Well, I'll have to admit, I do like Digimon. But only the first 2 seasons with the 8 kids. This new thing with Guilomon and such is boring. I've lost interest in it. Monster Rancher is just another rip- off. Dragon Ball Z is great though. I've seen the whole series, and I still like it. But after you see it all, you get bored, and have to look at other anime. There's tons of great anime out there. There's Cowboy Bebop,Trigun, Rurouni Kenshin (aka Samurai X), and so many more. I'm glad z made first, because I just can't stand Gundam wing, no offense fans.

I agree that the un-cut versions of shows like sailor moon (ect) are much better than the cut versions. The Sailor Moon on Cartoon Network is much more of a kiddy show than the original. They cut out important parts of the show (like when they die and stuff) its irritating to know that you are missing some good stuff!(if you actually watch the dub that is) The Sailor Moon dub is so overly Americanized---they even change the names of Japanese foods to American names! I love the un-cut subs tho. What about Ah! My Goddess? That one is pretty good if ya like romance. I like Tenchi tho the editing and dubbed voices make it sorta lame which is why I got the DVD Box sets so I could watch it the way anime is meant to be watched----Un-cut and in Japanese language!

Most people in America do not know just how many animes there are out there...it is true that dbz and gundam wing are pretty popular...gundam wing especially since large robot fighting started ever since Macross (Robotec for america). I have a bunch of favorites, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Lain, Ah! My Goddess, Love Hina, Ranma 1/2, Trigun, Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the Shell and the 2 Vampire Hunter D movies (man i wish they mad a series...oh well) I wish they could show these things on Toonami, unedited and subbed, but that is an immpossiblity at the moment. WOW, there is a lot of cartoon network fans here. Im not a huge fan of any kids animes, but i must say at least DBZ looks good in the music video form. Im not big on television series, just the feature length stuff, and so far ive seen about 30 movies/short miniseries. Vampire D: bloodlust, Ninja Scroll, Macross Plus (#1-4), and Princess Mononoke are the best ive seen so far. In fact the only anime ive ever seen that i didnt like was "Sword For Truth," but thats not what this forum is about. ok, some of u r taking this way too seriously. it's not right to make people feel stupid and ashamed just because they haven't seen the real stuff. Though it is good to make suggestions of anime series people can watch. Some of you may be able to waste money like nothing, but some people can't afford these original animes and some people live somewhere that has nothing in their towns. I do disagree with the dubbing of well-thought anime series, though, such as Cardcaptor Sakura and Cardcraptors( I think that name suits it better^_^) The original show was very beautiful and they didn't really have to cut out most of the scenes. I think the people who dub this over-react a little bit too much. It makes they 2 shows completely different. It's sad. This just one of the original animes that go from best to bathroom build-up.(Cardcraptors is probably the worst dubbed series ever)I think they should show the originals with subs (i know most of u said that). Most of the dubs are for six year old boys and tend to make it look like all they episodes r the same thing (and some of them are! ^^') If anyone wants to talk to me about anime or anything in general, please FEEL FREE TO E-MAIL ME! cuz I love talking to people(as long as they have something good to talk about) If you're wondering why i'm typing so much, it's that i'm making up for all of the days no one has written, tee hee. DBZ is pretty popular. Neon Genesis and DBZ are my favs both emotional.(DBZ CAN get emotional) Evangelion has got a more complicated plot though. I thought DBZ was an absolutely gay and pathetic program until some friend of mine got me to watch a few episodes (which at first was torture) found out it isn't always about grunting and defeating baddies. It had great character development and lessons were learned (Gohan's ssj2 moment was cool) Evangelion has the most cool plot. Ranma is cool too. Naruto kicks all their combined asses.

Not that I don't like them, but Gundam Wing and Dragon Ball Z are to much about one person being ultra-powerful (or a group). Thats why Dragon Ball is better as well as 08th MS Team.

Monster Rancher is ok, haven't seen much of the anime though, just Monster Rancher 2 for the PS (which I love).

Digimon was a pretty cool anime, the card game was icky though.

