Jon-Jon was completely and utterly robbed. It made me sad.

i agree, jackie. i'd sop jon-jon up with a biscuit if i could, i love him so much. he was absolutely robbed.

I'm with the good looking and hard drinking Jackie D on this one. She urged me to read a bit of Jon-Jon today, I spent the rest of the afternoon doing no work. He is funny.

However, I was pleased Patrick picked up an award, because the standard of his writing is always excellent.

Yes, Jon-Jon's journal is wonderful, but all three of the journals nominated for "Best New Journal" are excellent. For me, it's almost impossible to decide which is "best," because they're different. By saying someone was "robbed," you're basically implying that the winner "stole" the award and didn't deserve it -- I personally think that all three who were nominated "deserved" it, and I could have voted for any one of them depending on what kind of mood I happened to be in that day. It's like apples and oranges. I'm not trying to be all Touchy-Feely-Buy-the-World-a-Coke here. That's just my opinion.

We had the largest number of votes for this quarter of the awards than ever before. But let me tell you folks that the number was still less than 20% of all journals on the web (open pages and non- open pages alike).

So, no, I don't think "robbed" is an appropriate word when it's something decided collectively. If it were just a team of people (like say the Academy), I'd agree. But the only reason someone doesn't win is because not enough people voted for them.

So...get out there and encourage journallers to nominate and vote!

Can only people named Jackie respond to this thread? It was my nickname in Jr. high, if that counts.

Jon-Jon's journal hasn't clicked for me yet, I'll take ya'll's word for it and head over there again.

Well, my name's not Jackie, but I stalked one for JournalProm, so I can post, yo.

I just wanted to let everyone know that Pamie was mistaken. She is *not*, I repeat, *not* out of the running for further Diarist.net awards.

The Legacy Award makes you ineligible for SITE awards only. Legacy winners may still win ENTRY awards. So, don't go crying in your beer because you thought you couldn't nom squishy anymore. You can. I know how relieved you all must be. (=

Erica, because of your surname we'll give you a special dispensation.

-- Anonymous, June 06, 2000

Ha ha, I'm not a Jackie and I'm posting! I'm posting!

-- Anonymous, June 06, 2000

OK, a secret: I think the Mighty Kymm is really overrated. I could never get into it, and I like Pamie much better.

My name begins with a "J" and so does Jackie, so I get to post. I love Jon-Jon. I don't read the other ones that were nominated for Best New Journal so I can't comment. I just wanted to say I love Jon-Jon. That's all. He cracks me UP.

I don't even follow them. After watching a lot of great journals never get anything, and the same ones get awards time after time, I gave up. NOT that I don't think Pamie deserves all the awards she gets!

An example: Once a journal got "Best use of Multimedia" when it didn't use any. *I* had better use of multimedia. Sheesh.

Well, I'm starting to archive all of my site updates (which are like little mini-journal entries) so that I can vote next time around. I'm just going to put a 'I'm not a journaller, but I'm pretending so I can vote in the diarist.net awards' disclaimer on every update, I guess.

-- Anonymous, June 07, 2000

i don't think that the use of the word "robbed" (in my post, anyway) was meant to imply that the person who did win the award did not deserve it. it is simply a figure of speech that i believe many people use when getting disappointing news. let's not get our panties in a bunch.

Why would you even say something like that, Andrea? It's a thread about the Diarist Awards, Kymm wasn't nominated for one, you seem like you're just deliberately going out of your way to be mean. I could understand it if the thread were "Which journallers do you think are overrated?"

Meh. I'm not the forum police, that just really bothered me.

Saundra, I'm with you. I don't think that this particular forum topic in any way invited that kind of response.

And putting it in smaller font doesn't make it any less rude.
