hello follow chivu friends,

There is a discussion going on about Chris and his model girlfriend miss Raicu. I have got some Romanian newpapers dated on the 1/2 -01- 2003. There are printed some pictures of them together. So i think they are a item. Miss Raicu also said in on national Romanian television that they are a item for two years now on an off. So i think if he's happy that's the better he preform on the pitch and that's afcourse the most important thing in the world for me. Any friends can always replay on my emailadress i love to hear from you, also i have a double matrial off him like pictures, articles from magazines, and video. Ajax is my favorite club! Anyone who would like to swap is very welcome. Love to hear from you all. And my famous last words are CHRIS ALL LOVE TO YOU, STAY AS YOU ARE BECAUSE THAT MAKE YOU THE WAY YOU ARE!

Love your biggest dutch fan Marietta(ps see you tommorrow at the practice if i don't bothered you enough already last saterday hahahaha!) xxx

hello everyone! I am so happy that other romanian players want to join Ajax. Ovidiu and Vlad are great players.. I've seen them play in our championship. I only hope that they stay at Ajax. As for Cristi, I hope this season brings him a lot of success! He is one of the best Europian players. And another thing, I would really like him to take care of himself and not get injured! C'ya all!

Go to interview form on Ajax.nl now.

It's unbelieveble how prosport newspaper writes about Cristian's 'love stories'. Poor guy! Everyone keeps interfering into his personal life. His private life is his private life!

-- Anonymous, January 10, 2003

Nice interview! I am glad you are not thinking to leave Ajax, Cristi! Good luck! I am glad you are happy. Keep it that way! Kiss you sweet. LOLI

Hey folks - check the Ajax USA homepage! There's a very interesting Chivu quote of the week waiting to be read. Very nice for Ajax fans...

Sorry...but i disagree with you...

I like Cristian Chivu..because he is an incredible football player..and because he is the MAN at ajax..

It's just lovely to hear that Cristian has a girlfriend..

-- Anonymous, January 06, 2003

Loli, I agree that Hagi and Chivu played on different positions. I was talking about mentality. Guys! Come on! Would you leave Cristi's private life alone? It seems that he is not with Andreea anymore and he has another girlfriend. These are pure speculations. Nobody knows exactly what is going on in his love life and it is non of our business! Only his health and playing ability should concern us! Take care all & C'ya!

-- Anonymous, January 06, 2003

for Christina di Ciello: la Raicu e' uno schianto! :)

-- Anonymous, January 06, 2003

For the ones who are interested: apparently Cristian Chivu is dating Andreea Raicu, a 25-year old, dark-haired Romenian model. In 1995 she participated in the Elite-model-of-the-year competition (she didn't win but was voted for 'Best Elegance')and later she presented on television. She also posed for Playboy. I believe she is quite known in Romenia. Go for it Cristian !!!

-- Anonymous, January 05, 2003

He loli,

I went to that site...haha..but it's in romanian...and i can't read that ...so is it's possible you can translate it a little??? Please...please..please.... =)

Lots of love CC

Happy New Year, Cristian! I`ll answer some questions...If you want to read something nice, new about Cristi, look on www.prosport.ro, the newspaper from 23 december 2002. There are 3 pages where Cristi says his opinion about football, national team and admit he is in love!!! I find it normal that Cristi has a girlfriend. I don`t know why Barbara Stoiu explains this! It`s a bad news for some of you, but yoi should be glad that Cristi is feeling great. If he is happy, we shoul be too. Congratulations once again Cristi and hope you had a good time on Christmas and on New Year Evening! :)) Good luck this year and hope you win all that you can! I know you are ambitious and you can! Take care! Kiss you sweet. LOLI

-- Anonymous, January 04, 2003

Barbara Stoiu said another thing...that Chivu is better than Hagi... You can`t compare them because they have different position in the field. Hagi played 25 years football and he retired, but Chivu is at the beginning. Chivu will be better than Hagi over the time. Chivu had the great chance to arrive at Ajax from Universitatea Craiova, but Hagi played at Sportul Studentesc, Steaua and then he arrived at Real Madrid, Fc Barcelona, Brescia, Galatasaray. Chivu was really lucky!!! I don`t wanna be misunderstood... Chivu is a young player, very talented, modest and very ambitious...he already has a great future... big football clubs want him and he will play there one day... sooner or later... even if you want to stay at Ajax forever! I see him high, becoming one of the biggest football player... Time will pass and will see what happens... Hagi... it`s hard to talk, i don`t wanna miss something...he was a great football player and i admire him for all that he done. He brought us joy,he made us going out and we exulted at the victory of national team...great moments... Hope you will understand me, if you really love football... Chivu admires Hagi very much. Last year he got 2 titles from Hagi: The Best Football Player in Holland and in Romania. If Chivu reads this, I know he will agree with me. Am i right, Cristi?! What do you say about this?! Kiss you sweet. LOLI

-- Anonymous, January 04, 2003

Come on guys! Everybody wrote about Chivu winning the trophy for the best Romanian player of 2002 with the exception of Ajax Usa!! ....

HAPPY NEW YEAR CRISTIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-- Anonymous, December 31, 2002

He's got a girlfriend...Big deal! I have no idea why the media and others make such a big deal out of it! It is natural for him to have a girlfirend, ain't it?! Cristi, congratulations for winning the price for best romanian player. I knew that this would happen! You ARE the best player. You are better than Hagi. Why? Because your determination level is a lot higher! And there are other reasons too, but it would take a while for meto write them down! HAPPY NEW YEAR! Take care! C'ya!

-- Anonymous, December 30, 2002

He has a girlfriend? Since when? I never read it before. Although, it could be true.

-- Anonymous, December 28, 2002

Hey,

Is he in love?? That's great news...Loli can we find that interview somewhere on the internet?? If not...could you tell me what the interview was about...please...

Merry christmas to everybody and a very happy 2003!

Hi again! I saw the message that gives great advices to Cris, some of them are rather rough. I hope that Cris reads it and listens to it. I wrote messages like that when he had his first bad injuries, but he didn't listen to me. I trully hope that he does now. he has changed indeed, in both ways. I can see that his devotion and determination has grown, but sometimes he overreacts. Even so, I hope that the fans will always be with him and will always support him, nomatter what he does. I heard that because a new injury he won't be able to participate in the match from Madrid. Sorry for that... Take care! C'ya!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2002

CHIVU...READ THIS PLEASE! Cris, you are a great player. Better than the other Ajax players and you're one of the best players in Romania. But there's a HUGE PROBLEM in your style of playing! YOU PLAY LIKE A SUICIDE. However dangerous a situation is, it's not a problem for you. You're running...and the next moment your face is covered with blood. You get a bandage and you're running again, as if nothing had happened. Later, during the same game, you throw yourself into a terrible action again and you're dashed against the goal-post, which is made of iron. These are only two examples but there are many more and it all is getting worse and worse. You don't take care of yourself at all. You want to play even if you're injured. Keep in mind that if you continue playing like that, you will have a VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT once and the consequence will be that you won't be able to play football anymore (or worse). Just think of what happend to your father, or C. Neamtu. OK, there were different reasons, but in your case there is much more possibility to suffer some terrible accident! You say you want to be as good as your father was. In many people's opinion you're better now, BUT think of his style of playing. Yours is much rougher. He could solve the problems without doing such terrible things. Remember that solving such situations in a dangerous way is not the fact what makes you so great. Cris, maybe you don't like listening to fan's compliments, but belive, this is the truth, without exaggeration. YOU DON'T TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AT ALL! Besides the most important thing (that you expose yourself to danger) your style of playing is becoming ugly. Belive that it's not what I think. It's what everyone thinks who sees clearly what you do and how you do it. And those people are worried about you. Cris, please believe that I didn't want to hurt you. I am one of your big fans and I love you very much. And I'm very much worried about you. PLEASE think of all what I wrote and devote care to yourself. If you don't want to do it for yourself, do it for others who love you and whom you love - for your family, friends and fans - who are all worried about you.

-- Anonymous, December 17, 2002

Cristi, good luck with your recovery. May you recover quickly and stay injury-free for as long as possible. Also, may your Holidays be wonderful.

Sarbatori fericite :)

-- Anonymous, December 16, 2002

I have one request. Please write the messages in english. Thank you.

-- Anonymous, December 07, 2002

Guys!!! Hold on for a second! I saw Cristi Chivu on TV last night and he said that he was only invited to watch a game in Madrid! It was not about him leaving Ajax. He would be only a guest! Cris said nobody had spoken to him about his transfer, so until someone speaks to him he would stay at his actual team. Besides, he will leave eventualy, 'cause this is the life of a soccer player! Cris, take care! C'ya!

-- Anonymous, December 05, 2002

I think Cristian Chivu is a great and excellent player!! What a pitty that he`ll leave Ajax at the end of the season. I guess there is no substition for him, but I´ve heard that Frank de Boer from FC Barcelona is going to rejoin Ajax soon (I also read his qoute on this site where he said that it would be a pleasure for him to return to Ajax as soon as possible It just would be great if Frank became an Ajacied again!!! Does someone know about this transfer? Is it realistic or possible. What´s your opinion??

Ajax rulez!! I´m looking forward for an answer, thanks

-- Anonymous, December 03, 2002

Ajax have triumphed over adversity all year.It now looks like their stiffest challenge to date is on the horizon. First, Cristian is suspended, for card accumulation, from the December 7 league and December 10 CL matches. To add injury to insult;it now appears he is out 2 to 3 weeks due to a torn thigh muscle. This would mean he is certain to miss the big clash v. PSV on the 15th of December. In fact, UEFA.com goes so far as to say he is out until the new year. THE CAPTAIN really has shitty luck!Get well soon Cristian!

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2002

Mayde everyone knows already but i read this morning in the french sports newspaper L'equipe that Christian Chivu has found a definitive agreement with Real Madrid (where he will replace Fernando Hierro) for a transfer on july 2003. The transfer will be about 20 M€ (the good thing is that it will sort of fill the hole in the treasury). Good luck to him in this crap club.....

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2002

Sorry that you hurted yesterday. Hope to be all right and to play on 7 december in the Netherlands Championship. You will play against Real Madrid, in the team of AllStars on 12 december! You are honoured to take part at this game, i`m sure. Good luck and hope to hear only good news about you and about your healthy! Take care! Kiss you sweet! Loli P.S. Because i often write on this forum, i want to say something for the ones who read this page. Cristi Chivu is reading this page, but don`t expect to answer you back. So what if you write for long time here, Barbara? If you had read carefully, you would have seen answers to your questions. Do you want a price to offer you for visiting this page?! Forgive me...