Pokemon is alright. People say it sucks without reason, which is more reason to like it for an anti-conformist. However I also enjoy its sweet cuteness and because unlike most shows, it doesn't resort to massive amounts of violence (one fight, about 30 eps [DBZ] total). Put what you say about Pokemon in context to Sesame Street, they aren't made for you, they're made for little kids that should be learning about teamwork, fair play and such, not made to think they can kick anyones butt by charging up and blasting them in the face with ki.

The DragonBall series(es.?) of Anime is the most popular of the animes in Japan and France...and maybe USA but this country's kinda screwy...and I personally enjoy it. I probably wouldn't have gotten into it if I didn't see Piccolo the first episode (found him hot right off the bat). Soon after the series stopped (the first time) I began downloading the rest....and was suprised at how much better the Japanese episodes were.(not kid show...hell the part about Krillin being stabbed by Freeza was atleast 15 minutes longer). The manga is good too. One problem with the anime itself is that its too long (Bird Studios knew they had to keep a good thing up and run out) so the fight scenes run through several episodes. Akira Toriyama is a great artist, and very revered in Japan really....

By the way...I really doubt a lot of you are about 15 but that's my opinion...such ranting such ranting.......

(YES I LIKE OTHER ANIME!!..Gundam Wing would be so much better if Heero killed Reliina and commited suicide like he was trying to do in the first place...)

Tis true i'm currently confined to only viewing cartoon network's dubs at the moument. But that doesn't mean i haven't watched anything else, i'm not going to get worked up about this by trying to list ever single anime i've seen. Dragon Ball Z is okay, they just strech out the battles a *little* too long but i love it none the less...super saiyians yay. Gundam Wing is pretty good, infact i like all the gundam series. But monster rancher? I don't even think that is a anime. I hated it and the only character i liked was tiger because he looked cool. The Never-Ending Rant-(April 21st) The Never-Ending Rant

Dragonball Z Has Become a Joke by Ira Goldberg Issue VII - April 21st, 2000 Browsing through the local mall yesterday, I came upon a realization that truly made me sick that related to anime, Dragonball Z has become simply a joke.

Many of us agree on the fact that Pokemon is simply a disgrace to most anime in that it was simply created to market a video game that Nintendo created. Pokemon has succeeded beyond anyone's expectations. But what happened to Dragonball Z.

Upon entering any store, not only will one be bombarded with Pokemania, a new fad has come in from Japan, DBZ. There are now action figures, cards, and other chatchkas all over stores in the US trying to pull off a similar success on one of the most legendary anime sagas ever to be produced.

Its been a gradual journey for DBZ gaining popularity. One could argue it was reaching its apex just before the "new episodes" were released in the United States, ushering in a new wave of DBZ with new voice actors. Most of you know my opinion on their job. Nevertheless, why has the target for all this DBZ merchandise become the same group targetted for Pokemon?

The whole reason for Dragonball Z's popularity was due in fact to the mass of teenagers and the younger ages of Generation X watching it, not the lucritive Britney Spear's loving market of little kids. Yet now we're bombarded with commercials for super-action Goku's that fire energy balls that look more like decrepid eggs. Something just doesn't compute here.

Cartoon Network is starting to get the point and is pushing DBZ through the roof and complementing it with other anime series. It is now flanked by Ronnin Warriors and the legendary Gundamm Wing, another anime gaining popularity in the US. Sailor Moon was dropped for Thundercats and it seems like action Anime is coming into its own. Cartoon Network even now offers to show the uncensored episodes at 12 in the morning.

But the problem of DBZ is still there. Dragonball Z is a very violent anime and the main concept is people constantly killing each other in a true battle of good vs. evil. This show was never meant for little children. Company's are now banking on the fact that these little kids won't understand what the hell death is just so long as Goku wins the fight and don't give a crap why he does. Hell Piccolo is despised by these kids and he's one of the "good guys." Piccolo may be the most realistic character in the series in that he isn't good nor evil by the time the "new episodes" were released.

My solution: Keep throwing Pokemon in our faces. Don't corrupt DBZ. Hell, you can create a whole 150 and more to see as long as I don't have to go into anywhere besides a Suncoast video and see DBZ action figures all over the place. Pokemania may have been bad, but it wasn't destructive. This new campaign to usher in the new Pokemon in the form of Dragonball Z is simply wrong.

