GSM phones are digital. Companies like OmniPoint and VoiceStream market 100% digital service in the USA, and others, like AT&T, offer it as an option in some areas. I'm not sure if they use GSM or another technology, but there is "a push on" to establish a single stardard.

"Normal" cell phones are safe, but there is more and more digital service every day.