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2002

Some of you seem really surprized, that Cris cannot play against AS Roma. That's because he gained three yellow cards in the Champions League and these are the rules. However he will play in the other matches. And another thing...he injured himself in the game against Valencia...Cris, I hope you're all right and that it is not serious. Take care of yourself! You hear me? And something else...I have been writing here for quite a while and I still don't know if Cris is readin these messages. Does he? I hope so...C'ya all!

Cris...you hear what they say .....you have to STAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

-- Anonymous, December 01, 2002

Congratulation for the victory! I`m really sorry you won`t play with As Roma, but hope that Ajax will win for YOU!!! Take care! Kiss you sweet! Loli P.S. Menno, i`ll answer you personal.

-- Anonymous, December 01, 2002

Christian, PLZZZZ stay at ajax next season, you're the most important player of ajax, and without you we won't have any defense

-- Anonymous, December 01, 2002

Chivu won't play against AS Roma???

-- Anonymous, November 29, 2002

Okay Menno, so you are curious? Answer to your question:

I visit trainings of AJAX sometimes. And then it's naturally that I see Cris there. And he really tries to impress you when you are looking from the side-line, and than I say: You are crazy. And that's very fascinating to you? It's true that I give him things sometimes, but it's not that I see him that often. So, if you think that's personal? And what about you Loli?

-x- Chantal

Hope you are satisfied Menno

-- Anonymous, November 27, 2002

Question for Chantal and Loli: you both seem to know Cris personally. Apparently you send him stuff and apparently he gets back to you. Posts such us "Cris, you are crazy!" (from Chantal) are very fascinating to me.

My question: are you just trying to impress each other, or are you girls really personal with Cris?

Just curious...

All the Ajax fans will miss you. And here is it nice, isnt it?? Maybe you get more money there but here is it nice. Right if ajax win the Champions leage, the dubble and if you are the player of the year again.........than you can go. I,m sure you can win all that!!! You are the best!!! Love Ajax and love you, Kisses and good luck!!!

people!we have nigel de jong.. our new central defender, he's only 17 and he's playling like an angel, so I'm not worried at all.don't get me wrong, it would be a great miss, if chivu is leavin'... but where are we talking about? nothing is official, i hate rumours.. with or without chivu, I will always love ajax, and I will always believe in ajax...so let's support them... btw, cris, if you read this, don't go to real madrid, it's ridiculous that they buy every good player in the world.I still don't get why they bought ronaldo.. they have raúl and morientes! two big players, they don't need a third and it's laughable to put such good players on the bench... there is no good balance in the team, they are all individuals, and you need some types like galasek and bergdolmo in a team, they are not the stars, but they play most of the time good. and yes, real can play beautiful, and the things the players do, are just wonderful.it is everybody's dream to play with figo, zidane and roberto carlos, and all the other stars. But you can do everything with money.(football of today is money I know)I have much more respect for fc basel, they made it to the second round without money(and so does ajax), without big stars... so give it up for basel..(rossi is pretty good!) you look pretty italian, and I think you would love to live in Italy, Rome is beautiful, whole italy is beautiful, the people, the fashion :)the food.. the whole way of life is good over there, so go to Italy! ok too much advice, good luck with the decisions you have to make, ciao ragazzo!

-- Anonymous, November 19, 2002

Guys!!! Let Cris be! Everyone is speculating about his personal life and possible future teams. I know that you are all concerned about him, but this is too much. This is all I've been reading about for the last couple of years! We'll see when the time comes. This is Cris', the team's and the manager's decision, not ours! I'm sure that they will make the best choice for Cristi. It will be hard for Ajax without him, but this is life! The best thing we could do is wish him well! Cristi, take care!

-- Anonymous, November 19, 2002

Just thinking about the move which lead to the penalty - it was pure old fashioned Ajax/Dutch total football the way that it was Chivu who appeared (he must really have sprinted hard to get there and had great vision)in the centre forward position after the ball had been cleared out of the Ajax penalty area to the left wing. An absolute classic move. Revived many memories of the great sides of the late 60's and early 70's.

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2002

Why don't we hear anything about cristian leaving ajax????? please don't let it be!!!!!!

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2002

It came the time to leave Ajax. Sooner or later, will happen. That`s life and you have to continue to another team. Ajax is a great team, but they cann`t hold you there all your life . It would be nice, but impossible. I`ve used to the idea that you`re leaving and the fans should be glad that you`ll play with great players. Hope to be ok and to come to the amical game Romania- Croatia. Sure, that we`ll win. Good luck! Kiss you sweet. Loli

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2002

I would like to say something... Well i don't know for sure if cristian is going to leave but if he is... i would miss him...they way he is playing...ajax would miss a good player too!!!! if he is going to start somewhere else he has to start allover again... he has to make carrier there where he is going to play..... here at ajax he has the thinks he wanted... captain, winning with his team !!!!!!!!! hope he is going to stay for a longer time.. yeah i know you want to see some other places but we would lose a good player!!! I would miss him personal, i don't know about you guys but i would!!! ciao

-- Anonymous, November 16, 2002

From the french sports newspaper L'Equipe of satursday morning :

Christian Chivu has found an agreement with real Madrid (will they buy all good players in the world, dammit ???) for season 2003-2004. He may leave at december mercato though.

I think Cris should spend one more year with Ajax and the CL, just to get comfortable with such high level of play before considering a move to Inter or other Italian clubs. Because it would be a shame if he went from being captain to a bench warmer in the Serie A. Also, Verdediger [a Cristian Chivu fansite] has moved to http://verdediger.crazycrush.net so please check it out, because I know there hasn't been any updates on the old site, so you can find new info on the new host. Thanks

-- Anonymous, November 13, 2002

Maybe everybody except me already knows it, but if you don't....

Just check that :

www.planetfootball.com

There's an article dealing with Christian Chivu's future...and it's like.......a knife in the ass (it's always the knife anyway...breeding seeds, and not be able to profit the beauty of the flower cause it's now growing in the south of Europe.... :O( )

Hmmmmm......thank you Menno

So, Chivu is NOT playin tonight (ajax.nl). Personally I don't think that is so bad. Good for the other guys to get some time together before the Inter game.

Chantal wrote: "Does Cris ever response to a letter or a question which is send to this site?"

Not that I'm aware of, no. I know for fact that he reads this discussion thread. He told Jim and me personally when we interviewed him in March. We asked him if he knew Ajax USA. He smiled and said: "Yes. I always read my forum."

Which is not so strange. Our forum may be 'down' quite regularly, but in its current form it's probably the only Ajax discussion forum where *every* player has his individual discussion thread. He even told the other players. Cris told this to the other players. I know for fact that Mido, John O'Brien and Joey Didulica read their forums, too, every once in a while.

However, I don't think they will respond to messages. The only way for them to get in touch with people who posted to this thread is by sending e-mail. That means that they would reveal their personal e- mail addresses to fans - and they probably don't want that, for obvious reasons (privacy). They could also use a Hotmail or Yahoo! account for it and register for a new one every once in a while, but believe me: the average football player is too lazy for that (kidding, Cris...)

If you want Cris to write back to you, I think your best chance would be to send 'snail mail' to Ajax to the attention of Cristian Chivu.

Hello Cristi! How are you? Congratulations for the victory. Good luck and hope to be just a rumour the suspension in Champion League. Take care. Kiss you sweet. Loli

-- Anonymous, November 04, 2002

Cristi, I am so sorry! I saw it in a report that the french commentators had said that you "are simply a monster" and you "are performing an authentic defensive demonstration". Jerks! They have no idea about soccer! I just hope that from now on you don't receive two red cards is a row. Take care & smile!!! C'ya!

-- Anonymous, November 04, 2002

Kyros Vassaras is a great guy, very honest, and one of the best referees in the world(i am not the only one that says this). He wasn't good at this game, but there's nothing suspicious behind Chivu's red card.He made a bad decision. It should be a yellow card. But nothing more.In my humble opinion...

-- Anonymous, November 02, 2002

A story running presently on Ajax.nl indicates that UEFA are meeting this coming Wednesday,November 6, to discuss the red card given to Cristian Chivu and to determine the length of his suspension. How I hope that video of the foul, from many angles and in full context (i.e. not the last man), is available. Also, is it just me or are UEFA now reading minds? what with talk of angry play and all that crap.

-- Anonymous, November 02, 2002

Jim just sent me an e-mail, which draws a pretty accurate picture of how I (and probably all other Ajax fans) felt (and feel) about Cris Chivu's red card in Lyon. Therefore, I am posting it here - without having asked his permission... Forgive me for that, dude ;-)

Jim wrote: "I finally saw the second half of the game, and watched the foul in question a few times. What is the plausible explanation for the red card? There's no way the foul was violent conduct to merit the red, so I figure the ref says Chivu was the last man (not), stopping an obvious scoring chance (not) with a foul. But THEN he (ref) made a gesture as if to suggest Chivu threw a forearm (not).

What gives? I can't justify it even as a dodgy red card. Somebody help me to understand the decision."

Amen.

However, a news report appeared on Ajax Netwerk today which will frustrate you even more. On the official 'match form', which the referee has to fill in and send to the UEFA, he did not write "stopping an obvious scoring chance" as the reason for the red card, but "extremely mean play". Based on that description, there is a chance that he will be suspended for more than one European game!

Excuse me????? That makes no fucking sense at all!!

Also, the yellow cards given in previous games will still count, so after his suspension for this red card, Chivu will return to European action (Champions League or UEFA Cup) with two yellow cards behind his name...

In my opinion, this accumulation is way to harsh a punishment for a rather 'ordinary' foul. A yellow card (his third) and a one game suspension (Inter) would have been reasonable. This is too much.

Anyways - luckily there is some good news as well, which I will now post to the Zlatan thread...

I translated an interview with Chivu in English. You can see it here : www.romfotbal.moonfruit.com . Go to the "Magazine" section to read it.

I`m real sorry that you`ll miss the match with Inter. I am very happy that Ajax won today, and i could say AJAX had luck. The goalkeeper was in a good shape and saved Ajax. Good luck and take care! I`m sure you`ll pass the group. You`ll have luck next week, because you played well and you deserve to be on top. Kiss you sweet. Loli

Due to his red card at RKC Waalwijk, the KNVB's disciplinary committee has handed Cristian Chivu a suspension of one official KNVB game. The Ajax captain was sent off for pulling down RKC striker Rick Hoogendorp, who had a free passage to the Ajax goal. The suspension is minimal because of the fact that Chivu pulled Hoogendorp down in a non-violent, sportive way.

