Solution for Left midfield

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Ok so far in this tornament we have seen a number of of left wingers that various people have liked. Well I haven't seen any of them except for on the SBS sports news highlights.

So lets all keep tabs on them and decide who we would like to see in a toon top most of all come the end of the tornament. A pre-requisite for watching left wingers is that they are likely to be available to the toon and not be contracted to a major European team, or deemed out of our price range.

So far we have:

(A) Bart Goor (Belgium) - linked to us through teamtwaddle, and is supposedly a converted striker. Pacey and has an eye for goal. (well naturally being a converted striker).

(B) Jespar Gronkjaer (Denmark) - Supposed to be Denmarks top young prospects re; "1. Name: Jesper Grxnkjfr Current Club: Ajax Amsterdam (Hol) Date of Birth: 12/08/1977 Position: Attacking Midfielder Previous Clubs: AaB Aalborg (Den) Comments: Even though Grxnkjfr already has 4 caps, he is still the countrys brightest hope for the future. His direct style and the fact that he can play at both the right and left side made him a first team regular last season at Ajax. Has started this season with a foot injury but is expected to be back soon, and ready to make an impact as one of the most creative players at both the Danish national team and at Ajax Amsterdam. "

Two knocks against Gronkjaer in relation to the toon that I have read from various sitesare, one that he lacks true pace but makes up for it with skill and vission, and secondly Ajax are going to want a 'lot' of money for him when they sell the lad.

(C) Karic (Slovenia) - Impressed a couple of the BBS locals who watched the Slovenia/Yugoslavia match. But a couple of comments of concern also;

from Screacher "Karic looked impressive in the 1st half, and Lawrenson reckoned some EPL manager would buy him on that performance alone (at half time). 2nd half he disappeared and was subbed. The sub (one of only a few not "....vic" players looked to bring some solifity back into the Slovenians. Back to Karic. Hmm, a bit too close to Maric for me. But I agree about his left foot crossing - Bex in the mirror. "

from our man on the ground in Ljubljana, Dan 2 " Karic had the game of his life. He's better known here for getting booked all the time. "

And my personnal crusade/ah choice who isn't at euro 2000 Wlfred Bouma (PSV Eindhoven) - well I let some other people give their impressions here;

Wilfred Bouma (Holland) Date of Birth: 15/06/1978 Position: LDMA Representative Honours: Holland U-21 Previous Clubs: PSV, MVV, Fortuna Sittard

Nominated by: Jim Reijers Location: Waalre Comments: Wilfred 'Fredje' Bouma has recently fought his way into PSV's first squad as a left back or left midfielder, although he prefers to play in a more attacking role. He took his opportunity when European topscorer Ruud van Nistelrooij was hit by injury and the very next game he played upfront, he scored both PSV's goals against FC Utrecht. Bouma is a fast, intelligent player with a powerful left foot, which he isn't afraid to use for a scorching free kick.

Nominated by: Tom Irving Location: London, England Comments: An outstanding little player that has created a large proportion of the goals for the infamous Ruud Van Nistelrooy. Powerful for his size.

Nominated by: Lennaert Klerk Location: Rhenen, Netherlands Comments: He can play at so many positions. He took the place of Van Nistelrooy so greatly in last match against FC Utrecht.

And just to continue annoying you all with my new found skill of cut and pasting ;-), and for those who are interested in the young lad we were linked with earlier in the season;

Paul Powell (England) Date of Birth: 30/06/1978 Club: Oxford United Position: LB Representative Honours: U21 intl. Previous Clubs: ? Nominated by: Mike Flynn Location: Oxford, England Comments: Paul Powell has great pace and is probably the quickest player in the division if not one of the quickest in England. Great watching him against wingers who rely on their pace when they try to take him on. He is constantly being linked with Premiership clubs, mainly Derby County. I would value Paul around the #1m mark.

Any relation to Daryl?

I stick by Karic. He looked out of condition admitedly by 65 mins, but fitness comes with being in a decent professional outfit. Bobby would sort out his booking bother. Goor looked terrible yesterday, despite tons of possession.
