Eatonton and Madison Districts

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Central of Georgia Railway Historical Soc : One Thread

Recently i was taking pictures and railfanning on the former C of G Eatonton and Madison Districts. I was unable to take any pictures of any trains on either line. Can someone tell me what local or road-freights operate on either of these lines. Both lines are welded rail and seem to have a good amount of online business. Being an engineer for CSXT i am aware of the Harllee coal trains running on the Eatonton district between GA R.R. Jct and Plant Branch. Does Norfolk Southern run any coal trains on this line? Also i would like to know what power is used on these lines. About five years ago i saw three N.S. SD-40-2's tied up at the agent's office in Madison, GA. Does a crew go on duty at Madison, GA? If i remember correctly the only power i have seen on the Eatonton line was N.S. GP-38's and CSXT C40-8's. Thank for any help you can provide.

As information on the former Central of Georgia Athens line. It has come to my attention that the Madison District is up for sale or lease by Norfolk Southern as part of their recent line sale. The Great Walton Railroad headquartered at Social Circle, GA is one of the prospective operators. With the Georgia Pacific business at Madison, GA this could be very profitable for a short line. I will keep you'all informed of future developments. Justin Dzan
