Closed Season? Bah!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Remember before the end of last season, when I said how much I hated the closed season? The fact that all summer the club is linked to the names of exciting, interesting players, and it comes to nothing? We have a list of dross players that we hope will go, and the don`t? The only players that leave are ones that we should be keeping? Well, nothing`s changed - I still hate the closed season!

I also really want Big Al to play for England in Euro 2000, but am in a constant state of panic in case he`s injured!

I wait all summer to see if I have the chance of a season ticket, only to find that that`s not changed either.

But apart from that - it`s a blast! (:o(

Morning Galaxy [adopts the neutral tone of man who knows that he got very drunk last night with this lady sitting in his kitchen this morning and is trying to work out whether or not anything 'happened']. The real transfer merry-go-round won't be kicking in until after the major injuries during Euro2000 have been suffered. Everyone needs to sell in order to buy except Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool....a glance at the moves so far this Summer illustrate that fact fairly well.

As for getting a season ticket, there are almost definitely going to be loads available. Most of the people I know on the waiting list have already been sorted through taking the spares offered to moved season-ticket holders. Since nobody knows how many will be left, we've all taken steps to ensure that we won't be missed out. I promise there will be loads available on a match-by-match basis. The club even wrote this into the design (probably to excuse any gaps after they got the revised waiting list info back). The only thing which would push demand up would be a big signing and a great start to the season. There were tickets available to almost every game last season, so I can't imagine there being 15,000 slack to be taken up.

Anyway, last night when we were comiserating being knocked out of the playoffs, did we....

Mornin` Softie - you`re up early - alcoholic uplift perhaps! I think you`re safe - we remained within the bounds of common decency! I, of course, was only pretending to be drunk - purely a `comic` moment! (I didn`t have my second glass of wine `til much later!)(:o)

You are right, of course, I am jumping the gun and being a bit of a `moanin` Minney` this morning. Feel much better now! Still gutted about missing out in the Corinthians League though, but I`m hoping Euro 2000 will take my mind off it! (:o)

Ah, the eternal glory of football. Starting a new season on the same points as everyone else! I will be getting together with Jonno at the start of next week to run over the various options for the Corinthian League before publishing the new team selections etc.

I have to say, it`s an excellent competition! I can`t imagine where you find the time to run it. (:o)

Actually, once Scratchy and Ciara showed me the codes for html tables, the rest of it is fairly easy. If you set up all the templates for: games, fixtures, results and league tables, the erst is just copying the relevant columns from the master spreadsheet into the templates. Takes about 40mins - 1hour a day. Setting all the originals up took about 8 hours, so not a bad return and I enjoy doing it, but nice to know I'm not the only one :-)

Mornin' Softie, Galaxy and everybody else. Hope the hangover isn't terminal. (I once had a terminal hangover but it toppled over onto the floor and the IT manager wasn't very pleased).

Anyway, if you're gonna tweak the Corinthian league, may I suggest and added bit of realism. I dunno if you managed to sort out the inclusion of sound into your postings, but a few random chants might not go amiss.........

OK - I'm just about to put my anorak on before I leave.........

Morning boys - I'm playing cricket this afternoon - that'll make it p*ss down. 3 weeks ago I made a full 7 minutes - out 3rd ball and match abandoned after 1 over of our bowling.

See ya tonight
