I went to the ER weekly news page and I thought maybe some would like to hear about them.

First, this is from a week or two ago, but I just got around to writing it now. They said that the ER season finale got mixed reviews; that some thought it was an excellent way to end a better year, but mostly they posted about the bad reviews, about how the writers felt desperate to pick up their ratings by throwing GC in at the last minute for SSS and they made fun of Carter's drug addiction story, which they seemed to see as too far fetched and soap opera-ish. I understand that there will be some people who just do not enjoy ER, but I really thought that the reviews were unfair...of course ER will throw in some hard core drama to get their ratings up, because it worked and I think the Carol leaving/return to Doug storyline and the 'what is going to happen to Carter' storyline got people very interested again. It wasn't soap opera-ish. EVERY show is like that. It's TV, why does ER always have to be 100% realistic and like the "real world"? It's not.

Also, they mentioned this week that the writers DO happen to listen to the fans, that one of them was actually quoted to say that they get emails about things that are going on on the show, and they know what people are saying on chat rooms (like this one), and they wonder the same things we are wondering. THey used the Carter/Lucy romance example. Half of the fans really wanted them to get together and others said it woudl be a horrible idea. So they were just as confused and decided to take it somewhere, but not all the way (though they did a bad job with this...1st they had them kiss and then they decided 'no this isn't right, and then that was it) I jsut thought everyone would like to know that they DO hear what people are talking about.

Last thing, they mentioned that there was a lot of upset about the alleged news that Eriq Pallidino was going to be the next to leave. Maybe if they know, they will decide to try harder to keep him.

Just to clarify a few things about my post, after going to the site again, they didn't really say that the GC return was desperate, rather some critics said it just reminded them how good ER used to be and how it is mediocre now (which is what the writers feared) and another wrote that GC return was as "unwelcome as a cold scalpel" THey also commented on the Doug look alike, aka, Luka, and insulted the bore of the Greene/Corday romance (which I disagree with)

There was also a mention that the actors may be under an agreement that they cannot change their hairstyles, like that NW may not be allowed to chop his hair off again. Anyways, to see the thing on the mixed reviews, you have to go to the link 'last week's news' or something like that.

Also, I was going to say that ER doesn't come close to being like a soap opera! (thank God!) Nobody on ER has ever died and come back to life, developed amnesia, wondered who the father of the baby was, or been married 10 times! I think they do a good job, most of the time, of doing realistic type storylines on there. Of course some things are going to be over-dramatized or played up for the sweeps months, but it's a TV show! They are all acting anyway.

It was interesting to find out that they read the forums. Although John Wells said "chat rooms" - I wonder if he meant discussion forums like this one? I had wondered if they even paid any attention.

On the theme of no-one in ER dying and coming back to life, what about Carol in the pilot? I know she didn't actually die, but all the medical commentaries I have ever read say that it would have been impossible for her to survive. I have to agree that Cleo should be got rid of, not Dr Dave...stupid as he may be, he's nowhere near as bad as Cleo! Did anyone see British Elle? It had interviews with Eric Palladino and Goran Visnjic and loads of pics.

I think these people are silly to take Erik Pallidino off the show! The only reason I even watch the show is because of him. I think that is pretty darn stupid to even think of taking that Hunkmeister away! They should take that one head doctor off, the short bald one, he gets on my nerves. I really hope they don't get rid of him. I think that show would be pretty darn dull without him and his wise- cracking character.

well, the 7th season finale was a darn good episode, about as good as they get, it had an underlying fear element of suspense which added a great deal of intensity to the episode, Dr. Greene had a great performance! Dr. Romano is the most original character on the show, he is frank, quick to the point and funny, and in a show where everyone is so sensitive, it is good to have a character like him. Hats off to Jack Orman and Joe Sachs, combining again, just like in "Exodus" in season four, each one them always write compelling stories. But as Frank said, guns don't kill people, people kill people, and that is true, the writers got a few anti-gun statements in their, but nothing to major, it was a great season finale, and i am not sure how they will explain Dr. Greene murdering that man! can't wait until next October.

My sister-in-law had a good point that many hospital elevator have cameras (as a result of disturbed people stealing newborns, drug seekers, ...) and that the incident would be on tape. The Dr. Greene storyline will then become a legal saga as Mark attempts to avoid prison (plausible despite the video if using a temporary insanity defence or spinning the effects of his brain surgery to explain the crime.) Then again, the finale only shows attempted murder, the story could pick up with Dr. Green panicking and then reviving the killer. But what is stated above would still apply. Some thoughts I thought to share

I am curious about something. As I can recall, I think that ER usually operates on real time during the summer, they don't just pick up in the Fall where they left off in the Spring. Like when Carol was pregnant: one season ended when she had just found out she was having twins and the when the next season started she was several months further along. Same with Carter in rehab last year. I was just wondering how this one will work out like that. I can see them glossing over what Mark did, but it is hard for me to imagine that Abby and Carter will just have a suspended relationship for three months, or that the thing with Peter and Cleo would be left unresolved. Any thoughts?

well, i think the thing with peter and cleo - an aids test can take up to six months to be confirmed, so in october, they could still be waiting for results. and, if they are going to actually turn this carter-leaving-county storyline into something, perhaps they will say he left for a test drive over the other hospital or something. if anything happens to mark, i would guess he would be awaiting legal consequences. but you're right, i think some or most of the things that happened in "rampage" would have to get tied up by backstory. maybe they will do what they did in season 3 (was that it? the one where they were having the 4th of july barbecue), have the premiere being one day during the summer.

My hope is they're gearing up for a big season for AE/Mark in his last season on ER. I've been worried they'd do to him what they did to JM, relegate her to a poor storyline all of her final season until a big finale, but the last scene of this season gave me hope they won't forget Mark during Season 8.
