Corinthian League Match 28

Match Number 28

19 December 1998, Leicester at SJP. The pre-Chrimble atmosphere in the pub was shot through with the horrible news that it was going to be Andrea and Baldy up front with Dunc and Al both on the sick list, and we were all concerned that they would fall over faster than we could get the ball to them. Fortunately we improved when Al came on in the second half and Glass used the extra space to score a beauty. 1-0 to the Mags.

Another triumph, more or less, by the mighty PLU. 4-0 down at half time we rallied in the second half and sobered up enough to score 4 to share the points. Generally not one of our best performances. Probably due to trans- european open top landrover procession displaying the cup to all and sundry. Happy daze as we passed the throngs assembled outside the Blake Arms at Seghill and on to regal banquet at Arighis (Ice Cream purveyors to the Stars) at Seaton Delaval. The freedom of Blyth (allowing us to graze our oxen in the Market Place) was bestowed during a moving ceremony at the Top House (Watering Place of the Stars) and featured a steak and kidney pie in the shape of Tony Greens smile. Passports at the ready we rejoined this happy breed and travelled South to Newton Aycliffe where we played a local team in an exhibition match. Unfortunately most of PLU misunderstood the true meaning of this, resulting in their detention for the night. This did not reduce the euphoria as we ate fried mars bars at Spennymoor prior to our final trip to the airport. Garlands festooned the runway behind the Golden Eagle as the hand painted Sopwith brought the conquering heroes home to a night of well behaved horseplay with a horse and a bottle of cream soda. A fitting end to a fabulous season. The Jerry Garcia Memorial Ground and Balti takeaway (Food fit for the Stars) has never looked so lovely in its new battle ship grey. We guarantee to have new bales in the hospitality box by the start of the new campaign. If only we can get rid of the horse.

Thanks for all your hard work Softie, you made a happy man very old.

Congrats to MinesaS&N Academicals for scoring what I reckon was the highest possible score under the rules for this match!

(I worked out what your team was!)

Actually Pilgrim, HTIN's grand total of 3 had a certain bearing on that scoreline: the manager's earlier announcement that he is making wholesale changes over the Summer didn't have the desired effect...

Another brilliant Heroes' welcome there. Loved it :-)

Oh dear, what a shame.....only a draw against top of the table opposition in Steph's Superstars......but six points behind the 13th place and two games left to play, (next up against Woodstock County) but with a much better goal difference than Borussia, who already hold that spot, but who have got a hard game against Min Accy..... gotta have hope, gotta have hope....

C'Mon Min and Barton!

Always the optimist, your loving friend ITK ;0)

Another good home thumping. 5-1...Ouch. There goes the playoff hopes for the Porkie Pies. Oh well, at least we are safe. A new stadium next season I think, apparently the pies at the Pie Dome are so delicious my players eat half a dozen before every game.

Roll on next season.

Pete

This club is just too hard to manage. I'm resigning my position so I can spend more time in pizza parlours.

Blaydon Racers

Applications for the position of Football Manager

The Blaydon Racers are currently looking for an experienced BBSCL manager to form part of a team focused on gaining promotion to the Premier League next season. The successful applicant will work along side former manager Geordie who has taken up the position of Technical Director of Excuses.

Oh come on, you're taking the piss now. 23 goals all season? You could hardly score less if you tried. Maybe that's the way to go. Here's my team for next season: Karelse, Beharall, McClen, Tomasson...oh forget it.

No mate, we're down...I blame Shearer (noting of course he doens't appear for TFKASS, but in this open season, why the hell not?)

I'm sorry Dan, the matches that came up were nearly all recent, and the old ones were the matches with unorthodox lineups. Sod's law says that if you change your approach it'll be 1995/6 games all the way next season.

If it helps at all, Ceptic had the worst possible lineup, and they have only done marginally better than yours :-) You also only sunk to a 3 last night...someone else managed a zero ;-)

I paid the price last season of letting nostalgia get the better of my teampick. As I suspect did Backworth, who were also languishing at the foot of the table for much of the season.