PLEASE READ ALSO THIS (BEFORE YOU SAY ANYTHING BAD OBUT DBZ) Censorship Killed DBZ by Ira Goldberg Issue VI - March 26th, 2000 To be honest, I have never seen any of the uncensored episodes of Dragonball Z, let alone the Japanese ones in their rarest form. I don't really have the drive nor the pocket to buy the episodes on tape. Nonetheless, one thing is apparent; censorship destroyed the anime characteristic of Dragonball Z in America.

For some reason, DBZ is reaching new heigts of popularity but its true meaning is dropping near the level of classifying it as the teenager's Pokemon, which I would like to point out was only created to sell more video games in the first place. The unedited version of DBZ has moments that truly convey emotions of the characters, the likes of which we never get to know in the dubbed Funimation series because of the censorship. We never learn of the true anguish that all of the Z-fighters endure as time progresses and their coping with death.

The best example in the series is the death of Yamcha. In the unedited films, Yamcha's body, along with everyone elses body, does not dissappear. In fact, he is shown quite often throughout the entire series. When Krillin hunches over his fallen comrades body, which I will not when Krillin is shown on Roshi's TV is apparently holding something in his arms while in the hole, we don't get a true idea of whats going on. Yamcha's death is the death of innocence and the realizaton that the good guy doesn't always win. Things go wrong, terribly wrong. Krillin's utter rage taken out on the Saibamen and the two Sayans only manages to prove effective against most of the green men and thus further advances this notion of thigns not always being easy.

Another terrible travesty is the battle between Goku and Vegeta where you just don't seem to understand how monumental the battle is because you don't see any bruises or blood on either Goku or Vegeta's face. The two beat the hell out of each other and are struggling to win so badly and it is a classic battle of good versus evil.

On the other hand, Funimation has made some concessions and the moer recent episodes, despite terrible voice acting, give a better feeling of the whole situation. The death of Krillin could have been done a little better than just showing a cloud of smoke, but the anger of Goku is portrayed so well. The blood pouring out of everyone, especially Goku and Frieza serves more than just the blood and gore appeaser, but the true test of an ultimate battle of two mega powers attempting to defeat the other for the fate of the entire galaxy on a doomed planet.

My point being, somethings should be censored. Quite frankly, I don't care for the blantant sexuality and nudity in it. I don't really think Master Roshi and Oolong being perverts really serves any real basis for a support. I don't think it truly matters about some of the things put in there, but there is in an artistic part to anime and Funimation destroyed it, at least the Sayan saga.

One: Some of the animes are made for children in Japan. 2: There are some animes made for older teens. 3: I've seen an anime that outstrips DBZ and others in terms of popularity. That anime is..... Well, I think there are many great anime out there but many get overlooked. NGE or Neon Genesis Evangelion is cool mech action if you like Gundam Wing (THE DUBBING SUCKED ASS! DBZ is just a little more popular than pokemon and gundam wing. No disputing that, all sales figures show that it is correct. Most of this comes from the fact that anime isnt being marketed to anyone outside of the 6-13 yo bracket inside the states.

Some of the better series aimed at this bracket are CCS (clamp), Abenobashi (gainax), Tokyo Mew Mew, Bakuto Sengen Daigander and Full Moon Wo Sagashite, and are quite watchable by other audiences aswell, due to their excellent writing.

Ofcourse, my current favourites are: the .hack saga, Scrapped Princess, anything Digi Charat, E'S OTHERWISE, Uchuu no Stellvia, Seikai no monshou and sequels, Ashita no Nadja, Saishuheiki Kanojo, Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto, and Piano.

