Jespar Gronjkaer

Can some one who is going to watch the Holland v denmark game keep an eye on the lad. He'll be on the left wing. As it stands he's about the only Left Winger left in the comp. who isn't at a major club (O.K. Ajax is a major selling club) and hasn't got transfer speculation swirling around him.

Saw him against France, Tre. Although he has received some favourable comment on here, I thought Thuram had him in his pocket from start to finish. Having said that, Thuram is arguably the best RB in the World right now, so the kid could still be a good 'un.

Tre,
I thought the kid had a very good game tonight v Holland. He gave Reisiger a really tough time during the 1st half, but was switched to the right for some entirely inexplicable reason. He wasn't so effective on the right but did OK. However, with Gronjkaer on the other wing, Reisiger was able to get forward far more and caused the Danes problems.
Gronjkaer's fast and tricky, but doesn't always use the ball well.

Well I decided to forego sleep and sensibilty, and decided to head to the casino after work on friday night to watch Denmark take on the mighty Dutch.

The foregoing sleep part was that I forgot the game didn't start unti 4.45am, however I only finished work half an hour before the France game and had the pleasure of watching the euro 2000 winners beat the Chzecks.

The foregoing sensibilty was that I decided to stay for the Dane/Dutch game when I had to start work at 10am, and was still drinking at 7.00 am. God bless casino's.

Anyway to the man in question. I thought Gronkjaer had a good first half, the Danes continually went with him down the left for the first 20 minutes or so. He showed some surprising speed as I had been informed he was a bit slow but extreemly skillful. I can not recall him putting over to many crosses, but this is mainly due to alcohol induced memory loss.

He showed a willingness to take his man on at every opportunity, and for the most part succeded, but often was closed down, or did not have a team mate to pass to. He got back and defended often and well. He often went looking for the ball, which saw him pop up in the centre of the pitch and put in some little jinking runs before laying the ball off. Apart from when he was closed down on the touch line, he almost always completed a succesful pass. For someone who is right footed, Gronkjaer has a very good left foot, and uses it well.

As Clarky said, for some explicable reason Gronkjaer was switched to the right wing in the second half, and wasn't nearly as effective. He was not involved in the match for great lengths of time. That said mutch of the play in the second half went down the other wing or through the middle.

Also as Clarky mentioned, Gronkjaer did not always use the ball well. Some times I felt that was due to his team mates not making them selves available, which left him Isolated, this included no support what so ever from the full back. I also felt that in the first half he often stayed on his wing and tried to beat his man down the line instead of cutting infield which would have been a better option. However when he was out on the right wing he often came infield looking for the ball, as he wasn't getting it to start with.

I can see why no one has tried for him yet. as he isn't the finished article. But at 22 he's better than anything we've got to offer on the left wing and I'm sure Bobby could really polish him up. Also with Domi in support, we'd have one hell of a fast left wing, capable of really opening defenses up. I'd rate some where around the 3-4 million mark. (not that I can judge talent).
