Jacksonville NRHS center

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

Several years ago there was a push on in the Jacksonville (FL) area by the local NRHS chapter to establish a 'Rail historical center' that would include prototype historical data and equipment from all Jacksonville rail affiliates (FEC, GS&F, SR, ACL, SAL, JT, etc....). There were two sites being looked at and site plans were drawn and regularly displayed. Does anyone out there know the status of these plans, who is spearheading them and generally, what's going on with them? It was an exciting endeavour, but I have heard and seen nothing of it for the last year or so. MVH

All I am aware of is that the local chapter (North Florida) has a collection of equipment at the old SAL West Jax yard site. It includes ex-ACL GP7 100, an ex-ACL M-5 caboose and RPO car, and several other pieces. The chapter also has an exhibit car with photos and memorabilia displayed inside.