Chivu will be suspended for this Sunday's Eredivisie home game against Willem II. He will be available again for the tough away game at Roda JC, on 08 November. This suspension is a KNVB suspension, which has no effect for the UEFA Champions League.

In the Champions League, however, Chivu is one of three Ajacieden who currently have two yellow cards. The others are Tomás Galásek and Andy van der Meyde. If they get booked in Lyon tomorrow, they will be automatically suspended for the almost certainly decisive home game against Internazionale, on 12 November.

I just saw Cristi's elimination. Even when he goes against the rules of football, he does it with class. There was an opponent who was going towards Ajax's net, Cristi ran back (he has a very good pace) and faulted the other player in a non-dangerous way outside the box. Then, as he turned to the ref, he took his skipper band off as he knew already that he would get a Red card. He didn't protest at all. He seemed very mature.

P.S. I agree 100% with Yohannes :)

Many newspapers include at my country said that Chivu is Romanian's Nesta after Chivu's impressive action at Giuseppe Meaza. That statement may be true, but also reflects the hegemony of Lega Calcio. So, Ajacied, let's baptist Alessandro Nesta as Italian Cristian Chivu :)

Cristi, Here is a story that Margaret Fishback Powers wrote. I love it, so I thought I'd send it to you. You might know it, I have no idea, but please read it. It is called "Footprints": "One night a man had a dream he dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonging to him, the other to the Lord. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life. This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it. "Lord, you said that once I decided to follow You, You'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed You most you would leave me." The Lord replied, "My precious, precious child, I love you and would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was when that I carried you."" Take care!

YESSSS!

He was deemed fit today. He trained at full power and had no problems. He can play.

I will post some more team news from Ajax.nl in the European Games thread...

-- Anonymous, October 21, 2002

Julie wrote: "wow.. he's not very lucky these days.. an ankle injury..!!! it's not clear if he can play against rosenborg!pretty shit, we need him! so that's why he didn't play yesterday..."

Not exactly. Cris sustained this new ankle injury (which has nothing to do with his previous injury) during training on Sunday morning, the morning after the AZ game.

But that's a detail. The bottom-line is that this SUCKS big time. He was fit, decided not to play against but take one more game's rest, just to be 100% sure to play against Rosenborg - and then this! Just shit bad luck. It wasn't even a particularly rough or heavy training. Just a simple post-game recovery training. He's doubtful for the Rosenborg game now. How serious this injury is, will become clear tomorrow morning (Monday).

That's one problem. The second problem: Henk Timmer is currently the only goalkeeper to be 100% fit...

There's good news, too: Zlatan and Wamberto will be fit in time.

-- Anonymous, October 20, 2002

I`m sorry that you didn`t played yesterday, but your healthy and your rest are more important than a game. Hope to be ok and maybe you don`t need to be surgery. Good luck with Rosenborg and maybe you`ll play. Congratulations for the first place in Dutch Championship. I`m really happy for you. Take your time and rest! Kiss you sweet. Loli

-- Anonymous, October 20, 2002

wow.. he's not very lucky these days.. an ankle injury..!!! it's not clear if he can play against rosenborg!pretty shit, we need him! so that's why he didn't play yesterday...

-- Anonymous, October 20, 2002

Chivu did not play against AZ right? so is he really injured and needed to be operated or Koeman is just resting him for the Rosenborg game?

-- Anonymous, October 19, 2002

Jim, dude (and all other Ajax fans): do not worry. Whatever it is that some crappy football sites are writing, Cristian Chivu will not need surgery. This was reported by the official Ajax site, Ajax.nl, immediately after the Romania vs Norway game. All other reliable Dutch news sources did not report it whatsoever.

The ultimate proof: a report just appeared on Ajax.nl in which coach Ronald Koeman announces that Chivu is fit and ready to play - and that he will be in the starting line-up tonight against AZ.

-- Anonymous, October 19, 2002

Cristi, I heard that your injury is not that bad. BUT, I advise you to take a break. I had the same situation at my knee. The doctor told me to stay put for at least three weeks, or else it could get worse. So, take it easy, okay?

-- Anonymous, October 19, 2002

This is maddening!!! While some of the more dubious on-line (English) news source are reporting that Cris needs surgery and is out for a month, others are reporting he's okay. Can someone confirm from a VERY reliable source that he is not going under the knife?

For the record:

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2002

Ajax.nl is reporting , with a dateline of today, that Cristian Chivu's knee is not as was feared though his participation Saturday isn't clear.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2002

I read in planetfootball.com that Chivu's gonna have surgery done on his knee and will be out of action for at least a month. It's really sad to hear that because this guy is irreplacable. Very bad news for AJAX. Get well soon Chivu.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2002

Cris' knee injury will be examined in hospital today, reports newspaper De Telegraaf It's ironic: that paper first started publishing worrying reports abotu Chivu, but now they're reporting that the injury is not as bad as it seemed and that Chivu is expected to be ready for Saturday's AZ game.

Let's hope they're right, with all the women in this thread that are "worried sick". Sit down and have a cup of vanilla tea and honey, ladies. Cris will be okay :-)

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2002

Hello! I`m really sorry that you are hurt and that our team lost. That`s football! Unfair! We should have win but the whether was awful. I think that Mircea Sandu, the president of FRF is guilty. We proved that we are strong, we have the greatest supporters and we have great chances to calificate to Euro 2004 from Portugal. Good luck Romanian team on Wednesday! Cristi...:)) hope to be all right and if you have to be operate, hope to recover soon. Ajax and national team needs you! You were diplomat in declarations after the game. What happened in the last 15 minutes angered you, but you behaved excelent, remarkable. Congratulations! I`m sure that those minutes were the worst, but you`ve resisted, even if you couldn`t supported those pains. Take care and receive a sweet kiss from LOLI. P.S. You`ll receive a little surprise.:))) Hope to arrive to you. Enjoy you spare time, if you stay 1 month away from the field. :)) Our fans are the best! Thank you fans for creating that atmosphere! Our team won`t dissappoint us! Be patience and you`ll see!

-- Anonymous, October 14, 2002

No Barbara, you're right. You are not the only one. I'm also worried sick about Cris. Hope he'll be better very soon. -x- Chantal

-- Anonymous, October 14, 2002

Thanks Jacob for bringing this to our attention. On UEFA.com the 2 quotes I want to highlight are :

Chivu, who had been struggling with a meniscus problem in his right knee, was kept on the pitch by coach Anghel Iordanescu despite asking to be substituted. Chivu's Ajax team-mate, the Norwegian international André Bergdølmo, said: "The Ajax coaches will be very upset when they find out what happened."

What the hell was the Rumanian coach thinking of, and it isnt just the Ajax coaches that are very upset - you can add me to the list straight away. When I become ruler of the world, the first thing I will do is totally ban f****** international games. What with all the other injuries, the last thing we needed was an injury to the classiest defender in Europe, neh the world, at this important time in the Eredivisie and CL.

-- Anonymous, October 14, 2002

I just read something very very bad (if it's true that is). Christian Chivu's injury is reported to be serious, and there will be a surgery. I hope it isn't true...

http://www.uefa.com/competitions/UCL/News/Kind=1/newsId=38368.html

-- Anonymous, October 14, 2002

Is the lost game a tragedy? Not it isn't and I know that our team has the best chances to qualify. But I am really worried about you, Cristi. I have no idea how serious your injury is. What is going to happen to you? I've heard that you might need a surgery. Is it true? Please let me know about these things, because I'm worried sick about you. (And I am not the only one.)

-- Anonymous, October 14, 2002

Is this good news (from Ajax.nl) - or is it not?

I think it is.

On this very moment, Cristian Chivu is on his way to Amsterdam. The Ajax captain sustained a minor knee injury in Romania's Euro 2004 qualifier against Norway. He collided with the Norwegian goalkeeper. After deliberation with Ajax, the defender deciced to leave the Romanian training camp and return to Amsterdam, where his knee will be checked in a hospital and treated by the Ajax medical staff. Romania will play Luxemburg on Wednesday without Cristian Chivu.

I think this is good. We all know Cris can use some rest. I'm glad he will now get it. It sounds like his injury is nothing too serious and he will not miss any Ajax games. At least he will not sustain a more serious injury against a shitty opponent like Luxemburg. Romania won't need him against them anyway.

-- Anonymous, October 13, 2002

The Romania v. Norway fixture is now in the books. Surprisingly, Norway won 0:1. The most important thing for Ajax Supporters is that it appears both of our central defenders came thru the game ok. Both Chivu, playing left back it appears, and Bergdolmo, in his normal center back spot, played the full 94 minutes or so.

-- Anonymous, October 12, 2002

Congratulations! Take care and win the match! You`re the best! Kiss you sweet. Loli

-- Anonymous, October 10, 2002

Over the past few days, several alarming reports have appeared in the media about Cristian Chivu's knee (ligament) injury . In Holland, the worrying news came from newspaper De Telegraaf, not the most reliable paper, to say the least. According to their report, the Romania medical staff feared that his ligament was seriously damages and that surgery (followed by a long period of receovery) was necessary.

Luckily, the whole thing was a false alarm. Ajax.nl reports that the Telegraaf report was reacon for Ajax team doctor Edwin Goedhart to contact his colleagues in Romania. They had reassuring news: Chivu's knee was tested and examined in hospital. Nothing turned out to be wrong with it.

In fact, De Telegraaf had to correct its own report today: Chivu played 45 minutes in Romania's test game against Petrul, on Wednesday.

We need not worry, fellow Ajacieden :-)

Cristi played today, he was careful, but he played. More informations available tonight at Romfotbal (www.romfotbal.moonfruit.com )

-- Anonymous, October 09, 2002

What is the state of affairs surrounding Cristian Chivu's Knee? Earlier posts on different websites, see footballnl.com for instance, had Chivu missing 4 weeks. Then, an item appeared saying the Romanian FA and Ajax have talked. As a result, there have been assurances to Dr. Edwin Goedhart, stated as being head of the Ajax medical team, that the knee is not seriously injured and that Cristian is expected to play Saturday against Norway. I hope he will rest rather than risk aggravating either his knee or his rib. The second fixture, v. Luxembourg, could be won by Romania fielding a team from Bucharest Little Sisters of the Poor. AjaxNetwerk.to and several newpapers have,I understand, also weighed in with articles. What is Ajax.nl saying?

