Freedom of Speech...Newcastle style

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

A contributor doesn't like what I post. A contributor searches the NET for statistics to back up the argument. A contributor's argument gets exposed as totall bollox. A contributor spits the dummy and gets the thread binned.

Fair play..at least I know where I stand.

I Must NOT make derogatory statements, however truthful, against NUFC, it's supporters and it's track record on the field.

I wondered why I couldn'r read the thread.

I thought it was just getting interesting last night.

What did you do for God's sake?????

Sorry, I could see a Munich argument coming on.

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2000

and if it was a freedom of speech problem, I'd have had an issue with you "so Douggie" thread which is still there for you to take up the subject ad nauseam.

Don't be so pompous, Lancy mate.

He does have a point....the dummy came straight out with that abuse crap.....

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2000

Gav, LR and I have exchanged e mail about my concern with that particular thread, all right? I have seen that discussion go down the road of Munich more times than I can count. I couldn't give a f...k what he says about me - jesus, he's said far worse here and via e mail.

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2000

Certainly does have a point. I'm kind of surprised tell you the truth. Reading between the lines, however, the 'personal abuse' was more about making public something that had been related in private, which isn't really very defencible, especially from someone who gets the same stuff pulled on him by Dancing Dave all the time.

Saying that, we've had that same bloody thread a thousand times and it's toe-curlingly tedious, so I can't say it's a thread I miss at all, although it has a lot more to do with football than most of the threads I've started in recent weeks.

Oi Lanky,

You have been round these parts long enough to know, you say something we don't like, we just tell you to fuck off....and you do the same to us....plain and simple......we don't hide behind taking threads off the board without a very good reason.

If, as Dougal has said, it was heading down the Munich line, then it was quite right to remove it.....we don't want that kind of unnecessary abusive shit here......

When you start doing that kind of thing, you end up with a board like the RTG, and we don't want that........do we?

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2000

Dougal, as usual I've got no idea what you're on about.....you implied that there was some abuse in that thread and as far as I could see there most certainly wasn't! certainly nothing that warranted that "I'm gonna tell Duncan" comment....

Softie, 100% agree with you mate....

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2000

As I say, Softie, LR and I have discussed question offline. Wasn't about public disclosures (although I didn't read his latter comments) but about something else.

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2000

Dunno what I did Pilgrim...but every now and then I have a major fall- out with one of you lot. It's been a while since me and Douggie went at it.....not since I called her Zoe Ball actually :-)

The thing is, although all of of the people I have met on here are decent folk...yer still the "opposition"...... :-)

:-)

Gav, ITK, Softie, LR, Pilgrim - LR and I have discussed wherein lay the "abuse" etc. It's far too private to go into here. Can that be an end of it, PLEASE? Regarding telling Duncan, I genuinely felt that things were getting quite nasty. Again, I've spoken to LR, and he sees where I got this impression.

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2000

It's nothing to me....I was just sticking up for LR...

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2000

One thing I hate about the BBS is/are (?) the threads like this one which are all written in 'code' referring to things that most of us just can't follow. To delete a thread and then start a thread discussing why the last thread was deleted without explaining why is kinda irritating.

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2000

ITK..no we do not mate :-)

Douggie sensed something was going on with Munich but in reality Jonno just made a valid and probably very true point. Dougiie (bless her) was slightly mistaken in her views of how the thread was gonna turn out on th e back of Jonno's comment. I have the same view as Jonno on what is the main reason for our mass popularity.

I did however pull ONE deffo naughty but I was flying at the time :-) I have apologised the the Hound from The Roundabout via e-mail.

And errr Softus....NEVER say that again :-)

Just evening up the 'UNITED' bollocks Lancy! :-)

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2000

Right.

*I* pulled that thread coz it was getting personal. I don't give a flying fuck about what any of us says about each other's football team, but I don't like stuff getting personal and unpleasant. That was my view of the way that thread was turning and as moderator it's my prerogative to remove stuff.

LR, feel free to post stats about track records, the supporters at large, and anything else you can think of anti-toon; as far as I'm concerned it gives interesting debate. I'm sure we'll continue to do the same about your boys.

However, the minute it gets personal then I'll pull it.

LR, note that I'm not specifically aiming any of this at you; this comment is aimed at *everyone* on this BBS, regardless of who you support.

Admin hat off!

Ahh!!! you know I'm rattled when I continue with the "United" thing eh :-)

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2000

Nah mate, you know I'm rattled when you use the "United" ploy; like an Exocet every time WhhheeeeeeeeeBOOM! :-)

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2000

As a bit of a "Lurker" it's nice to see a return to the communicata type threads. Now people, get down to some serious slagging off.

See this as a turning point.
