other members in the squad in hoping that Alan would be fit to play."

With the England captain retiring from international football after Euro 2000, Phillips knows how vital he is to the team, adding, "He proved his worth to us against the Germans and I feel he can go out of international football with a bang."