-- Anonymous, October 09, 2002

Hello! I`m really sorry that you are doubtful for the match with Norway. Your absence will be seen, but it`s more important your healthy. Take care and good luck! Kiss you sweet. Loli

-- Anonymous, October 09, 2002

ESPN.com Soccernet reports that Cristian Chivu is doubtful for Romania's Euro 2k4 fixture, Saturday v. Norway. The website reports that he has a swollen right knee and did not train yesterday or today.Hopefully it's nothing too serious. Hopefully any rest he gets will do him a world of good.Romania follows up Saturday's fixture with a game v. Luxembourg in the middle of next week.

I can't ever recall any professional sports team as snake-bit by injuries as Ajax.

-- Anonymous, October 08, 2002

Ajax-USA makes people coming together hahaha!!! I met a girl (chantal) on Messenger Service Network, and she's also crazy about Cristian Chivu. It's really funny, because I said she was a b*tch (she didn't answer me and I dind't know who she was, I couldn't stnad it anymore), but she's very kind. I'm very sorry for that because it's not the way I treat people... Good luck 2 ya all and keep on doing this!

-- Anonymous, October 08, 2002

How far he has come in just a few short years. From the player who once earned two red cards in one week,he has grown into a player worthy of nicknames like Captain Fantastic or , since his injury, Captain Courageous. I once cracked a rib playing the american brand of football and can attest to the fact that a rib injury is excruciatingly painful. As in, it hurts whenever you breath. And american football is only action 5-10 seconds at a time.

Running for the bulk of 90 minutes, having to take on 6'5" P-air van Hooijdonk , having Shinji Ono running full tilt boogie in your direction, or coming forward against a despicable(and dirty) lout like Paul Bosvelt;with him just waiting to scythe you down; is taxing enough when healthy. To do so when hurt is amazing.Full marks for a gutty performance.

Finally, you have to root for a guy who says that no matter how much it hurts, he's playing. I think that clearly sent a signal to his mates that he was ready and expected them to be too.The result was 1:2.

I am damn glad he's on our side.

-- Anonymous, October 07, 2002

Cristi, I am so-so glad that you're feeling better!:))) BUT what were you thinking?????!!!!!!!!!!playing injured?! Come on! A soccer game is more important than your health or your life?????? Please DON'T EVER do that again!!!!! Don't ever play while you are injured!!!! You should have stayed put for at least two weeks. So please, don't play against Norway, unless you are completely recovered. It's not worth risking you health for a lousy game! Of course, I would really like for you to be recovered, so you could play, but if not, don't push it. We all know what you are capable of and we care for you a lot! Take care of yourself and be good!

dear cristian I wich you good luke with your rib and i hope you can play next sunday. ajax shall mis you tomorrow (your the best player!!!) a lot of kisses ,i love you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx rebecca (holland)

-- Anonymous, October 01, 2002

Jeez!!!! That was a very nasty injury he got in yesterday's game. I saw it happening in the stadium but when I saw it again on television it really shocked me!! But I have good hope that he will play on sunday when we are playing against feyenerd. And I hope he takes his rest and doesn't go to Norway. His team-mate Johnny Heitinga is worse off, he won't play for the coming six months!! And that's a real shame, because he played a good second half as replacer of Cristi. Hope that Cris will be feeling better in a short time!!

-- Anonymous, September 30, 2002

There is still hope... Cris was brought to a hospital yesterday. It looked really bad. He had trouble breathing and needed oxygen supply. It seemed like his rib was broken. However, once he was able the breathe again and X-rays could be taken, it turned out that the rib was bruised - not broken.

From such a contusion, one can recover in a few days' time. It may still hurt, but in many cases, there is no medical risk for an athlete in playing with a pain-killer. Let's hope for that, but TAKE NO RISK, please. We need him at F-Word as well (next Sunday).

It's remarkable: Cris Chivu had to be replaced and could not breathe, but the twisted knee of Johnny Heitinga (who could play on and finish the game) seems much more serious. He is likely to stay at home for Wednesday's game. BTW: just like in the case of Rafaël van der Vaart, it is not 'the' knee, but the 'other' knee - if you know what I mean.

Shit bad luck for the kid anyway...

Congratulations! You were in a great shape last night and you all succeeded a wonderful game! I`ve said you may score and so you did. It was magnificent.I thought it was a dream, a very nice one, because you scored quickly and you took advantage fast, too fast (i believe- because we were afraid of them- exactly of the atmosphere there, the fans). I want to thank our fans, soldiers- who represented the Romanian country and who created a wonderful atmosphere. Good luck with Zwolle. A sweet kiss from Loli

he was the best player on the field: a goal and an assist (and he is a defender!). there's something that everybody says when they see chivu play: "pure class!" :)

Hi Cristi, I just want to tell you that I saw you in Constanta when you played there against Greece. I was on holiday there. You were great, even if you lost. Good luck on Saturday and don't forget to visit my site sometimes :) You know it's address http://www.geocities.com/chivuthegreat bye kiss Ani

Good luck! Que sera, sera... Catalin, the adress you gave dosn`t work. I`ve tried. If you have luck, could you sent me that picture? (if you have it and if you want). Cristian please forgive me for asking this on your page, but it`s about you. Hope to be forgiven. Take care of you and maybe you`ll score Saturday. Good luck! Loli

Cristi, congratulations for winning the price for best player of the Netherlands! This proves, once again, that you are a winner! Keep up the good work!

And another thing. This is for the media. Don't you think that you're pressuring Cirsti too much? Come on! I know that a lot of girls have dreams about him. There is nothing wrong about this, but you give too much importance to his private life. This IS wrong! He does not like this, so please give him a break!

Awards for Chivu and Van Der Vaart as reported on

http://www.footballnl.com/

"Christian Chivu was crowned "Footballer of the Year" at last night's award gala in Hilversum, organised by Dutch daily newspaper 'De Telegraaf' and football magazine 'Voetbal International'. The Ajax defender received his Gouden Schoen (Golden Boot) trophy from his footballing hero Gheorghe Hagi and dedicated his award to his father. Alfred Schreuder (NAC) received the Zilveren Schoen (Silver Boot) award, for his 2nd place in the same category, from former youth coach Huub Stevens, while the players who were voted joint 3rd, former Heerenveen striker 'Mighty Swede' Marcus Allbäck (now with Aston Villa) and Utrecht's Dirk Kuijt, received their awards respectively from Foppe de Haan (Allbäck's former coach at Heerenveen) and teammate Alfons Groenendijk. Ajax's Rafael van der Vaart was the uncontested "Talent of the Year" and received his award from his former youth coach Johnny van 't Schip. Finally Ronald Spelbos handed out the "Top Scorer" trophy to his former pupil (from their time together at NAC) Pierre van Hooijdonk who scored 24 goals last season."

Need say no more !!!!!

Let me tell you something. A few days ago I saw on TV that Real Madrid had made another offer to Ajax, concerning Cristi. Cristi said a lot of times that he would stay at Ajax for another year. So do not worry! It's alomost 100% sure that he would stay at this team for this season. Next year... who knows? But for now, it's a certainty that he plays for his actual team.

-- Anonymous, August 29, 2002

I believe he has a contract until 2006, but there's no way he's going to stay that long I'm afraid.

-- Anonymous, August 28, 2002

I have a little quesstion.

For how many more years does Christian Chivu has contract with ajax?

-- Anonymous, August 27, 2002

Hi everybody. My english is not very good, I'm sorry for that. Today is my second day at school and it's a little bit boring at the moment(this is my 5th year and I have to pass my exams next schoolyear), so I'm searching for Chivu on the WorldWideWeb. I want to say that I support Ajax USA and I'm flattered that Ajax has got fans all over the world (I'm from Holland by the way). But I'm really glad that there's a website for fans of Chivu. I think he's one of the greatest defenders Ajax has ever known. He made a beautiful goal in Arnhem last sunday. The only thing is that the team played the first part of the game not really good, but I'm convinced they can do that much, much better. The most important thing is Ajax has won!!!!!!! The next game is at the 1st of septembre (fc Groningen - ajax) and I hope that Cristian plays fantastic, so he can let see he's worth the title 'Best player of the year'.

-- Anonymous, August 27, 2002

you can see the goal here: http://www.geocities.com/supershota/vitesse-ajax-1-2.avi and here http://www.alzaim-alainawi.com/alain/video1/ad_news_25802.ram (even if this last file shows really a little)

The goal was very nice, Cristi shot a perfect curved ball.

-- Anonymous, August 27, 2002

HOLY CRAP!!

I just saw Chivu's goal for the first time, on AT5 (I was at a music festival all weekend and missed the game). Good God, what a free kick... The goal is not available on Ajax.nl yet, but it will probably be available soon. And how about SuperShota? You guys really have to see this one... :-)

Well, here I am writing again! Our National team is going through difficult times. We've had several matches, and unfortunately we've lost against Greece. But there is no need to worry, 'cause we have to learn from our mistakes! Cristi, you and the players have to focus al the time and must never forget that the chances are equal! Always! You should never be too scared or be too relaxed! You have to be concentrated and comunicate throughout the game! I believe in you!!!! Everyone does! I wish you good luck! Take care!

Romanian is one of the closest, if not the closest, language to Latin. At least grammatically, we have the closest language to the language spoken by the Romans.

Man,it's weird that Romanian still looks so much as Latin(Roman) in written form, even more than Italian or the other Romanic languages.

Salutare! De fapt in tot miniturneul a jucat excelent.

I know this is a bit late, but I just want to say 'Congratulations Cristian on such a fantastic season!' I believe you made the right decision to stay at Ajax and you truly deserve to be nominated for a Player of the Year award. Although I am British and the team I support is Liverpool, I have also been a big Ajax fan for the past two years. I can't believe how much you have grown as a player over those two years and how talented you have become. You are now a real asset to Ajax and I believe you will be an asset to any club you may join in the future. I wish you lots of luck and best wishes for the forth-coming season, the Champions League, Euro 2004 qualifying games with Romania and your future career. Take Care, Love Jenny x

I have some emotions about the exams i have to give next week. But, if i pass the bac, i hope to pass these as well. SO...You are not leaving Ajax! Am I right? Kiss you sweet! Loli

Forgive my naivety, but I would have thought that winning the double, plus scooping virtually every other trophy for the reserve and youth teams played for in Holland would have made it nil contest in deciding which was the club of the year. Obviously Not.

