Crippled passenger jet lands safely in Montreal

A Canadian Airlines plane carrying 49 passengers made a safe emergency landing in Montreal Friday afternoon.

The pilot requested permission for an emergency landing at Dorval Airport after one of the jet's six tires blew out taking off in Quebec City.

The pilot circled over the airport, using up excess fuel before attempting the emergency landing.

The airport's longest runway was cleared. Six ambulances waited nearby, and other emergency crews were also on alert.

"We're expecting the worst but we're hoping everything will work out," airport spokesperson Marie-Andree Bastien told Canadian Press before the pilot brought the plane down safely.

The plane, a Fokker-28, left Quebec City at 9:20 a.m. (EDT) headed for Toronto.

Passengers were put on other flights to continue their journey. No one was injured.

While the above occurrance appears to have nothing to do with computers, the other incident in B.C. (Kelowna?) where a jet experienced sudden depressurization while airborne bears more scrutiny. Reported by WIC tv in their early evening newscast, but I can find no mention of it in the usual places online. Maybe tomorrow.