Actually Yu-gi-oh is geared towards TEENS AND ADULTS not chidren because of its dark story lines and Pokemon (Pocket Monsters) is geared towards EVERYONE from kids to people as old as 50 watch Pokemon in Japan! I am 15 and like Pokemon so you guys do not know what you are talking about. Last time I saw a ratings chart for anime in Japan "Prince of Tennis" was number one Pokemon was 3 AND the dubbed version (which they do show in Japan) was 5 and Yu gi oh was 8 this was just like two weeks ago. If you have not seen the original Yu gi oh and Pokemon in Japanese then you don't know how much better they are in Japanese! In yu gi oh they cut all guns, blood,profanity, and sexuality out of it. In Pokemon they cut guns, sexuality/cross dressing, emotional scenes,profanity and more because in AMERICA those are chidrens only shows. My personal favorite animes are: Tenchi Muyo/Universe, Sailor Moon, Rurouni Kenshin, Yu-gi-oh, Pocket Monsters, Evangelion, and more!

You people don't watch much anime that is made for anyone other than little children. They have no plot development and retarded character interaction. There are so many anime series and OVA's out there that are much better than any of the shows that you are all talking about. I admit that DBZ was one of the first that I saw, but it's like all the characters are constipated, at least in the American version. I watched Pokemon when I was in sixth grade and liked it, but as I matured I found that it wasn't very good in many aspects. Here is a list of some good anime that not every child should see but an avid anime fan should: Ruroni Kenshin: TV and OVA series (one of my favorites), Bubble Gum Crisis Tokyo 2040, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Blue Submarine # 6, Gasaraki, Generator Gawl, Evagelion, Macross Pluss, The Record of Lodoss War, Tenchi, Outlaw Star, Akira, Berserk, Vampire Hunter D, and many others. Many of these aren't for the weak of stomach and have inappropriate content for younger viewers, nontheless they are very good.

If you havn't seen at least two of these then you can't call yourself an anime fan. These are the best out there.

I can't make my mind up if end of evangelion is better than the last two eps. it's much more action orietated, though, and whilst creating more questions it does answer alot of the ones formed in the course of the series. Don't get it confused with the other eva movie (Death:Rebirth). The "death" part is just a summary of the series and the "rebirth" part is the beginning of "end of evangelion".

I was just looking up and down this page and have come to the conclusion that almost every body on here has to be completly insane. Since when have pokemon, digimon, monster rancher, yu-gi-oh, card captors and dragon ball z (there i said it) been even considered as high quality, mature anime viewing. I cant even bring myself to call them anime. Pokemon: A poor quality tv series built on a craze, that has long since died, that involved paying large sums of money for game cards. Was a orinally a good (*shudders*) gameboy game. Digimon: A pokemon clone trying to develop a similar craze (you have to be blind if you can't see that). Monster rancher: (see digimon). Yu-gi-oh: another show based around collectables. Card captors: (see yu-gi-oh) Dragon ball z: this is the best of the crap in my opinion. The animation is shoddy. The plot is samey, dull, repetative and so on. The battles are too long and are mostly unexciting, the bits inbetween battles are just that, stalls - wasting time 'till the next battle. Anyone who claims that these are good anime shows has obviously not seen any (that's any - A N Y) real anime shows or have no brain or understanting of higher plot or good animation. People should open there eyes to classic anime and not just talk about the mainstream crap. I refuse to accept any return arguement from any body unless they have seen Akira (because anyone who likes anime has seen that movie).

The person who just posted before me seems to be a good example of the viewers of a lower interlect (the ones who watch DBZ and so on) and thus is unlikely to understanding any of the things that make Eva great (such as the realistic characters, deep story line, well thought-out research into religous history) other than the battle scenes. No offense to DBZ fans but I used to luv it, but then I realized Toonami is focusing on DBZ and even showed uncut. That pissed me off like hell. Show some other stuff. Remove it once. Replace it with something else. Stop showing crappy marathons and put back some other stuff. They pulled this off lots of times and Toonami did lots of crap. Some fans will get sick of it and move on to others. But the best animes would be Gundam Wing, Rurouni Kenshin, Escaflowne, CCS, Saior Moon, YYH, and DBZ(it still is good, but don't foret Dr. Slump!) I am ok with dubs and cuts but Toonami and that Tom guys pisses me off!

I can't believe i took the time to read all that shit.