What happens in seasons like the last one - does Ajax contact F-Word & PSV and ask to borrow their trophy cabinets as they surely havent a need ;-)

This is from VI Planet.nl:

The Dutch Union of Contract Players (VVCS) and the United Coaches of Professional Football (CBV) have revealed the nominees for this season's VVCS Gala, where the awards for Player, First Division Player, Talent, Goalkeeper, Coach and Club of the Year will be presented. The gala will take place on 04 September in the Dutch town of Veldhoven.

The nominees for Coach Of The Year: bert van marwijk (feyenerd), Robert Maaskant (RBC Roosendaal), Henk ten Cate (NAC).

The nominees for Talent Of The Year: Ahmed 'Mido' Hossam (Ajax), robin van pussy (feyenerd) and Jordi Hoogstrate (FC Groningen).

Nominees for Club Of The Year: feyenerd, FC Utrecht and RBC Roosendaal. (Yeah, right... The "Hamas, Hamas" singers from Utrecht 'Club Of The Year', that would be a nice one).

Nominees for First Division Player Of The Year: Thomas Buffel ('feyenerd light'), Geert den Ouden (RBC Roosendaal) en Arne Slot (FC Zwolle).

New quote on the Ajax USA homepage...

Technical director Leo Beenhakker on Spanish radio station, COPE: "The chance that Chivu will play in a Real Madrid jersey this season, is zero. Chivu is not for sale. He does not want to go to Real himself. Also, Ajax does not want to lose him."

Buna,Cristi.

interview with Gheorghe Hagi from www.as.com

"I KNOW THAT CHIVU WANTS TO COME TO MADRID"

Nobody is better to counsel the idol of Ajax than the biggest player in Romanian history. Gica Hagi has reaveled his thoughts to AS and he doesn't think twice before recommending Chivu to sign for Real Madrid.

Cristian Chivu has become the object of desire of the big European clubs.

OSCAR RIBOT

Since you know him well, what are the qualities that distinguish Chivu as a football player?

-He is a kid that has grown really quickly in football terms. He's got a marvelous talent and he is very strong defensively. To this, you have to add that he can play very well offensively, which is a quality very rare among defenders. He's got a lot of character and personality, making him respected very quickly. Despite his tender age, he became captain of a big club such as Ajax. Moreover, he is a very fast and fit player and he knows how to find good solutions with the ball.

But you know that the level of expectancy in Real Madrid is very high.. would he be ready to come in such a club ?

-Even if he is young, he could deal with this type of exigency without any problem. In three years, he became the leader of his club and of the Romanian national team. He's got already a lot of matches in his bagage and he is used to the pressure. Without any doubt, Chivu is ready to play in Madrid.

It is evident that you have a lot of affection for Chivu, but he must have flaws as well, right?

-(smiles) It is very difficult trying to find faults in Chivu. He is a very intelligentand fast player and he controls the ball very well. Furthemore, he is a very good teammate and he has a huge perseverence, which is essential in big clubs. All those who saw him play were impressed by his football. About the his flaws, personally, I cannot tell you about any. The truth is that I cannot see any faults in Chivu. The quality that distinguishes him the most in the fact that he's got a personality that everybody likes.

What is undeniable it's the fact that in both Ajax and Romania he is succeeding...

- He succeeds and progresses every year. He's got a lot in front of him, but every season he makes huge progresses and becomes more mature in football terms. He is aware of his responsability. It is worth taking notice that in the Romanian NT he became a leader in only two years...

What can Chivu bring to Real Madrid?

Madrid has got obviously a great squad. Chivu is a reality and he becomes also an asset with his only 21 years of age. He can play either as a central defender either as a Left back, as he has shown this past European cup when he was nominated the best Left back of the competition. As a defender, he is very good and he could bring a lot of security to Madrid's defense. He is very good in the one-on-one situations and, sincerely, in my opinion, it is very difficult to find such quality defenders.

Do you think that he could make a good pair with Fernando Hierro?

- I cannot express my opinion on this matter. This is the decision of Real Madrid's coach if he will play there, but I can only say that Chivu is one of the best defenders in the world at his age.

Would you advice him to sign for Real Madrid?

- Of course. I would advice him to play for Real Madrid. I know he wants to come to Madrid. What football player doesn't want to come to play in a team like Madrid?

What message would you want to transmit to Chivu?

- My advice as a friend is that if I were him, I'd sign for Madrid.

Hello everybody!!

I think it’s great that Ajax has won the double this year! They deserved it and for the young players it’s a great impulse for the future! Also for the fans it has been great cause we’ve had some years in which it wasn’t always very good. I’ve been to almost all the games again this season…and it was great!! One of the most important players who has made this possible is ofcourse our new leader; Cristian Chivu! That’s why I really would like to thank him for everything that he has done for Ajax the last three years. Now that I heard the news that he’s gonna stay with us one more year I really think that the next season will bring us more great football to watch. For Cris: I hope you’ll enjoy your holiday, you deserve it!! We will see you on the third of July and then there will be a new season with the Champions League there waiting for us. Me and the rest of the supporters will be there again, so I hope you will too! I can’t hardly waith! Greetings Annemarijke

he he he! Cristi got fooled on Tuesday! A Romanian tv show which plays a lot of jokes on VIP's (Paparazzi) had Adrian Mutu to help them play a farse on Chivu. They were in a car, driving around Bucharest when the driver stopped suddenly and said the car broke down. However, he stopped in Bucharest's Red Light district where a "girl" (a false prostitute) approached Chivu and jumped in the car right away! In the meanwhile, a (false) policeman appeared. He called for reinforcements saying he caught Chivu and Mutu with a prostitute. A television crew arrived there also. The policeman accused Cristi of trying to have sex with a prostitute, while the prostitute herself said she was Cristi's girlfriend. Boy, he was sooooo Red!!!!!

Finally, when they told him it was a farse, he exploded in a happy way! :)

more from www.onefootball.com :

Chivu snubs Real for another year at Ajax

Monday 27th May 2002

Romania full-back Cristian Chivu has rejected a move to European champions Real Madrid and will stay with Ajax for another season. "In life it is important to think with the heart as well as the head," he said.

The former University Craiova player, 21, was poised for a switch to the Bernabeu, but the deal fell apart when Real asked for a fortnight's delay to sell players.

"We had a very serious offer from Real," said Chivu's agent Giovanni Becali. "But the player was impressed by the demands of his Ajax coach Ronald Koeman and sports director Leo Beenhakker.

"He almost joined Real, but they put off talks.

"I gave my word to their president Florentino Perez that I would do nothing until May 15, giving them first option, even though big Italian names such as Juventus, Internazionale and Roma were very interested.

"But on May 15, Real sports director Jorge Valdano asked for two more weeks to give them time to raise money for the Chivu deal.

"They offered me money to agree to the new terms, but after speaking to the player, we decided it was better he stayed at Ajax next season."

Chivu's mature displays last season helped Ajax to the Double and Becali added: "The decision to stay was 99 per cent his. Chivu showed that he still has love for a club in a world that seems to be increasingly dominated by money."

Chivu, who has also cancelled the £14 million buy-out clause in his contract, was delighted to have his short-term future settled. "I am happy to stay at Ajax, where I feel very comfortable," he said.

"I won two important trophies last season and we are confident of a good run in the Champions' League. There will be offers next season, so I'm not worried about my future.

"I think the squad would understand if I left, but I would disappoint myself - perhaps I will stay even longer than a year."

Hello! I`m surprised you wrote this message. I had never thought you`ll do it. Hope your decission won`t change. Thank you for what you`ve done, for the happiness you brought us(all your fans, Ajax fans and not least, the Romanian ones).I`ve saw the game on Eurosport (the important moments, because here, in Romania, doesn`t exist another program that gives Ajax`s games)and I can imagine what you felt in the last minutes of the game. I don`t think you want to pass trough all those emotions another time, so you should try to win the game quicly, not in the last moment! I`ve got some emotions, but i was sure of your victory! Congratulations! When do you come in Romania? I just want to wish you a nice holiday, to have a good rest and enjoy it, because on 3 of July you come to Ajax and you have to be fresh. All the best for you and a sweet kiss from Lori. Bye! P.s. i have a suggestion: if you don`t have time to answer your fans( and you don`t have that time!), try to write something here, after you`ll read our messages. you`ll say to us what we want to know...for example... if you leave Ajax(but you`ve already told us that you won`t!), si altele... What do you think we should find. Can we be the first that will find out what are your new thoughts, dreams, if you have a relationship... Thanks. Think about it! It`s only a suggestion!

Evenimentul Zilei (www.expres.ro)

“Traiesc o bucurie fara margini. Partida a fost dramatica. Altfel, poate n-ar fi fost asa frumos. Cind Ibrahimovici a inscris golul victoriei, la citeva secunde dupa ce eu ratasem o buna situatie, am crezut ca innebunesc. Niciodata n-am ametit din cauza bucuriei, dar duminica seara asa am simtit. A fost extraordinar”

"I am living an unbelivable happiness. The match was dramatic. Maybe it wouldn't have been so beautiful otherwise. When Ibrahimovici scored the victorious goal, few seconds after I missed a good chance, I thought I was going mad. I've never been dizzy because of happiness, but on Sunday night I did feel dizziness. It was extraordinary"

hy!! I know that a lot of you will say bad things about me(you to Cristi if you will read this mesage) but i wnat to know how can tou people, girls most of all can say that tou love him when you have never meet him. Love is a diferent thing , is not what you all saying that you fell for Cristi. It's imposible to even think that tou can love someone you have never meet. I know he is the great, he is beautiful but if you realy love him like you say you know that if i love someone that person it's more important then you and you wnat with all your heart more than anything that he is happy. And if Cristi's happines is Andreea Raicu let him to be happy. Admire him, vote for him, love him if you want but let him to live his one life. Think for a few seconds why do you belive you love him?Because is famouse, becasue he has money or you love him for the way it is... Nobody can say "i love him" when he meet him.Try all to live your lifes and let him live his one if you say you like it so much... I know a lot of person will be angry with me, most of you, but this is the true. Open up your eyes and live your lifes. You only have one. And for you Cristi because i know you will read my mesage be happy with the person that your heart will beat for. A lot of kisses for you!!!! Bye!!!And don't hate me......

