Elizabeth and Benton

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

I know a lot of people probably don't agree with me, but it is just so obvious that Elizabeth is still hung up about Benton. And in "May Day" it was so funny to see Cleo looking jealous.I think that this whole thing means bye bye Mark!

This has been discussed in previous threads extensively, but I kind of side with Steph. Part of it too is the epi or so before "May Day" when Cleo went around Elizabeth to Peter to get surgery for her teenage patient. Elizabeth mentioned their special relationship, and I didn't think she would have unless she still had a thing for Peter. I thought Mark was kind of a rebound in the first place and her real passion was and might still be with Peter.

I thought I read somewhere that Eriq disagreed with the whole interracial romance thing with Elizabeth and threatened to leave the show if TPTB did not find him an african-american love interest.

I don't think it is so much a "thing" for Benton as a "what might have been" thing concerning Benton. Everyone has those, it doesn't mean that you don't go on with your life. She was the one that suggested that they stop seeing each other and Peter didn't object. I don't see where he is losing any sleep over it. Elizabeth may still have feelings for him, but she also realized that he wouldn't be there for her emotionally, and she needs that. Maybe Elizabeth can't understand (like a lot of people) what in the world he sees in Cleo. Cleo doesn't seem like Peter's type, I can't see him with someone sneaky, and she seems that way to me. Cleo seems to know about Peter's history with Lizzy, why did she set them up for a confrontation. Peter needs to find a woman, but in my opinion it ain't Cleo or Elizabeth.

I actually think Cleo and Peter are a good match ... they're both cool, aloof, and have a major shell over their emotions! Elizabeth's too feisty and passionate for someone like Peter. I did think the best Peter-relationship on the show was with Jeanie, as he really seemed to care about her and showed emotion.

Okay, no, this does NOT mean "bye bye Mark" because they had just saved a kid from dying and were both on emotional highs after that. Peter and Elizabeth are just good friends, and I really think that Elizabeth and Mark love each other. They have the only mature, understanding relationship in the ER. Just look at them in "The Fastest Year," like when he was stealing supplies and Elizabeth knew how hard it was on him. The look on her face and the way she said, "Mark?" was all she had to do. And in "Loose Ends" how she came in and embraced him when he was looking through his dad's taxes and started to sob. They have a wonderful relationship. Sure, it doesn't have the pizzazz that Doug and Carol always did, but that is because it is much more healthy and right and mature than D/C were in the early stage. (And I am a MAJOR D/C fan, it's just that their relationship wasn't exactly *healthy* at first. It is now.) Just my opinion.
