Poole,

How can "one" respond?

A Lot Of Work! Poole!

Good job!

-- -- -- (hole@dust.com), June 13, 2000.

The cartoon characterization of Paula Gordon is when it went over the edge for me. The "essay" is like what a People or National Inquirer account of post-rollover Y2K news would be.

It's long on people, but short on ideas.

Talking about other people is easy. The hard part is trying to figure out the relative importance of various factors in explaining the smoothness of the CDC. Was it the amount of money spent on Y2K? Was it the efficacy of fix-on-failure? Did more companies "go manual" at rollover than we realize? Was Y2y something that never could have caused significant problems, even if efforts had not been made to fix it?

I'd like to hear more about ideas and less about people in the discussion about Y2k.

I, too, would like to see the same type of further discussion as to why the CDC was the apparent non-event that it apparently was. P.S. to Anita S.-- sorry I was "testy" with you in some of those final testy moments of Y1.999.... And to my "other" "doomer" (or formerly doomer on-line "friends"), I "still" get to eat crow [am fed crow] from spouse every time the subject of "Y2K" even comes within a mile of here. . . . ;-) Best luck to all; epecially to those still eating cold leftover crow sandwiches. . .

Stephen,

Excellent work, sir, as usual.

The axiom: "He who laughs last..." proven, once again.

Vindicated Regards,
Andy Ray

In addition, the update to your page is appreciated. I honestly believe these doomers, having exhausted the existing two sides of their mouths, are now seeking to exhibit an unprecedented third face - surely an historic accomplishment...

Vindicated (and amused) Regards,
Andy Ray

Stephen:

How is it that you can give a detailed, historical Y2K perspective, and yet fail to mention the influence of the notorious "meme"? Or do you just revert to meme-speak when you go off your medication?...

Curious regards,

-- WD-40 (wd40@squeak.not), June 13, 2000.

Stephen:

I was a bit disappointed in the latest, but can't blame this on YOUR ability. There's simply a lack of ammunition these days, and even the few remaining who think Y2k is STILL affecting systems have already been discussed in previous issues.

Dewer!:

I never found you to be testy. As I recall, you volunteered to eat crow to satisfy our bet, and I told you there was no need. As far as I'm concerned, you bet on one horse, never insisted I was a fool for not betting on the same horse, and stood up like a man and admitted your error each time your horse didn't win. I'm glad to see you on this forum. We discuss a lot more than Y2k here, and you've got lots of good thoughts.

WD-40:

I think you have Stephen mixed up with someone else. I've known his online persona for quite some time, read all the previous States of Y2k, and I never found him to use the meme as a blanket excuse.

Formerly Dewer Die,

Admirable attitude. Kudos on your sincerity, intellectual integrity, and credibility.

What part does one have to "figure out"? ZIPPO "happened". Those "studying" such things have only the demented posts on GICC and "Glitch Central"'s collection of mostly Non-Y2k related HEARSAY. Go to a Feb shot Poole took and see he is merely repeating himself. LINK

http://www.jediknight.com/~smpoole/fix0200a.html It therefore calls into question the Pre-1/1/2000 "analysis" from the Doom Stars of the Net. And the subsequent, "I was wrong but (enter excuses here)" or the sweeping under the carpet of your Church leader "The" Ed Yourdon, "35 year expert" and writer of a Doom book. Now he simply declares "Y2k is over" and btw, don't bother me anymore I'm now a consultant on E-business, security, as you will find if you "go to my site" (replete with his "favorite books" all linked nicely for referral fees to where else Amazon. He learned that little trick long ago and if you doubt it refer to his being "satisfied with the traffic" on EZ WasteOfTimeBomb2k).

It is important that the Y2K celebrities like Gordon, Hamasaki, and Yourdon be hung out to dry on a regular basis. This will hopefully result in the remaining lemmings thinking for themselves the next time an Internet fed disaster descends upon us. Those who would ignore historywell you know what I mean.

Poole, you crack me up!

(had to come out of lurker mode to tell ya..."Good Job!")

Andy Ray,

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!

There, I laughed last. Naaa, naaa, naaa, naaa, naaa, naaaa.

FWIW, I was not a doomer. I just don't like yer 'tude.

Poole, another great work. I "like yer 'tude."