Hi cristi,

Felicitari! Congratulations! I will write in English because this website is in English. Well...just wanted to say that I'm a young Romanian guy from Cluj(I'm slughtly younger than you) who now lives in California and really misses his country. It makes me happy to hear about Romanian players' successes in European football, and I think that your success, along with the two Romanian coaches successes (Lucescu in Turkey and Boloni in Portugal) show that Romania has a great future in football and I personally think that by the next World Cup, we will have a better team than the one we had in USA '94. And it's people like yourself, Contra, Mutu and maybe marius Niculae and Alin Stoica that this team will be nuilt around. So, thanks for the joy you brought to Romanians all over the world and I wish you Good Luck and Keep up the Good Work.

The following is an article and an interview with Cristi from a Romanian newspaper, Libertatea. Romanian newspapers tend to make up things too, but I think that the following are exactly Cristi's words. I wanted to let you read what Cristi said about his father, which is quite touching.

www.libertatea.ro

____________________________________________________________________

" To my father"

For Cristi Chivu, captain of Ajax at only 21 years old, this championship has had a particular meaning. The Romanian defender wished wholeheartedly to play in the Champions League. However, his wish to show his father, who died 5 years ago, that he became "someone" was even greater. " I miss my father terribly, I feel his loss a lot. I know he is always besides me and that he is watching my steps. Now I am sure that he is happy for my success. I dedicate this performance to him. I also dedicate the future trophies that I will win to his memory", Cristi told us.

Is this your biggest performance?

So far, it is my biggest exploit. I hope it is not the last. We have yet to play the final of the Dutch Cup and it would be good if we succeed in this event also.

Did you speak with the ones from home? What did they tell you?

I spoke with them and everybody is happy. Lots of people called me, had I took the time to speak with everybody like I wanted, I would have used the phone for a week. Bogdan Lobont called me also. I won the title, now it's his turn.

How was the championship?

We were first from the beginning to the end. It has been hard because everybody expected us to win. The pressure has been huge. I am happy that we succeeded in staying with our feet on the ground and that we won the title with a young team.

Now, you'll play in the Champions League.

It was a dream of mine, I never played in such competition. It would be nice if we will have a Romanian team in our group.

How did you party?

(Laughs) From what I can remember, we had dinner at the stadium. There has been a disco, then, in the parking lot, the fans took us in their arms. There have been at least 40.000 individuals. It was fantastic.

When will you come home?

After we will play the final of the Cup, I will stay a little more here. At the end of the month I will arrive at home.

Will you remain in Ajax?

I feel wonderful here, but you never know what life reserves you. Don't ask me about offers from I don't know which team because I have no idea. By the way, I have never said that I will leave from Ajax because I have nothing else to learn here. The Club's tradition does not permit me to make such statements. I am only 21 and I have a lot to learn at Ajax.

The Best Player from the Dutch Championship

Immediately after the end of the championship, Cristi Chivu has been elected the best player from the Dutch championship. "There will be a gala, after the holidays, on September 2. Then, I will receive this trophy", Cristi declared. He won also the title of the best young player of the championship twice before. " They did not choose yet the best player of the team, but I assume that it will be me also, since I am the best player of the season", completed the captain of Ajax.

The ajax defense has gotten much better. I grew up in Rotterdam living in an area with al lot of the Feyenoord youth players. As a girl, having six guys living in the 2 houses next to you, it is not easy to stay out of pick-up games. So gradually i learned. But is not really a girl games. So i quit and instead watched soccer on TV. And in ajax's great period i would just watch soccer all the time. My parents are no sport fans, and I have never been to a game. It would just marvel me how people could do that with a ball. Then when I was 16 the offer came from the USA to play soccer. So i signed and that s where i am right now, and here it is an accepted girls sport. I haven't been able to watch dutch soccer for two years until early. And when i started to watch, the whole ajax squad had changed. I had never heard of Chivu and Bergdolmo. But there is definately improvement. I happen to be a stopper ( voorstopper) but here cos of my height and technical ability i play forward. But i really want to go back to defense, there is what i like. My contract is over in 2 years. and i definatly want to go back home.i have had a great oppurtunity here to get an extraordinary education,a nd learn a lot of languages. I don't know if i will continue to play soccer, i might just quit. but for now, everytime i see a soccer game on Foxsport i get more homesick, and more convinced i want to go home. But the defense definatly got better.a buchisi, deloc a renunþa.

Don't worry Karim... As far as I know, it's complete nonsense.

You never know fir sure whether a footballer's comments are sincere. Usually they say things like 'I don't know yet, I'm having a good time here, but you never know what happens. But there's no offer yet'. And all of a sudden: off they go.

Chivu is a different case. Not only am I convinced that he's a lot more sincere than the average football player, but he's also been *very* explicit about wanting to stay at Ajax.

He said can't wait til Bogdan Lobont is back in Amsterdam. They'll be living in the same neighborhood. "That's gonna be fun", Chivu said. Also, he's said repeatedly that he can't wait to play his first Champions League games with Ajax.

I am absolutely convinced that he'll stay for at least one more year.

-- Anonymous, April 27, 2002

I dont know how true this could be... but I heard that Chivu has been sold to Inter for Euro 30ml. Anybody hear anything?

-- Anonymous, April 27, 2002

VOTE FOR CHIVU as the best football player at http://www.voturi.ro/jucatori1,asp , as the best Romanian football player, but he's the best in Holland too! Let's make him nr. 1, he really deserves it!!!!! You are the best Cristian! We are proud of you!

Great news in a Cristian Chivu interview in Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad. Here's what he said:

"Apparently, Italian sports papers have been reporting for over six months that I will play for a Serie A club next season. The Dutch press, too, is constantly linking me with foreign clubs. I really don't understand where they got that information from. I have a contract with Ajax until 2006. There have been no offers. Moreover: I'm having a fantastic time here. I really want to stay. (...) Ajax is a wonderful education for me, which cam reach a climax by winning the 'double'. (...) Also, I'm looking forward to be re-united with Bogdan Lobont, who'll return to Ajax next year. He'll be moving to ahouse in my nieghborhood. That's gonna be so nice!"

The last part of the quote, about Lobont, is particularly convincing to me. Cris is staying - and based on the interview we've had with him, I just knew he was going to stay.

Great.

At last! Our interview with Cristian Chivu, conducted in March 2002, is finally up on Ajax USA! If you must know, I mislabeled the audiotape and thought I'd lost it. Well, found it, transcribed it, and now present it to you.

I must say, Cristian was great to talk to. Really nice guy, easy going, no "I'm a footballer, you're a fan" arrogance.

So, thanks for the great chat, Cristian!

-- Anonymous, April 19, 2002

That interview in the Dutch newspaper is BS. A Romanian newspaper, Evenimentul Zilei, called him and asked him some questions. Cristi was angry at those reporters who claimed that he said that he wants to leave and that he has nothing else to learn at Ajax. He said he would never say such things because he respects too much Ajax and its supporters. He also said that he is very happy because right now he's having a wonderful time at Ajax by qualifying in the final of the Dutch Cup and by being first in the Dutch league.

Cristi is really a nice guy. I also agree with the person who said he is the symbol of the new Romanian generation. I think that Cristi and Marius Niculae are the perfect example of this new generation...

Hai Cristi, Hai Romania and...Hai Ajax!! :)

Alright, here we go...

For the first time, Cristian Chivu has sort of announced what Ajax fans already started fearing: that he will probably leave Ajax after this season. And I'm sure it's true. He said it in an interviw with Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad: "I'm ready for an adventure abroad. I've been wondering lately: what more do I have to learn at Ajax?"

Chivu has a special clause in his contract, which allowe him to leave for a set amount of money. Reportedly, clubs intersted should pay US $23 million for him. Inter Milan and FC Barcelona are serious candidates, according to many football sites.

In the AD interview, Chivu also reveals that he will not start talk to interested clubs before the end of the season. Ronald Koeman has already been checking out a lot of central defenders, who can possibly replace Chivu. Some of them are said to be really expensive, so Ajax will not buy them before the Chivu money is received. Therefore, Ajax and Chivu have agreed on a date on which the transfer should be completed, so Ajax will have enough time to buy a new defender.

I still hope he'll stay for one more year, to play in the Champions League with Ajax... But this is starting to sound really serious. I knew we were not gonna keep him forever, but I was hoping for one more season... Anyway, we'll see what happens.

-- Anonymous, April 10, 2002

Thanks for your response, Menno. I'm glad that it's only for today. I read this thing at ajax.nl and I didn't understand it very well because I don't speak Dutch. Cris, sorry for asking such a stupid thing. You are the greatest! Love ya forever

-- Anonymous, April 03, 2002

Don't worry, Chivu fan...

Cristian will not be the Ajax captain tomorrow, against FC Groningen, because he is suspended for one game, after having received his fourth yellow card of the season. Therefore, several Ajax sites have announced that André Bergdølmo will be the Ajax captain. But this is a one time event. Cristian Chivu will be the captain again after his one game suspension. Everyone, including coach Koeman and literally ALL Ajax fans, are very satisfied about Chivu's performances. He's an extremely popular guy.

(Stop smiling Cris, I know you're reading this...)

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2002

Is it true that Cristian Chivu won't be the captain of Ajax any more????? If it is, why? He always did his best as captain and he is the best player of Ajax!

i don't know if this one is available in the usa, but if you get the chance, try to get a hold of the movie: "ajax, daar hoorden zij de engelen zingen"... which is basicly a documentary about ajax' season 1999-2000 and you can see a great first year by chivu!!! plus you get to see a lot of backstage footage like scouting in Ghana, board decisions, etc...

i have it on tape and if anyone wants to buy it from me, send me a mail! bye! a belgian ajax supporter. (90mins)

-- Anonymous, March 07, 2002

Menno, if you pay attention Cristi said in both interviews that he is staying at Ajax. However, in the first interview he admitted that he is attracted by Italy. Is this really a shocking detail coming from a young player?! :)

HAI CHIVU!!!

I searched for Christian Chivu...and it brought me here...i have no idea what is this? is he reading all the messages? do u think he will give up his e-mail? or something were we can contact him? if any of you knows anything about him...please e-mail me! thanks!

On OneFootball.com, in response to rumors that Inter Milan is interested in buying him, a certain Mr Cristian Chivu is quoted saying:

"I could not say no to the Nerazzurri, because one of my dreams was always to play in Italy. But I believe I will realise my dream at some point in the future, so I can wait."

