is a Used nikon em 52mm worth purchasing?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I'm not familiar with camera equipment and would like to know if a Used Nikon EM w/50MM is worth purchasing. It doesn't have any papers so I'm not sure how old it is or what it's function capabilities are. It comes with an additional Zoom lens /f=80-205MM, no.725386 star-D MC Auto Zoom (made in Korea) How much is it worth, and how could I get papers ?

Linda, The Nikon EM was a VERY low line Nikon made in the late 70's or early 80's. I don't really remember exactly. This was a pretty much failed effort by Nikon to get into the consumer photographic market. I would recommend against much of an outlay for this camera and lens combination. Star-d is a very unimpressive lens. Save your money for a Nikon Fm or Fe. Fred

Fred is correct Linda
Nikon seemed to have simply loaned their name to someone who made really really junky low end cameras. The EM was the epitome of this. I know for certain - I repaired cameras for many years. I've seen the inside of the EM's and it was ugly.
As for value - I'm really not kidding when I say it's worth no more than about $35 dollars - with the lens.
Fred said it best - wait for an FE or FM (better yet and FM2) to show up. These are extremely fine cameras (I prefer the FM/FM2 though).
