Pipeline Fire Kills 5, Injures 1 in Southwestern Iran

TEHRAN (June 2) XINHUA - At least five people were killed and another was injured on Friday morning in an oil pipeline fire in Khorramabad, Iran's southwestern Lorestan province.

The Islamic Republic News Agency reported that five passengers on a Nissan car who were riding on a nearby road were burnt to death when their car caught fire. A fireman was sent to hospital due to severe burns.

The casualties occurred when an oil pipeline, 10 kilometers south of the provincial capital of Khorramabad caught fire at 0700 hours local time (02:30 GMT) Friday.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