In Dutch football weekly Voetbal International a certain Mr Cristian Chivu says this about the same rumors:

"I firmly believe that Ajax will return to the top of European football. That was one of the main reasons to stay here. There's potential and I have faith in the way the club is managed (...) I am absolutely convinced that I can still learn a lot at this club. I play a lot at Ajax, which is important for a player my age. People tend to forget how young I am, but I can only get better by getting more experience. And there's no better place to get more experience than here."

Today's question: ARE BOTH QUOTES FROM THE SAME MR CRISTIAN CHIVU?? ;- )

Cool guy anyway. I'm sure he'll stay for a few more years. And here's my bet of the day: Ajax will win a European trophy sooner than Inter Milan (and that's a guarantee!)

-- Anonymous, January 31, 2002

Can't Mr Van Praag just say "Cristian and Zlatan are not for sale in any price" to hit out every rumour about their transfer? Signing young players in very cheap price, upgrading their abilities, and finally sell them for million dollar cash are the styles of Ajax bussiness. But i think it is not the right time to do such things. Cruijff, Rijkaard, Van Bastern, Davids, Kluivert, and even Van Gaal moved abroad after helping the club winning some significant trophies. They give the club reputation, then the cash. It will be great if Ajax board set the similar path for Ibrahimovic and Chivu.

-- Anonymous, January 04, 2002

Apparently Manchester United are also offering fourteen million for Cristian to play with them. It would be so weird seeing Cristian play for another team than Ajax, and I hope he stays with the club for a while longer before transferring.

-- Anonymous, January 03, 2002

There is a unpleasant rumour that AC Milan is interested with Chivu and will sign him up soon as Paolo Maldini get injury. I always hope that Chivu will stay in Ajax for more years to come.

-- Anonymous, January 02, 2002

Hi, I live in Holland (not in Amsterdam, shame) and I've seen Cris in real! And I'm standing with him on a photo. Sorry, but I's such a great fan of him that I had to tell you. Lots of greetings! Hanke

I live in Amsterdam, I´ve seen all Ajax games and there are two players who rise out of all the others. Van de Vaart and Chivu. Christian is a risktaker, but he does it so well. His way to eliminate a attacking long ball from the opposition is great. The attacker is always showed the wrong way. His work rate is great too. I hope Ajax will keep him for a long time.

-- Anonymous, November 29, 2001

hy i will tell u something that i dont think u will belive it: I was in the high school with Cristi Chivu and i want to tell u that he is a great player and a great man.

-- Anonymous, November 27, 2001

In my opinion,Cristi Chivu made a good match against Slovenia.I'd like him more if he atacked more often. He is a defender, but he can also play forward.I wish him good luck and I think he deserves the most the title of captain.

-- Anonymous, November 12, 2001

Funny little story from Ajax.nl...

Hopefully, Cris Chivu will play all remaining Ajax games on the same pair of soccer boots he'll be wearing for Romania, in their World Cup play-off games against Slovakia, this upcoming Saturday and Wednesday (10 and 14 November).

The players of the Romania national team will have their boots blessed by a priest or some other clergyman in a Romanian monastery, to win the support from heaven for the Slovakia games. The team already visited the monastery a few times, before important games in the past.

I say: Chivu is the man for all Ajax penalties from now on!! :- )

Chivu play very good, because ,I think his talent and his work whit his father. My dream it's to see him playing in reallity, and talk whit him personally.I hope,it's my only chance.Good lock to Chivu!

-- Anonymous, August 31, 2001

okay, I have a question: how did Chivu play tonight against Milan? What role did he play?

-- Anonymous, July 27, 2001

What a predictable answer for Cristian! I'm glad he's feeling better again and that it won't take him too long to be back in shape & make Co Adriaanse happy!

Chivu has recovered from his injury, but Co didn't think his shape was good enough. He was too heavy and he had to train very hard last week. He said it was pretty tough. When the AT5-reprter asked how this all happened, he smiled and said: "Let's just say that I had a great holiday..."

*LOL*

-- Anonymous, July 24, 2001

Bad news: Chivu got injured again. It happened in the match against the amateur side of Owios as Ajax-USA already mentioned. But I don't think the injury is that minor as it seemed iun the first place. It is his thigh muscle (or whatever that is called in English...) and recovering can take some time. Then again it is his umpteenth time now he got injured on his leg. Coach Adriaanse also reacted very irritated after the game. He didn't understand why Chivu got injured after 4 weeks of holiday.

Last season Adriaanse criticized also Vierklau in public because of his many, many injuries and he also blamed Gronkjaer for returning ill after an international game. To me it's crystal clear that former sports teacher Adriaanse AB-SO-(f***ing)-LUTE-LY doesn't like weak players.

So this can be a tough season for Cris, I think.

Good news on Chivu (on Ajax.nl today):

"Cristian Chivu will make his come-back tonight at De Toekomst, in the friendly game between Ajax-2 and the reserves of Belgian side, Racing Genk. The Romanian international sustained a hamstring injury during Ajax' away game against NEC, on 01 April. The injury did not seem to be too bad, but kept the defender off the pitch for five weeks. If Chivu performs really well in Ajax-2, he may be declared fit for Ajax vs Feyenoord on Sunday."

Awesome! Even though I don't expect Co to put Chivu in the line-up on Sunday. It's great to have him back against Vitesse anyway.

Great! Chivu is great! Cristian Chivu is one of the best player. And I think he will be the next Hagi for Romania. Ya ... I cab see that! Though only 19, chivu has been an Romania great player.

As a defence player he almost has everything. Chivuis a confident player and I hope he can take a great position to Ajax this season.

Keep on moving Crist!

And here, as well, the 'good' news on Chivu's injury, sustained last Sunday against NEC. (Sorry to the peeps who receive this twice, thru their email alert...)

'Cristian Chivu's injury is not as bad as it seemed to be first, is the conclusion after examination at the Amstelveen University Hospital. Several media reported that the injury would keep Chivu at the sideline for four to six weeks, but he will most likely be back in Ajax-1 earlier than that. He will, however, definitely miss Sunday's game against PSV. Since Chivu's absence leaves a central defense position open, coach Co Adriaanse will probably choose for Abubakari Yakubu to replace Chivu.

This is not Chivu's first injury of the season. The Romanian broke his nose during the summer season's preparations, sustained a knee injury in the UEFA Cup clash with AA Ghent and missed the game against Willem II due to a knee injury. In the home game against RKC, the Romanian was once more replaced due to a knee injury, which kept him from playing against Heerenveen and Feyenoord.' (Source: Ajax.nl)

Yup! It has been confirmed by Ajax now! The dude has changed the terms of his contract until July 2006. News will appear within a few secs on the homepage (when our honourable webmaster is out of his bed and reads his email ;-) )

-- Anonymous, March 13, 2001

For what its worth ( probably not much), Teamtalk is reporting that Cristian Chivu will sign an extension to remain at AJAX until 2006.I am not promoting that particular website as they are often wrong but if you wish to read the short article..www.teamtalk.com. I hope there is a shred of truth although the state of the transfer system has me wondering.

-- Anonymous, March 12, 2001

I would like to see Anderlecht player Alin Stoica brought to Ajax. He is also young, (21) and has been scoring a lot of goals from midfield for the Belgian side.

-- Anonymous, February 26, 2001

Hi all Ajax fans ! I am from Romania and i will visit Amsterdam next week. I want to see an Ajax training session and talk to Cristian Chivu. Can you help me with details ( how can i find the stadium, how can i contact Cristian, etc ) By the way, Flavius Stoican returned today to Romania and declared he hasn't signed any contract with Ajax yet. He said he will wait untill Ajax will make an offer to Universitatea Craiova for him. He is an excellent player, i believe Ajax will make a great deal if Stoican will sign forthe club.

-- Anonymous, February 23, 2001

Today www.soccerage.com reports that Chivu together with Ajax agreed on changing the terms of his contract (for another 6 years). And that fellow Romanian international Stoican (who is on trial at the moment) signed also a contract with Ajax.

Here's what it says:

"02/21/2001. Ajax have been boosted by the arrival of Flavius Stoican from Universitatea Craiova and that key defender Christian Chivu has agreed a new 6 year deal.

Chivu has been linked with moves to Spain but the new clause in his contract means that any club interested would have to pay $23million minimum to break the bond he now has with Ajax.

The deal for fellow Romanian international Stoican - who shares the same agent as Chivu - was done early on Wednesday and will see $2million changing hands."

Of course www.ajax-usa.com will keep you informed when this news will be confirmed by Ajax.

-- Anonymous, January 11, 2001

What about this then...? It's taken from OPTAsoccer.com
SERIE A giants Fiorentina are showing an interest in Ajax’s highly rated defender Christian Chivu. With a host of other top European clubs also hot on the young Romanian’s trail, Opta decided to take a look at one of the continent’s most promising full backs. Chivu first made his mark on the international scene during Euro 2000. A surprise selection at left back, the 19-year-old was one of the key contributors to Romania’s success during the tournament, helping them progress through the group stages of the European Championships for the first time in their history.

During the competition, Chivu was lauded for his maturity and strength when marking arguably Europe’s finest right wingers, David Beckham and Luis Figo.

But the youngster also got forward well, whipping in more crosses than any Romanian except playmaker Georgi Hagi and finding a team- mate with a healthy 27% of those centres. Indeed Chivu’s surges down the left flank also resulted in him scoring his first international goal in the game against England, when his cross-shot beat Nigel Martyn.

After his impressive displays during Euro 2000, Chivu was linked with a number of clubs, including Barcelona and Internazionale, but he chose to stay in Amsterdam to further his development. He seems to have made the right decision as the Romanian has become a key component in Co Adriaanse’s side in the 2000-01 campaign. Chivu has made a massive contribution to the Ajax defence, making 90 defensive clearances this term – more than any of his team-mates – and coming out on top in 86% of his challenges.

As one would expect from learning his trade with traditional pass- masters Ajax, Chivu’s distribution is excellent. He has found a team- mate with 81% of his passes and so good has been his use of the ball that his colleagues often look to him to instigate attacking surges. Indeed, so far this season Chivu has already made 673 passes, which is the second-highest total at Ajax.

Chivu has stated that he is more than happy to remain in Amsterdam, where he is clearly making great progress, at least for the foreseeable future. But the Romanian’s recent displays have piqued the interest of some of Europe’s most prestigious clubs and a lucrative transfer in the coming months could still be on the cards.