Dragon Ball Z: This is okay. The saiyans are cool but the long battles through me off. Why do you freakin' need 30 episodes for one battle? Its just stupid. And theres no plot..except to talk like a pro wrestler and then beating people up. Like i said..its okay in its own way

Gundam Wing: ..Never seen the series m'self so i can't comment on it. But i've seen a couple from the gundam series and they're all good. Except for this "SD Gundam" thing they're showing on toonami right now *shudder*

Monster Rancher: Is this a anime? I've heard its just a american cartoon. Well..i hate this anime, its stupid and the only character i liked somewhat was tiger 'cauz he looked cool.

Digimon: Oh my freak, why do you think digimon is shit? Now pokemon is shit (though the video games where somewhat fun ..good times..good times). Pokemon you have these cute lil innocent creatures running around with a plot that repeats yourself. I can mention a pokemon episode title and already know that it'll have team rocket blasting off again with a *ping*. Now digimon season 1-3 is ok (its not the best anime created and its not the worst). How could you say that its not a anime~!!! Anime is any japanese cartoon, is it not? Digimon is anime, i've seen the original. Digimon Frontier is shit. My favorite anime shows are (in no order) Cowboy Bebop, Love Hina, Gundam Wing, Furi Kuri (It's a shame it's so short), Escaflowne, Chobits, and G.T.O. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I'm glad that (most of us) live in a world that allows it (Though I'd prefer some people to simply keep their opinions to themselves). Don't really see why you like dubbed, but eh, everyone has their own preferences I suppose.

While I do have to agree, among those who watch only TV (Because they are ignorant of other means, don't like them, or simply cannot access them) DBZ is indeed fairly popular. Does that mean it's very good? Not really. I've seen all of the dub, through CN, and most of the sub, through renting and other methods. Same stuff, sure there are some very minor things that are taken out of the dubbed on CN, such as names, voice actors, deaths, etc, but it's all still, generally, the same thing. Bunch of non-interesting storyline, followed up by fighting, this fighting taking an extraordinary amount of time to proceed, since entire eps can be spent with the characters simply talking, thinking, or looking around. After the fighting is finally over, it goes back to the dull storyline, and then goes right back to the fighting. The battles are decent, when actual fighting is going on. Are they the best I've seen? For TV, yes, they pretty much are. Overall, everything included? Not even slightly. DBZ is not a bad anime, it just went on for too long. 200+ eps of repeating is not very fun, considering the only thing that really changes is their power levels, or that they can ascend to different levels of SSJ (Which is something else that is fairly annoying). Considering that Goku could blow up a planet, effortlessly, by the end of the Frieza (Freezer) Saga...it really seemed pointless to go on from there.

Dunno, that's just my opinion. Yeah, it is popular...but it just seems that it gets far too much attention, whilst other things which are better than it, are left to rot in it's shadow (Once again, this only applies to those who those can only watch what comes on TV, and not rent, or do otherwise.)

Actually, I'm not completely clear on why I like dubs better. Let's just say that I feel more "comfortable" with normal voices. Also, Japanese is a very fast language, making the subs hard to read. This is my opinion, since I've seen both the subbed and dubbed versions of Spirited Away. Lol, I even saw Princess Mononoke in complete Japanese, no subs or anything. That was very hard to understand.

Well I think my fav anime show is Escaflowne.....but I dont really lik DBZ all dat much.....but I do like Monster Rancher...Genki(dont kno if I spelled dat rite) is really funny. Ohh Akira is AWESOME! u ppls should at least see it even tho its old.....see BESERK way wicked. Oh and Anime Queen Naruto is about a young boy who wishes yo become shinobi(great fighter) but he has alot of trials along the way since he is lazy,brave, bold and always likes to show off. And plus he has the spirit of a nine tailed demon fox in his body who the elders sealed in him as a baby. Hmmm, stuff for new peoplez... If you like action/comedy: Ranma 1/2, Inuyasha, Slayers, Read or Die, Vandread, Trigun, Naruto, Nadesico... If you are a deep thinker: Evangelion, Serial Experiments Lain, Perfect Blue... If you like serious action: Akira, Curse of the Yoma, Samurai Deeper Kyo... If you like magical girls: Card Captor Sakura (Cardcaptors), Sailor Moon... If you like love stories (Kawaii): To Heart, Boys Be...

