Error disrupts 911 service in Wisconsin counties

June 7, 2000

Emergency 911 service was affected in five Wisconsin counties after a highway maintenance crew accidentally severed a fiber optic line near Danbury Tuesday.

Douglas, Burnett, Iron, Washburn and Ashland counties were affected in the outage, but service was restored by late Tuesday night, Superior police said.

As a contingency plan, the Douglas County Emergency Communications Center announced alternate emergency numbers on Twin Ports TV newscasts Tuesday.
