Upload to Canon S10 through USB or serial cable

How to upload images to your S10 with only USB or serial-cable (For those without CF-readers or PCMCIA-adapter)

1. Download the firmware upgrade from Canon's site. http://www.powershot.com/powershot2/update.html

2. Install it, and you should update your firmware, if you haven't done that already, but you don't relly need to.

3. In the folder where you unpacked the updater, create a new folder named "dcim"

4. In the dcim-folder, create yet another folder. Name that folder "300canon"

5. Copy the images you want to upload in here. Name them "img_xxxx.jpg", where xxxx is any number.

6a. In the update-folder, edit the file "Firminfo.txt" On the 3. line, under "Firmware Folder Name", remove the previous folder, and type in "dcim" instead.

6b. On the 2. line from bottom, below "CF Capacity(KB)", replace with "1" Save the file.

7. Connect your camera, set it to PC-mode and run "UploadFirmware.exe". Just click [Next] until it starts uploading

Good luck!

Restrictions/limitations: -------------------------

The folder in the upload folder, MUST be named 'dcim'

Images MUST be in a folder named "xxxcanon" in the 'dcim' folder. xxx can be any number from 100-998, and the last two digits must _not_ be 99, like 199, 299 etc.

Images MUST be named "img_xxxx.jpg", where xxxx is any number from 0001 to 9900.

The camera accepts JPEG only.

Images cannot be wider than 3200 pixels, or higher than 2400

Is it possible to upload other type of files (zip, mp3, ...) renamed to img_???.jpg to use S10 as mobile datastorage for future use on another PC? Is there any other utility to store such files onto CF card?
