Where is Midtjylland

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

A friend is off to see Bolton in 2 of 3 pre season friendlies in Denmark. One is against Midtjylland. The problem is that there isn't a place called that - we reckon its Mid Jutland in Danish.

Anybody know any more info ?

Josh - I could be wrong..................

..........but I would say that Midtjylland is in Wales (the double "ll" gives it away). The part of Wales that I have seen the most "little people" is that which is closest to Ireland. Therefore, if your friend should head for Anglesey, I don't think she'd be far wrong (I presume it's Sue???)

Please get her to send me a postcard.

Yes it's Sue - she was round at ours trawling the Net to try and find an answer.

If they're in Wales they've got a distance to travel coz they play in the Danish league. The only Danish sites I can find are for Copenhagen & Lyngby - they mention Midje whatsit as opposition.

The Danish tourist board have an excellent map on their site and there definitely ain't no place with that name.

Maybe they are the "other" team in a city, much like Everton, or one of the many London clubs.

Er no, Ciara. Methinks not. It could be where Mr D Wise cimes from.

No Ciara you`re not! At first I thought it was somewhere in Gullivers Travels, then I thought it might have been some sort of Scanddanavian theme park, like Leggo Land, but all about dwarfs!

The player called Pim Pong - please God, don`t ever let us sign him - he would never be taken seriously with a name like that.

Talking about mis-reading names - hands up all of you who see a van with `shopfitters` written on the outside, and think it says `shopliftters`!(:o)

Wasn't there a great naval Battle of Jutland during WWI?

Soft lad is bound to know this one! :-)

-- Anonymous, June 06, 2000

The great naval battle that never quite got going. Both sides using Dreadnoughts for the first time which had altered the whole balance of naval power, and neither side wanting to risk annihilation by committing fully. It was at best indecisive, but the German High Seas Fleet put back into Kiel and wouldn't come out to play with those rough British again, so we record it as a victory. I expect an outraged salty type to damn my eyes for talking down Admiral Jellicoe's finest hour in a minute, but I can live with the pressure :-)

Softie

You never let us down, do you :-)

As an aside...wor lass's old man (getting older each day) served on a destroyer in WW2 and was part of the Liberation of Norway (even got a certificate from King Olaf to boot). He's never been able to find anything out about the ship he was on, even when he went along to the VE Day commemorations. Would you have any info?

Blimey, a bit detailed for me Bobby, strictly an enthusiastic amateur. Although, I can feel the excitement of a bit of historical research coming on....:-)

Blimey its all danish stuff today isn't it. FC Midtjylland were formed recently when two pretty dire teams Ikast and Herning merged, hence the name not being a place in its own right. I know that they play at least some of their home games in Herning Stadium, if that helps.

tom? Another new poster? Great if you are and welcome - Apologies if you`re not! (:o)

Thanks Tom - Their web site even works better from home - we have Java disabled here. With a bit of navigation there's loads of stuff on there.

I'm still tickled by Pim Pong - how the hell a 17 year old lad from Ghana ends up in the Danish hinterland I don't know.

They've even got a webmaster that replies - Sue ain't going to be happy - it looks as though the game might have been canned.

Oops
