He sat there between Gabby Yorath (Toon fan) and Venison and just looked so awkward. He did pick him for hsi England X1, but with the rider that that is because he was the man in possession rather than because he had a great season. It was potentially really cring-making because they then did a satellite interview with Alan. But - surprise surprise - there was none of the usual chummy banter back to the studio whcih would have been just too hypocritical. I am amazed Gullit is taking the position of commentator. He can't win with Shearer. If Alan scored a hat-trick, Gullit will look like a burk and all praise would sound odd. Similarly, if SHearer effs up, he can't really put the knife in without coming across as 'told you so' idiot.
