Missing pets?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Till Human Voices Wake Us... : One Thread

Have you ever lost a pet? Did it run away, get lost, die...? How did you resolve it? If the pet was lost and never came back, when did you decide to give up hope? Or did you?

I'd love to hear your stories, happy or sad.

yep...several, actually

the first was my mom's horrible cat Satan. (yes, my mom really did have an all black cat named Satan). He ran away and got hit by a car. I was six or seven, I think. I wasn't too upset. Satan hated me. In my kindergarden picture, I have a long cat scratch across one cheek...

the other was my dad'd dog Cinnamon. A bench-legged beagle that slipped her collar and ran away when we went to see Return of the Jedi. She was crushed by a car. I was a little more upset about that episode, but not a lot. That wasn't my dog.

Ugly Face was definately my cat, tho. (okay, so I'm just as bad with names as my mom... but my one-eyed tom cat was pretty dern ugly. when I got him, he'd just had his eye clawed out and it was all nasty and infected...) He didn't run away, he collased one day from a bad case of urinary tract infection. We found him a few days later, lying in a drainage ditch. He was still alive, and we got him to the vet, but he died a day later from complications from the urinary tract infection.

I miss him, even now.

My current cat, Bear, is 19 years old.

My other cat, Sandi is 9 years old.

oh, Lisa you know I have. I lost my beloved Tucker, never to be found again. I actually still hold out hope on that one though. I don't know why, he escaped through the back door while ex was bbq-ing and never came back. Don't feel like a bad owner, just don't - you had no way of knowing that he would fall out the window. Think good kitty thoughts, he'll come home..