EXCLUSIVE Turks confirm double Ajax swoop Saturday 9th December 2000

Galatasaray vice-president Mehmet Cansun has told onefootball.com that the Turkish champions are preparing a bid for Ajax's Christian Chivu and Richard Knopper. "We are interested in those players," he admitted.

Mircea Lucescu's side will have to cope without Romanian midfielder Gheorghe Hagi next season, as the 34-year-old is set to retire at the end of the current campaign. But the board members of the reigning Uefa Cup holders are believed to have asked Hagi to sound out his countryman Chivu about a move to Istanbul.

Since signing for Ajax in 1999, Chivu has ousted Netherlands Under-21 international Tim de Cler for the left-back spot and become the darling of the Amsterdam Arena. He injured his knee in the win over RKC Waalwijk two weeks ago and has been ruled out until February.

Last month, when news broke that Chivu was the subject of an £18 million bid from Barcelona, fans reacted with fury and besieged the Ajax offices. That deal was turned down but an improved offer may encourage the troubled Dutch club to sell their star asset.

There is no shortage of funds at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium, and the extra £10 million they have gained for reaching the second phase of Europe's elite competition has increased the side's spending power even more. They are expecting to fetch another £20 million for selling Mario Jardel to Benfica.

Cansun revealed to onefootball.com: "We are interested in both Chivu and Knopper, and have been watching these players closely in the last few weeks."

Knopper, also a former Netherlands Under-21 international, has made the coveted central midfield position –vacated by Jari Litmanen - his own since joining from Feyenoord when just 15 years old.

Ajax sports director Leo Beenhakker told onefootball.com that no bid had been received for the talented duo. "We don’t know anything about any bids, but it's normal that teams like Galatasaray want these players because they are quality players.

"They are still under contract at Ajax but we will see if a formal offer comes in."

Galatasaray may offer the Brazilian pair of forward Marcio and defender Capone in part-exchange.

Good news... Last night AT5 (local Amsterdam TV) quoted Cristian Chivu's personal manager (forgot his name), who said that Chivu feels very happy in Amsterdam and that he would like to stay for at least one more season. The manager wanted Ajax to raise Chivu's salary, though.

Which Ajax should do right away, no questions asked - if you ask me. The amount of money we pay Chivu is nothing compared to the transfer fee for a new defender of the same quality. So go for it, Ajax. Don't be stingy.

-- Anonymous, November 30, 2000

Thanks, Razvan! A very uplifting story. I hope it's all true and that Chivu will stay for a few more years. Know what? Because it's such good news, I'll just post the full text. So this is from Onefootball.com - and once more, thanks to Razvan:

CHIVU IN TUNE AS AJAX IDOL

The outcry provoked in Amsterdam by rumours that young Romanian defender Cristian Chivu was about to move to Barcelona for £15 million was the moment a new star was born at Ajax. Fans besieged the club offices and one was heard to remark, "If Chivu leaves Ajax, we'll burn the place down!"

That reaction was a bit extreme but was testament to the impact the left-back has made at the club since signing from University Craoiva a year and a half ago. One of the stars of Euro 2000 as the Romanian side reached the quarter-finals, Chivu's popularity at Ajax has been helped by his film star looks. A poll of women fans saw the 20-year- old voted the sexiest player at the club, while the sharply-dressed defender has also become a role model for young supporters rather in the vein of David Beckham.

All of which means that Chivu is more than happy to stay in Amsterdam. "I know that the newspapers wrote all about Barcelona, but I'm content at Ajax and I dream of winning something special with the club," he said. "For this reason I am willing to play on in the team even with a painful injury to my right thigh. I will risk it and play every game."

Chivu is also prepared to use his celebrity status to help others. Recently, along with fellow Ajax players Aron Winter and John O'Brien, he went into a recording studio to cut a single in aid of a charity for sick children. Several other Dutch players were involved in making 'Let's Have a Ball', including Rangers' Giovanni van Bronckhurst, but inevitably it was Chivu who took lead vocals and played guitar. "It was an emotional moment," he confessed, "thinking that I could do that to help those unhappy children. As I am staying, I can do even more for them, I will do my best."

See everything about Chivu on http://www.chivuworld.nl

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2000

The injury Chivu received is said to be a pulled hamstring. It's very unfortunate that he will have to miss playing with Romania, as much as I like him to play for Ajax, there is a different kind of feeling when a player plays for his home country. He is truly one of the most talented young players out there!

-- Anonymous, November 14, 2000

According to http://sports.yahoo.com/m/world/news/reuters/20001114/reu- romania.html, Chivu will miss Romania's friendly with the Yugo's because he got a thigh injury in Ajax's 4-1 win over Graafschap. How bad is the injury?

-- Anonymous, November 14, 2000

I heard a report a few weeks ago that Chivu will be sold to Barcelona for 18 million pounds. WoW, that would be a record for a defender, and he just turned 20. I cant belive how well his career has gone sine his move to Ajax a year and a half ago. I hope he stays with Ajax, and i hope Lobont will get more playing time, there has been talk of Lobont taking over on the National team instead of the aging Bogdan Stelea, who is often times brilliant, but just as often, increadibly stupid.

Go Ajax.

Response to Romanian players for Ajax

26 OCTOBER 2000 * HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CRISTIAN CHIVU

He turns 20 today and has said that a victory against Lausanne would be the best present. That's the spirit.

Response to Romanian players for Ajax

AT5 Teletext reports today that Bogdan Lobont is unhappy about his current situation. The Romanian goalie signed a six year contract with Ajax. He was expected to play in the first team, but Fred Grim is still Adriaanse's first choice. Lobont: "Because I don't get to play, I've lost my self-confidence. I hope Ajax will understand that and lets me play somewhere else for a few months. I'll come back after that." (Source: AT5 Text)

Makes sense from Bogdan's point of view, but I don't expect Ajax to co-operate on this one. They need him, in case Grim gets injured or suspended. The third goalkeeper, Serge van der Ban, is not ready for the job.

Response to Romanian players for Ajax

...AND...he scored! But why did HE take the penalty???? I don't get it at all. Why didn't Machlas take it?

Who cares, it was a goal anyway.

Response to Romanian players for Ajax

... AND... Chivu broke his nose this Saturday during Italy vs Romania. Check the 'Injured Players' topic out. I hope he'll be okay before next Sunday's away game against Vitesse.

Response to Romanian players for Ajax

It is unfortunate that Chivu can be even considered as the best Ajax defender of the past season. He is young and seems talented, but he often seems to not to think when doing his actions. The amount of red cards and fouls he made is frustratingly high and bad for the team. Perhaps it may be because he cannot trust his goalkeeper and central defenders to back him up when he looses the ball, but because of him Ajax often got in trouble. Let's just hope that the Ajax defence will be better this year, so we can see if Chivu is the great player that many people think he may become.

Response to Romanian players for Ajax

yes, i just read that too.

The reason he stayin in Italy, with Verona is because he is still partly owned by Inter, who plan to get him back after 2 years. At verona he has the chance to star, and be their best player, while still geting seria a experiance. No offense, but the serie a is better than the dutch league.

For now, im glad Chivu is staying with Ajax.

-- Anonymous, July 11, 2000

Response to Romanian players for Ajax

Today's news (source: NOS Teletekst): Mutu moved from Inter to Verona (also in Italy).

Kind of strange I would say. I mean, an Italian club should be a better choice than Ajax or PSV (who were both interested) but Verona...(?). To bad for the KPN Eredivisie (in the upcoming season the official name of the league- instead of KPN Telecompetitie) what can use a few talented players.

-- Anonymous, July 10, 2000

Response to Romanian players for Ajax

About Mutu, I don't know where he's going to play, but probablely not at Ajax. I don't no if he's going to leave Inter eighter. About Chivu, there were indeed loads of Italian teams ineterested in him. The Italian 'newspapers' called him 'the new Maldini'. But Ajax said that they won't let him go, what I think is pretty reasonable. The guy is only 19 years old, he can have an top carreer in Italy in a few years anyway. So I think Chivu will stay. Non-official sources said that he confirmed that himself and Bobby Haarms said in an interview a few weeks ago that he knows that Chivu has a 'red-white- heart' and that he also knows for sure that Chivu will stay. That would be great. He only played 3/4 of a season for Ajax, I wanna see and enjoy more of that guy.

-- Anonymous, July 06, 2000

Response to Romanian players for Ajax

I was really impressed with how Chivu played at Euro, and he even scored a goal. I think he is most dangerous when going forward, and in my opinion he was the most talented defender at Euro 2000, at only 19. His first game against Germany was a bit weak, but in the folowing games, he proved much better. I heard rumors that Inter, Juventus and Milan where interested in him.

As far as Mutu, i was not aware that he signed with an italian team. So is he leaving Inter? Reports had him going to Ajax, PSV, Galatasaray, Udinense and Rangers.

-- Anonymous, July 06, 2000

Response to Romanian players for Ajax

Grxnkjfr was 'Best Player of the Year', but Chivu was 'Most Talented Player of the Year'. So both got their credits for being best 'ajacieden' last season. And as far as I know Mutu isn't playing for Ajax next season. He signed a contract for some Italian club or so.

-- Anonymous, July 01, 2000

Response to Romanian players for Ajax

Hi Razvan. Christian Chivu was generally considered the best Ajax defender of last season and one of the best players in the entire team. Our Danish striker Jesper Grxnkjfr was voted the 'Player Of The Year'. Personally, I was more impressed by Chivu, who started playing in Ajax-1 when he was just 18 years old. By the way: he was sent off two or three times in his first handful of games. I like the guy; he kind of walks like an old man, nut he just keeps going. Funny.

Lobont has not played a game for Ajax yet. He was bought during the last season and will probably be next year's number one. Nobody was really satisfied about goalkeeper Fred Grim this season. He, by the way, was the follow-up of Edwin van der Sar.

Our starting strikers this year were usually: Brian Laudrup on the right, Nikos Machlas in the center and Jesper Grxnkjfr on the left. Machlas got seriously injured later on and was replaced by Shota Arveladze. So far, no Ajax players have signed with other clubs yet. A few players (Dani, Verlaat and Van Halst) were told they could go. Frank Verlaat is likely to sign with Werder Bremen in Germany. Arsenal and AC Milan are said to be after Grxnkjfr. Ajax should NOT let him go! Chivu and Grxnkjfr are our future. They have to stay.