These are just a few titles to get anyone started. (Ok, so maybe its more than a few! :D ) I would recommend looking up some reviews for them on the web before buying any though, but I enjoy all of them.

listen, you obviously went lookin fon an anime forum, you found one and I'm glad you voiced your opinion, however you seem to have lost the point of the whole thing, we are here to debate which anime we like the best (ninja scroll 4 anyone who cares). I like anime because alot of time and effort goes into makeing each and every episode/movie with percision, skillful artwork, and sometimes amazing ideas. It's not just the chicks, because this is what your post led me to believe, and not everyone goes on about funimation all the time or anything else like that so back off and keep your ideas to yourself. besides you only mentioned three or four different anime shows when in actual fact there are thousands. find a store with a broad japanese anime rental department and actually take the time to look around. You might just see something you like.

I think the best anime (for me) is Angelic Layer, Sugar ~tiny snow fairy~, slam dunk, Daa!daa!daa!, hunter x hunter, one piece (call they Crazy), Gundam Wing, Fruit Basket, Noir, D N Angel, Comic Party, Rurouni Kenshin (the song is very very best), Inuyasha (the song is very cool except Dearest) but my most best anime for me at this time is GUNDAM SEED!!! Songs very very very best, Lacus is SO SO SO cute!! Cagalli too... and Kira and Athrun so so so cool!!!! Monster Rancher? I like the song.

Doozo yoroshiku, To summarize this forum. EVERY ANIME RULES! (whatever the hell it means to rule). and likewise, EVERY ANIME SUCKS! Possibly, one might consider that the boundaries of anime are just as broad as an American's idea of cable television. Some anime better fitted to an age group or a type of person, etc... All of these ignorant criticisms of anime are based upon limited knowledge of the subject as a whole. Nearly every person that has posted a comment in this forum is a limited American or a child. Some anime are more fitting for different people. Many anime are useless series that should have never been created. Some anime are only tokens used to generate profit. If you are victim to this propaganda and still enjoy it then please continue to enjoy yourself. Your money is buying me more good anime. ;) Amerika-jin!

Hmmmm....Thinkin' of an Anime that lasted over 10 years, accumulated over 400 episodes, 17 theatrucal movies and 2 television specials were made of the series as a whole, created by a MASTER Manga-ka of both humor and seriousness, the Manga lasted 42 Tankuban, Anime's been translated into TONS and TONS of languages across the globe and is always a phenominon, the English version SUCKS LIKE NOTHING HAS EVER SUCKED BEFORE (Even Cartman as the Vietnamese prostitute Ming Li), but is STILL incredibly popular, is NOT ABSOLUTELY NOT FOR LITTLE KIDDIES (Unless you watch FUNimation's Ming Li suck version), and seriously, WHO DOESN"T KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT YET?! DRAGONBALL!!!!!!! Am I saying it cuz it's my fave anime of all time? Perhaps. But can you tell me another Anime that has accomplished the stuff I stated above? Didn't think so. Also, Yuu Yuu Hakusho, Inu Yasha, Rurouni Kenshin (I swear to God the Heavenly Father Above that Rurouni Kenshin's edited dub on Toonami is the BEST EDITED DUB OF ANYTHING EVER, and no I don't mean I only have seen the dub version I just wanna point out that FUNimation could learn from those guys), Flame of Recca, Pocket Monsters (In Japanese at least, the dub SUCKS MAJOR AS DOES YU-GI-OH! and YGO is a disgrace to anime), and the poor Furi Kuri that needs more credit, also rock!!!!! Furi Kuri may well be the best anime ever..........if it made any sense. It still rocks and nobody should pass up seeing it, especially us random wierdos (we know who we are). Well, I haven't seen a lot of the Anime people have listed but I've heard of many of them, and I wanna see them but I have no access to them. However, these are my personal faves but seriously, find me another series that has done what Dragonball has. You may love it, you may hate it, you may not care either way, but ya gotta admit-it may be the greatest anime of all time. And this will sound retarded cuz I've never seen it, but never forget the first anime, the one that started it all-Tetsuwan Atom. I've said my part, so I'm out. Itekimasu!
