Evening gang.
Just returned from watching 'Gladiator'. Thoroughly enjoyed it, even though the storyline was a bit lame. I thought they got the 'gore level' just about right - realistic without being unecessarily horrific, which it could have been.
Anyway, not much happening on the transfer front - at least for us. I'm getting a bit worried - we must make some changes to broaden out the squad, provide better cover in key positions, and increase the 'creativity quotient'. If not, I can see another season of toil ahead. Hopefully the pace will pick up when BR gets back next week.
Anyone watching the England game tomorrow? With any expectancy?

I'm at work, so will be watching it, but am not to bothered about it. It will just be nice to see England win by a few goals...5-0, 6-0 what do you think.

I'm uncertain as to what KK will do. He could rest his key players - like AS, Becks, Scholes and Adams - and use it as work out for the stiffs. Alternatively, given the reltively weak opposition, he could field his full strength team and hope it becomes a confidence builder - which it probably would be.
Fearing fatigue and injuries, I would certainly prefer the former approach, in which case it might only be 2-0 or 3-0.

The team is posted somewhere else on this board, (I can't remember the thread) and Al is apparently in from the start. However, I was invited to Wembley on Wednesday night, and after the game, we were talking in the tunnel and the suggestion was that Al would be iun Valletta but wouldn't play any part, so as to make sure he doesn't get injured and that the Munchkin would start, partner Pauline in the first half and then Heskey in the second, with Owen possibly replacing the Munchkin for the last twenty minutes.

I have also put this on another thread, but during the conversation I refered to the Munchkin as Phillips walked past and he swung round and glared at me......its good to see he recognises his nickname!

Perhaps the Munchkin is a lurker Ken! You never know.
I'll be very disappointed with KK if he plays AS tomorrow. It will prove precisely NOTHING, takes entirely unecessary risks with the fitness of his key player ahead of a major tourament, and if he can't see for himself that Al is a tired man then he's bloody blind to boot.

Evening folks just back from the pub or pubs :o) Oh my head I'll never drink again!! (me in a few hours) But at the moment I fell no pain!! ;o)

That's exactly why I put so much store by the information I heard, but then KK has supposedly named him in the starting line up.

I suppose it could be a way to 'pack out' the crowd a bit and then take him off at half time, but its a hell of a bloody risk if you ask me, and if the name of England itself can not get the crowds in at a place like Malta then we are in a bad way.....I don't know what they charge for tickets over there, but you can bet that most of the crowd will be English holiday makers....and of course people like Francis, who owns the Little Waster pub in Qwra....a B&W geordie Shrine in the sunshine, named after the late great Bobby Thompson himself.

ITK,
Your point is beautifully illustrated in The Journal this morning with a photo of Big Al signing autographs in Malta surrounded by blerks in B&W tops!
I've got lots of personal experience myself around the World of the truism from that early 60's song - by the Barry Sisters, I think - that "wherever you go your sure to find a Geordie"!

Glad you enjoyed Gladiator Clarky!

I too think that Big Al should be rested for this match - don`t think he needs to prove any point. However, maybe KK does need to find out what striker combinations work best. I assume he won`t play the whole game anyway. I`m afraid I`ll be going against the grain here, so feel free to beat me with a big stick, but I would be just as happy to see Phillips partnering Shearer, as Owen, Heskey, whoever. If it worked out to be a winning combination, I for one would back it all the way.

Same applies to the ManU players. I am a very happy bunny when I see, say Beckham and Shearer combining well, and enjoying playing with each other (I think I`m safe, don`t think Gav posts at the weekend)! OK - playing well together. So yes - I will have my England shirt on and will be enjoying the match. Can`t wait for Euro 2000 - I`d luv it, just luv it, if we won! I actually think we can, and of course, I shall be placing a small wager to back that up! (:o)
