Media Player cannot read DAT file

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I noticed that video-cd files (.dat files) produced by WinOnCD 3.7 PE are sometimes could not be played back by Windows Media Player (mine is ver 6.4.07). I wonder if it is because the bad MPEG files or the burning software. Should I decrease speed (4x to 2x) during burning process?

Any suggestion would be gladly welcomed.

I don't really have a solution, but I've had problems with Media Player playing discs that I've created with both Linux VCDtools and Nero. I'm not sure what the problem is, but it seems to be very picky with what it plays. On the other hand, programs like Xing mpeg and MpegTV have played every disc I've thrown at em. Unless using Media Player is a neccessity for some reason I'd reccomend trying out another player.
