I have been meaning to post a note about this for several weeks and I just now remembered. If there is a soul out there who has children and does not have the book "Goodnight Moon" often read by various characters on ER-- run out and get it. It has a musical quality to it that no other book has. I remember seeing Susan read it to get little Susie to go to sleep and I also remember one of the desk clerks reading it to a child in the hall on one epi. The entire book doesn't make a lot of sense but by the time you get to the end, your child will be a lot sleepier than when you began. Am I the only fan of this book??.....Goodnight to the old lady whispering, "Hush"!

Interesting thread... I know that I always read my little sisters to sleep with this book. I never thought it was a "big" book... I've never seen it on ER, either. That's interesting.

Yes, it's a very famous children's book, it's VERY simple, but for some reason the way it is written and set up it is became a very commonly used book. I didn't realize how cute it was 'til I read the book to a child. They've also used it in other shows.

We've read this book so many times that I don't even need to look at the words, and my son, who's 3 1/2, will jump in if I pause too long.

I love the scene with the desk clerk reading it in SSS. Something about this big, gruff ex-cop reading this charming book gave me goosebumps.

This is a wonderful, award-winning book. I loved the desk clerk, Frank, reading it, too! I don't think I agree that it doesn't make a lot of sense, though. The book makes an inventory of everything in the room (and what beautifully illustrated things they are!) and then the little baby bunny bids them all "good night." It is a different type of counting sheep, really. I also enjoyed the use of "Green Eggs and Ham" because they are both such classics and everyone can relate to them. Parents have read these books to their children, and the younger viewers remember their parents reading to them.

The lady who wrote Goodnight Moon also wrote Runaway Bunny. It is a great book too for all of you Goodnight Moon Fans.

So, can I mention another book to you folks since it sounds like a lot of you all read to your kids. Have you ever read The Giving Tree?? Every time I read it to kids, I cry. My personal, all time favorite is "Love You Forever" by Robert Munsch. I have given it to the mom-to-be at about 8 baby showers and there isn't one who is able to get through it without crying! I still well up occasionally when I read it to my 6 & 4 year-olds. It's both funny and sad... a terrific book to explain life & death cycles to children.

Another good book is "Nana upstairs, Nana downstairs". It deals with the death of a grandparent. I also cry everytime I read "I love you forever".

Emma..."I Love You Forever" is the best. I was going to mention it here too. I cry every time I read it to my sons. What a great idea for a baby shower gift!
