Answers

In response to question 2: I think that John's love for Tita far out-classed love as we define it in our culture. It was a sacrificial love willing to do whatever was required to make her happy. It was a love motivated out of caring for her as a person rather than just lusting for her as a sex object. I found it a refreshing reminder of what all loves should be: forgiving and sacrifical.
