Fuji FinePix 4700

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Hi,

I was wondering which camera I should get, the Fuji FinePix 4700 camera or the Nikon Coolpix 990? Any advice, suggestions, and tips would be appreciated. I like the Fuji for the megapixels, but are there any superior qualities of the Nikon that I am not aware of? Thank you!

There is a pretty big price difference between the two, and they suit different users. The Nikon is 3.3mp, with lots of manual controls, can accept add-on lenses and flashes, and is the serious hobbyists' delight. The Fuji is 2.4mp interpolated to 4.3 (with their Super CCD technology), does not allow as much manual control, and does not accept add-ons, but is really easy to use, and take great pictures unless you are comparing on screen at the pixel level.

Kirsten, be aware that the high megapixel claims of the Fuji are marketing BS. Get the Nikon (or any other true 3 megapix camera) instead.

The Fuji is amazing. I'm still amazed at the quality , sharpness and correct colors this baby does. I have tested several and this is a winner. Especially in auto mode , point and shoot it will give you great satisfaction. Only people who own a Fuji will acknowledge my saying. I wouldn't hesitate and go for the Fuji. If you want all the mambo jambo that you have on the Nikon it will take you 5 minutes before you've got all the manual settings ready by that time you're beautifull sunset would be allready gone. And the Nikon isn't that great in getting the right colours from the first time. You want proffesional and manual modes go by a Nikon F5. You want to enjoy digital go out and buy a Fuji.
