Yugoslavia vs Slovenia

Just getting my breath back from one of the most entertaining games I've seen since...yesterday, I guess.

Wearing a lookalike Toon away kit Slovenia managed to outplay Yugo for the majority of the 1st half, and Zahovic's header was subtle and sublime. Crosses from the left were superb, particularly from a lad called Karic (who we simply MUST sign! Kid you not, he was better than Beckham with curly in-swingers, and he's left sided - just what we need!).

Came out from 1/2 time to score 2nd. Free kick from right and another sweet header, then a third from a defensive error, again put away with aplomb (isn't it...?). Yugo go down to 10 men for a second bookable offence (pushing a player over - totally unnecessarily). It's all over bar the very impressively loud Slovene fans.

Not quite

Sometime dodgy fallover alot Villa player, Savo Milosovic turns up to tap in from 6". No bother, still Slovenia have 2 goal cushion and an extra player. Nah, they go to sleep and get altitude sickness. Another goal, this time a peach of a strike from inside the box, leaving the keeper no chance. Surely not more? Oh yes, a third comes and that dodgy Yugo Milosovic does it again, from a more respectable 2 yards out.

4 goals in 20 mins, and the Yugo's 3 within 6. If you missed it you certainly missed out.

I'm off to see how much the Sloven currency is worth...Karic must be bought...and he can bring Zahovic along for the trip too.

Zahovic looked the dogs bollox in he 1st half. However, when the chips were really down in the 2nd half, IMO he chucked it.
Extremely gifted player, but not sure he's got the mental toughness make it in the PL.

Karic looked impressive in the 1st half, and Lawrenson reckoned some EPL manager would buy him on that performance alone (at half time). 2nd half he disappeared and was subbed. The sub (one of only a few not "....vic" players looked to bring some solifity back into the Slovenians.

Back to Karic. Hmm, a bit too close to Maric for me. But I agree about his left foot crossing - Bex in the mirror.

What a game. I'm just trying to get my breath back here in Ljubljana. The streets are a mixture of disappointment at the result and pleasure at the performance. For anybody who hasn't heard me banging on about Zahovic there's more to come from him. For me Pavlin was the key player: when he ran out of steam so did Slovenia. Karic had the game of his life. He's better known here for getting booked all the time. We mustn't let Zahovic go to Spurs. Bobby did sign him for Porto, after all.

Just when I was recovering from wondering how England could let a 2 goals advantage slipped, Then came Slovenia. 3-goal, 1 man advantage with 15 minutes to play and they let it slipped big time.
