Breaking News: Radio Shack Plans a lunar mission for 2003. As Dave Barry says, I am not making this up!

06/15/2000 By Victor Godinez / The Dallas Morning News

Fort Worth-based RadioShack Corp. said today that it is partnering with a small Virginia-based space exploration start-up to put a robotic rover on the moon in 2003 sporting the RadioShack logo.

I wondered what private eneterprises would be first to capitalize on the high interest in space exploration and the ability of the Interenet to provide the public an "inside" view of mission data and photographs, video, etc. (Nasa, JPL, etc. have done well with this).

Looks like its gonna be Radio Shack.

Come in Earth, come in, RS Rover 1 here....

I will keep you informed of this breaking news event.

I can already picture the day when we look up at the moon and see a glowing Nike Swoosh. The moon as one giant advertising billboard, what a concept.

Mr. McDonald said,

"I personally would love to do something in the realm of live advertising from outer space or the moon."

What a nutcase. If he had the chance to go to the moon the first thing he'd want to do is use it as a venue to sell gizmos? I know that company loyalty is a good thing, but dang, get a dream.

I have these images of astronauts eventually wearing space suits looking like what NASCAR drivers wear and the moon buggy having decals all over it.
