Nikon 990 freezing up

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Anybody have any problems with the 990 freezing up (won't respond to any controls and won't turn off)? Needed to open battery compartment to get it to reset. Only happened once so far. Is 1.0 the latest version of the firmware?

I have had a 990 for about 2 weeks now and had a similar situation just today (first time)...but I pressed the zoom control buttons and the unit returned to full function. Odd...but probably an oddity of specific software configuration. What you describe is similar to a full OS failure on a computer (crash!). The 990 is a dedicated computer...just be thankful its not running Windows!

This is a common occurance with the 950, esepcially when downloading directly from camera to computer. Opening the battery compartment is the fix. I think you just have to learn to live with it.

It may be a digital camera thing in general. It happened once to my new 3030 in front of an experienced Kodak digital camera user (and software engineer) who reacted to as though it were a common occurrance. He made a comment about there always being some sort of firmware imperfection.
